Posted: 2/10/07 at 12:53amHellooooooo girls. I'm way too tired to write any sort of recap right now, although I don't even know if one is necessary considering he didn't do anything that we haven't already heard about! I will say that I think my toes will be forever frozen from this night, although it was worth it.

I'm so cold and hungry, I'll write more detail in the morning if you all want it. Show was great, I really like the new song. Adam is getting snarkier on stage. I like it. This audience was unbelievable in the ridiculous department. He sounded *amazing* tonight. His voice is so clear and powerful.
ETA -- wow, what a poorly written post. Whatever, I'm tired; my writing skills are taking the night off 'cause I have a writing assignment to take care of tomorrow.

You sounded fine! Anyway, I'm literally falling asleep, but I'll leave everyone with this:
Adam and my arm.
ETA: Just re-reading this thread, I wanted to add that by "crazy groupies," MotorTink means people who are actually insane and delusional. Not just screamy fans, and definitely not anyone here! There are the crazy teenagers, and then there are a very select few people who truly scare me and basically harass Adam and/or his crew.

I was there tonight; but I'm sad because he came out and I left after 10 minutes after waiting outside in the cold. I had a cold, and I couldn't take it anymore.
Props to all of you who had the stamina.
I was cringing in embarassment at some of the comments in the crown. Especially:
"We want Roger!"
Thank God Adam said "Roger's not real darling," because that's exactly what I was thinking.

Heee, those are amazing quotes
.
I love that picture Siamese, he looks rather chilly willy but happy at the same time. I can't wait to hear how the whole concert went and to see anymore pictures! Au revoir till the afternoon, a Speech meet is calling my name.

I am glad you all had fun, and that picture is cute its like the biggest smile ever! I can't wait to hear more details, he is getting really "snarky" on stage, although I am not sure if I like it. Its funny but part of me feels bad for the recipients of the snark!
Oh and I know what mototink meant I just like to joke about it!
Ill be back tonight, what did he have to say at the stage door?

Glad to hear it was so much fun. I'm amazed you lasted that long at the stagedoor - I can only imagine what sort of icicle I would have turned into.
Great picture, Lexi. He does look very smiley. And I'm glad to see the earrings are still present.
Some of the audience members sound awful - people are still asking him to have their babies? And I was rolling my eyes at the girl who asked him to light her candle.

I slept with a heating pad on my feet last night because I couldn't get them warm enough, lol!!
Lexi is right. There were people who were downright scary ( and REAALLLLLY annoying). I worked in NASCAR and was close to a lot of drivers, and I can honestly say that from what I've seen and stories I've been told, Adam's crazies are scarier than anyone I met on the racing circuit! That is saying a lot.
Ariella - Someone screamed that out at some point last night also, but he didn't respond to it.

