I really can't speculate on how much Adam made working on the Backyardigans, but I imagine he did get paid something as well as profits from the cd etc. I don't think that was something that he did just to make money. He said his kids love that show, I'm sure working on something for children, something his own kids could enjoy, was a great motivator. He recently appeared at an AIDS charity event in LA, I don't think he got paid for that. None of us know really how he makes his money, what he gets paid or what all his projects are, its all just speculations.

It's not "speculations" when every project has been posted about here. What he gets paid for each concert has been posted here. It's also not speculation that he said he's doing Rent for the money; he's said that in multiple interviews.

As for your speculations about his income over the past 3 months:

Backyardigans was done pre-strike. It had to be, Nick Jr. writers were on strike too. It just happened to air during the strike. Unless Adam crossed picket lines to record it during the strike, in which case I'd lose the last shred of respect I have for him, so I would hope it was before the strike.

And profits from what CD? Model Prisoner and Civilian? Last I heard (Billboard Girl checked the official released numbers), Adam had sold about 20,000 CDs total in 10 years. Since November, he's probably sold a handful at least, a few dozen at most.


Perhaps he's just given up on really going after what he wants, since it didn't work out, and is just doing it to pass time or make money. If that is the case, then it really is sad.

My feelings exactly. Unfortunately, evidence of late suggests it is the case.

Craww, I didn't seen anyone questioning his motives for doing The Backyardigans; that was presented in defense for him indisputably doing Rent for the money. Not sure how his motives regarding one song on one episode children's show makes up for prostituting Rent.

LePetiteFromage, I thought the same thing when The Backyardigans was first announced. Daphne Rubin-Vega hasn't been consistently employed of late; just a few concerts here and there, but I hear her literally every time I turn on the TV. She's probably made more money off recording one thirty-second Clairol commercial than Adam did all last summer in Rent. If he's going to do a job just for the money, why doesn't he have the sense to pick something more lucrative than musical theatre?

Its interesting you say that when his (and Anthony's) return to RENT meant more to you than anyone else because you are such a long time fan who sang RENT songs to the top of your lungs in middle school, yada yada yada...what is it?

You know what, I'm not going to bother. If you're going to scrounge up old arguments to divert the conversation into petty personal attacks to cover up the fact that there IS no acceptable defense for the downfall of Adam's career, you're on your own. But I will challenge you to find a single post where I said Adam in Rent meant more to ME than ANYONE.

I liked Adam. His actions lately has managed to erode the positive aspects of his appeal for me. I will always be a fan of his performances, but if he doesn't care about his career anymore, why should I?

I completely agree with skittles. I feel that at his age (yes, he's a mature adult...he's no longer a kid anymore) he needs to take action and really try to carve out some sort of career. And by career I don't mean touring college campuses with repeats of Civilian and RENT songs.

If he fancies himself an actor then he needs to get his butt in gear and AUDITION AUDITION AUDITION. He's done a total of 3 broadway shows, and a handful of movies? And he wants make it in the industry? Hey, I'm no expert but to me if I were looking soley on a person's resume to hire he'd be on the bottom of my list.

Basically what I'm saying from my rather b!tchy rant is we as fans have the right to agree/disagree with our admir-...(y?). You can't shove blind admiration down a persons throat, that's not healthy. I feel that the people on this thread who do critic his motives are probably the best fans he has out his rather crazy fan-base.

Oh yeah Emcee, I understand what you meant (I just put a little more bluntly then actually elaborating on it like you did ). But what LePetiteFromage brought was interesting too, and just how this whole tour thing is still blowing my mind.
