Remember the Charlie Rose Rent show that surfaced a while back? Aside from the godawful outfit, I love how he looked on that.

Very fresh-faced! And that turtleneck!
Fresh-faced is a good description. Sometimes his face looked rather angular at that age, but on that show he was gorgeous.

I didn't know that it was possible to play Roger as poorly as I just saw Kyle Post play him. I really didn't. I even wanted to like him, because I didn't want to get myself angry about Tim's absence.
You know, I didn't even find myself missing Adam in particular (after all, I never saw the guy on stage). I missed Tim, if anyone. But really, I was just hoping that someone could kick the guy in the balls or SOMETHING to inspire a tiny little bit of something called passion in this kid.
UGH. I want my money back.
Sorry you had a bad experience, Lexi. Hopefully next time, it'll be better.
Cybele updated her blog on Monday w/ a gluten-free, egg-free, and allergy-free French Toast recipe that sounds yummy.
I remember than Adam video. It's from Google Video. I don't know if it's still free to watch. He only had one hand that had black nail polish on. That outfit...I won't even go there
I really like that picture of him, very handsome! But the turtleneck is not for him...
*Edit...in a picture mood as well...*
By the by, I found the Charlie Rose video on Google, very interesting if you guys check it out.
I'm so glad that I've never seen anyone in Rent who was absolutely dreadful. There have been a few "meh" people, but no one really awful.

Picture posting moods. My favorite part about lurking on this thread.
The Charlie Rose look terrifies me in ways indescribable.
this terrifies me in ways more definable.

I'm really interested to hear about how tonight's gig went, or even this string of shows in general. I wonder if he's added anything new to the set list.
There's an article online about tomorrow's show. It's pretty general, but it also talks about returning to Broadway in something more traditional.
Suffolk Article
Cool article, thanks for posting! Heee, Adam has funny shoes in Craww's pic...that entertains me...heeee...WOW...I need to go to bed, must prepare for Speech meet tomorrow; au revoir!
I know this comment is exactly in the vein of things I had vowed not to say anymore, but I have to wonder what he means when he says he might return in something more traditional. I want him back on Broadway as badly as the rest of you, and I know he's made many bold career moves and pulled off the Emcee beautifully, but logically, how many traditional roles would he really fit well into? I'd love a surprise and I know Adam is capable of shocking us, but what would work in that realm seems like it has it limitations. There are so many times where I want to be like "Adam, I applaud your confidence, but where's your common sense?" I just sort of wonder if he doesn't know what makes sense and what doesn't. His voice just may not mesh with a lot of traditional material, and there's danger in overconfidence, if he thinks he can realistically do what... he may not be able to.
Anyway, I'm curious to hear about tonight's gig, as well. And really, really excited to see him in a few weeks. I hope there's a new song or two in the set!
I was at the Tower gig that that photo is from, brina. His hair was... not its best!
That's the picture from the Rolling Stone article. So Craww, I can see that one is a bit strange, but what's terrifying about the Charlie Rose picture? (I should mention that I have a much higher tolerance for bad clothes than most people around here.)
ETA: Emcee, maybe he simply means that he's open to the idea of doing a wider range of stuff on Broadway now, rather than just wanting to do new material.

Ooh, maybe. I interpreted it to mean stuff that's outside of the "rock musical" genre, and a bit more traditional in the classical sense. And, I mean, he is so not going to fit into a Sondheim or R&H show, or something stylistically similar too easily.

I think his voice is capable of quite a bit. I just think he needs very tight direction for Broadway shows.
Chloe, I actually quite like the RS picture. Probably because I spent so long scanning it and, and the lack of socks amuses me. As for the Charlie Rose picture? I...can't answer that question here, I respect the limits implied by posting on a Love thread.
Since I remember him talking about wanting to do new stuff at one point, that was the first thing I thought of. Whatever, I'm glad he's still interested in coming back to Broadway.
ETA: I seem to be one beat behind everyone tonight. I like the RS picture too, but it probably looks less like him (or what I think of him looking like) than any other. Adam has shown a disinclination for footwear in general over the years.

I actually have to agree about his voice, and I don't think "more traditional" necessarily means Sondheim, either - maybe he just meant "more traditional" than something like Rent. For example, Chess is a lot more traditional than Rent, but it's still not exactly R&H or Sondheim. It's all very vague, though.
I love the Rolling Stones picture. There's one from that batch with Daphne and Adam that I've never quite been able to get a hold of, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who found the no socks interesting!
I think his voice is capable of an incredible amount, and for someone who is so distinctly "rock," very, very versatile. But there are a lot of things I can't imagine him sounding too great on, or that I can imagine his vocal type being "right" for. Saying that isn't the same as saying I think he lacks capability. It's not that he "can't" do it, but that it would sound odd, and in taking on a role, it's not a matter of what he's able to sing, but what works. He expressed interest a while back in doing Chicago -- pretty traditional score, but one that I think has stylistic wiggle room. I'd actually really like to see him try his hand at Billy. Or, as Lexi said, Chess -- more traditional than something like Rent or Aida, and he sang it beautifully. But anyway, that's why I said I wonder what he means by "more traditional." You all know I'd love to see him back.

I didn't really think you meant that he lacked capability. I just think it's clear there are some things he'd be badly suited for, and some things he could do with ease, and then there's the stuff in the middle that relies heavily on direction. Just like every performer.
I can see why Adam seems a special case, though.

Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. However, I don't really know how much of the middle ground I think relies too heavily on direction. The natural sound of his voice is just very non-traditional. Direction in terms of stylistic inflection and interpretation can really only mold so much. Adam is hardly a one-trick performer, vocally, but at the end of the day, he's still going to have that rock quality to his voice. He's going to be suited for it or he's not; whatever a director can do won't change enough in that sense, IMO.
I just saw a post on Adam's myspace from someone who saw the Duke show, so at least we know it took place. No details though.
Adam didn't do too badly with Cliff's Cabaret material, but he wasn't really singing full out for that. He can sound a bit more traditional when he sings softly.

Maybe direction isn't the right word. But, there's a clear difference listening to him in something like Chess or listening to him in something like Aida. The rocker voice is more evident in the latter, though the material doesn't necessarily demand that.
Heh, reading the last page of this thread makes me feel pretty badly for Adam! We don't think that Hollywood is the path for him, that his solo music career isn't going to take him places, and that he's badly suited for most roles on Broadway. So... if that's the case, what would we be happy with? I just think that it's a little too easy to say, "Bad career move" or, "He should be doing this." At this point, it seems almost as though he's damned with us if he does, damned if he doesn't.