I'm sure most of you know the setlist by now, so I'll just focus on the general experience. The theater was crawling with lots of young teenagers, and surprisingly enough, a lot of really young kids. There are a few funny stories about these kids and their parents, but those are Jenna's to tell. Anyway, my theory is that some of these parents have season tickets to this theater (I noticed they were putting on a family-friendly Narnia show in a few weeks) and bring their families to pretty much anything that comes to town.
Vocally, Adam sounded absolutely great - his voice was very clear-sounding and soared all night. I thought he would have benefited from them turning up his microphone a bit; he could definitely be heard well, but I didn't feel like his voice filled the theater like it could have. The show was completely sold out, save for maybe a few seats in the balcony section (not even sure if those were for sale, though). He wore that long-sleeve black shirt with a pattern (it sparkles in person!) and tight jeans. Yes, Emcee and I noticed.
He started with Beautiful Song and then went into See Me Shining, after doing his usual "how I met Larry" story. Said that he wanted to write a song for his wife for years and Larry helped him make it so it wasn't "cheesy." He also went on this slight tangent about how "heterosexual sex, homosexual sex, any sex" in steam rooms is awful... way to beg the question if you've had gay sex in a steam room at some point, Adam, but okay. Considering how flamboyant he acted at certain points during the show, I wouldn't be too surprised, but moving on...
Maybe This Time and Maria followed, with him telling the stories about how he truly enjoyed his work with Cabaret ("I got to stand in this beautiful pool of blue light...") and talking about his dislike of West Side Story (and mentioned that caused some anger in one particular audience member in the fall).
He then played A Single Drop of You and The World Cannot Wait. They've apparently added bass to the latter, which sounded great. When he announced the title of The World Cannot Wait, someone shouted "for what?" which caused everyone, including Adam, to chuckle a bit. Speaking of the crowd... they were certainly, uh, unique. I wouldn't even say obnoxiously screamy; there were a lot of people there yelling "I love you!" constantly between every song. First, he joked around by saying, "okay, so who loves me more?", but he eventually playfully told everyone to shut up so he could talk. At some point, some girl said "I'll give you another child!", and he said something like, "Are you twelve?" He then said he has two kids and doesn't want more, because they're a pain in the ass.
When Larry was getting ready to play Love Will Always Come Back, there were a lot of "I love you" screams for him as well. Adam was like, "aw, he's blushing!", and Larry actually did have to take another drink of water before he started the song. At some point, someone said that she loved Larry more than Adam, to which Adam said, "Well, I love Larry more than I love you!" After the song, someone yelled "we want Roger!", and Adam kindly informed her that Roger wasn't exactly real.
They then played Just Like (As?) I Am, which Adam said is about finding someone to put up with your bullsh*t and finding someone to accept you the way you are - "would you want to be with you?" After that, he played Book of Endings, prefacing it with the story about how "less stable" fans thought they had some sort of friendship with him after seeing him in a show various times. He then introduced I'm With You, mentioning that his kids actually aren't a pain in the ass - "they're the best." Aw.
This Life (a new song) closed the set. I thought it was gorgeous musically - recordings don't really do it justice because Adam and Larry harmonize on the chorus, and it's hard to pick up on that on a video. Adam started the song a few steps away from the microphone and stepped closer to it by the end of the song. The chorus was hard to understand even live, but it included something like, "each time we walk hand in hand in this life, this is the song I'll be singing when I'm a part of you." I don't know if it's technically considered a part of This Life, but Larry then segued into Moonlight Sonata, and eventually they played Eclipse by Pink Floyd. The entire performance of This Life had an epic feel to it.
There wasn't a set Q&A or meet and greet after the show, and the theater people eventually kicked us out of the theater and even the lobby. Honestly, it was absolutely freezing outside - I didn't mind too much because I was there with friends, but I literally could not feel my toes after a few minutes. As a woman was locking up the theater, I asked her if Adam was still there ("you're waiting in vain," - "no, you're lying" - "okay, he's inside changing"), and she finally told me where the stagedoor was. We headed over there after realizing that we'd be waiting on the wrong side of the building for about an hour. I talked to the stagedoor attendant for a bit saying that it wouldn't kill him to sign autographs for the small crowd that was there (of course, as I said it, quite a few more people arrived), to which the attendant replied, "would you want to deal with this every night?" No, I wouldn't, but I also would never choose to be an entertainer. At any rate, Adam eventually came out and was very sweet to everyone. He said that it was cold and if people could take pictures of him rather than with him that would be great but of course some people (Emcee and me included) managed to get pictures with him anyway. He FINALLY signed our Chess posters, so we can stop carrying those everywhere.
I don't think there was a lot of interesting stagedoor conversation, mainly because he was trying to sign autographs for as many people as possible and was distracted. Someone said something like, "I've noticed many of your roles require cross-dressing, like the Emcee in Cabaret, and you mentioned that you wanted to be in Hedwig. Do you have a little secret you want to share with us?" I personally don't think that having one role that required cross-dressing really qualifies as "many roles," but okay. Anyway, Adam seemed fine with the question... I don't remember exactly what he said (does anyone else?), but I do remember him seeming really firm in saying that he doesn't have a "little secret." Someone asked him what shows he'd come back to Broadway for (out of the shows that are currently playing), and he said Chicago. I can't imagine they'd exactly turn him down for the role of Billy Flynn if he were to approach them asking for it, but I also wonder if he'd really uproot his entire family again. Perhaps he'd do a limited engagement sometime in the future. When he was singing our Chess posters, he mentioned really enthusiastically that he'd definitely come back to Broadway to be in Chess, should it ever be revived. He said he loved it and had a lot of fun in the concert.
If anyone has any questions, let me know. Most of my pictures didn't turn out because my flash isn't very strong and I wasn't sitting extremely close to the stage, but I'll try to post some soon anyway.

