Been a while since I saw a mention of Goyband...

SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT: Dancer and choreographer Cris Judd has definitely been expanding his resume of late -- not only as a judge on Lifetime's "Your Mama Don't Dance" dance competition show but also in the acting realm. For one thing, he's completed "Goyband," an indie film "I shot last year. It's about an aging pop star in a boy band, with Adam Pascal from 'Rent.' He's an aging boy-bander, kind of still stuck in the '90s, who gets booked to do a show at this Orthodox Jewish retreat/casino and ends up falling in love with a girl there who is there to be married. I play a converted Orthodox Jewish gay guy who is really flamboyant. It's a lot of fun." The film, also starring Amy Davidson, Natasha Lyonne and Tovah Feldshuh, is awaiting distribution.

Thanks for posting that, Tink.

I'm sorry to see this thread doesn't have the continuous attention it used to, but it's not really surprising. Adam is no longer in NYC where Broadway is, and his career doesn't have the big and fascinating stuff going on now that it had when the first of these threads was started. At that time he had returned to Aida after a successful appearance in Cabaret and only a short time later was cast in the movie of Rent. It was all pretty fast-moving and exciting, especially the year between the initial announcement to when it opened. A huge amount of excited posts poured in here and lots of other places.

Now he's mostly doing performances with Larry, and though he's expressed a lot of satisfaction with that, I wonder how he really feels. The fact that he got too ill to do several dates recently could be just bad luck, but also the kind of thing that happens when someone isn't really happy with what he's doing. Of course he's always wanted to be a song perfomer first and foremost, and maybe he likes heading in that direction. I can't blame him for giving up on auditioning for TV shows, because since he's not good at it, there's no point in continuing indefinitely. TV requires above all a performer who can instantly jump into a role, and that's not Adam. He had some luck getting into a couple of independent movies, but unless they're released that won't do him a lot of good.

I also think that the elusiveness that was part of him for so long was a big advantage. Anyone posting here was free to imagine him in a variety of different ways, some of which were inevitably larger than life. Now that he's got his official sites and more connection to the public, that no longer really exists and the kind of fantasy world we had here doesn't seem to have a place on his official site.

Sorry to go on at length about this, but for several reasons I'm probably going to have to leave here soon, so I wanted to put down what's been in my head lately while I had the chance.

Hello all!! So some of you have mentioned that you'd like another blog. So here it is....
The new record "Blinding Light" is almost done. We are in the final stages of mixing, and I know you won"t be dissappointed. This really is the record I always wanted to make.
It will be ready to go by the end of April.
My wife is out of town, so its just me and the boys. It's pretty damn all-consuming, but brilliant!.
Heard some good new music. A band called "Black Tide". Totally early Motley Crue/Ratt, mixed in with a little Metallica and Iron Maiden. Best part is, They're all like 19 and 20. Whoo Hoo!!
And I have mentioned them before but Panic at the Disco, has a new CD. I love that band!! Thats really it. Larry and I will be back out on the road in April. Very Excited!
I hope you all have a nice easter(what ever that means).

I do like that he is making it more stream of consciousness like.

In my year or so he has always been involved in SOMETHING, so it never died for too long, but I don't think it is anything to bad. Once the album comes out, London Chess, tour dates, eventually rescheduled Feinsteins shows, and more RENT Tour info gets released, things would pick up.

I actually remember when I was newer and I saw the thread die to like page 3 I bumped and was told, I forget by who, that the thread did not have to be on the front page just to be there or something. I couldn't care less either way - this just made me think about that, lol.

I do hope that for whatever reasons you are leaving you will still keep in touch from time to time, Chloe (a.k.a. my wonderful wizard of Adam!)

About the thread, there can be a LOT of snarky-ness here, I have seen many posters run outa here by cruel comments. I think there are many lurkers who just won't risk an attack for making a comment. That's a part of the reason things are slower around here...
I just went tp APmusic.com and there is now a press section that is really fantastic. lots of great articles to click on...
if its been there awhile, I guess I just never saw it before.

I think it's new. I don't go to the site often, but I don't remember it being there the last time I did visit, which was probably a week or two ago. Just out of sheer boredom.

As for the thread being quiet lately, I honestly think the explanation is as simple as that... Adam isn't doing anything. What's there really to talk about? Like LePetiteFromage said, we can only rehash the old discussion topics so many times. There'll be new things. Soon we'll have a whole new album to discuss, and hopefully reports about the Chess concert to be excited about.

Anyway, Chloe, I hope everything is alright and that you'll keep in touch.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'm dealing with serious health issues right now, and also may spend some of the summer with a relative where I won't have good internet access. Aside from that, I'm just trying to reorient myself, because part of the reason I've spent so much time here is that it was a way of fighting off depression symptoms that had crept up on me from my then unknown illness. I'm dealing with a whole different frame of mind and situation, which might mean not being here much. Whatever happens, it's been wonderful having this place and you all to read and write to during the last three and a half years.

PS - I should add that I hope you're all right about Adam's career just being in a temporary slow time. The most encouraging thing I've seen was Alive in the World, in which his emotion and stage presence felt so raw and big. That show doesn't seem to be going anywhere, but I hope he'll soon have the chance to do another performance like that. Updated On: 3/24/08 at 09:53 AM

I definitely think the thread is slowing simply because there's not so much to talk about. I really don't think it has anything to do with cruelty. This thread has been what it is since the beginning, opinions haven't changed really. If people disagree they voice it, and that's nothing new.

Hope you feel better Chloe. Will you be back near the city by the end of the summer because I'm planning a trip to NYC that will be happening this year, my parents are actually pushing me to go this time.

I agree with CanadianSnowbird, the current slowness has nothing to do with snarkyness and "cruelty". January 2005, there were about 10 posters total in the Adam thread, all making snarky "cruel" comments at Adam's expense and we went through 5000 posts in 3 weeks. This was also a month after the movie came out. How much posting was going on this past summer? We made finished part 14 and made it halfway through part 15 in the span of a month. After those threads were lost, it took us five months before we could finish out part 14 again, because the Rent run was over and there was nothing new to talk about. I think your claims come from your own agenda instead of any realistic and provable basis.

After the RENT run, there were several concerts, new songs, the Backyardigans, the website etc. and lots of subjects to discuss. No, orange, I stand by my statement of snarkiness being A cause of things slowing down here. you are good with numbers though, I just disagree with you.

I really appreciate all your concern, thoughts, and prayers, but please don't feel like you can't talk about anything else. A little distraction can be enjoyable for me, and after all this is Adam's thread, not mine.