Also - and yes I'm replying instead of editing, because this is important - if the 40/50ish woman who goes to every single show with her daughter is reading this - STOP YOUR ANTICS. They're annoying, bizarre, and I don't think Adam appreciates it. She goes to every show and tells the staff that she "knows" him or is "related" to him in order to get access backstage. I think she was thrown out of his dressing room at the Queens show. After the show last night, she was walking around the stage, sitting on the piano bench, trying to look like a queen bee of some sort. The saddest part of it all is that her husband (I assume, could be a boyfriend) escorts her to all of this and personally picks her up at the door after the show. She left some Valentine's Day gift for Adam on the stage at the end of the show. I'm scared to know what was in the red bag.
Seriously, there are two fans I know of that are actually delusional and crazy, and she's one of them. Just. stop.

I thought he pretty much laughed off the question, like hmmm, that's interesting. and then she said do you have a little secret, he started like blushing and was like ummm, no and started talking about taking pictures again. I could be wrong, but I don't think he actually gave the question much merit.
Great Review!!! He did sound really good vocally. He seemed to have much more of the rock edge sound back than the serious note hitting phantom of the opera sound (I really don't know how to explain it).
I still love the James Barbour line in the beginning of Book of Endings.

Maybe that was it. I just remember him saying, "No, I don't, actually," and sounding slightly taken aback by the question (I would be too!).
I forgot about that line! He said something like, "People start assuming that your interaction with them after the show is actually a meaningful relationship," to which the audience started giggling. He said something like, "I don't get what's so funny" (he sounded legitimately confused) but then finally said, "Oh, you're thinking of James Barbour, aren't you?"
Another funny moment was when a man behind me yelled out, "YOU HAVE STAR QUALITY!" Adam was like, "Man, now we're getting specific! What's it going to be next - you tweezed your eyebrows too much?" (again with the gay vibe!)

yeah, that comment completely caught me off guard, and I loved it. I don't think 75% of the audience caught on, but it's all good.
I really wished he didn't get cut off by a fan when he was talking about what shows he'd come back to do. He was about to say another one I think after Chicago, but some fan was like take a picture with me....blah! It made me so happy when you ladies asked him about Chess and he said he would do it!

lol at the James Barbour comment.
I think Lexi got everything covered.
It made me sad when the woman who introduced him asked how many people had seen Adam in Cabaret and like... four people raised their hands.

I'm sorry, I totally came out of last night's show thinking that he's AT LEAST experimented in the past. Maybe this has something to do with taking the train back with a girl who seemed convinced he's gay (but was also enraged that he apparently stared at her sister's breasts, so go figure), but some of his actions were so flamboyant. Ahhh.
And I totally realize this isn't something that I should even say on a board he's reading, but COME ON. He begs for it.

Posted: 2/10/07 at 11:06amHonestly, I don't know if he just makes those jokes because he's playing into the stereotype for fun, or what. I mean, exactly what you said - he begs for it - but maybe sort of poking fun at the assumption that everyone on Broadway is gay. Beats me.

well, emcee, I also thought it was quite funny at how many screamed that they saw him in RENT, which most of them would've been like 5 at the time.
lexi - i can see where you are coming from, but I don't think so.

Oh, I'm positive that some of the jokes are in that vein - like when he starts intentionally talking with a lisp to poke fn at his audience (didn't happen last night, heh), and he acted absolutely nothing like that when I was on the Goyband set. I'm sure part of it is an act... but all of it? Totally up in the air, and I think he wants it that way.
And for the record, before some angry fan starts yelling at me on here, I'm totally not implying that he's having gay affairs, because I know... pretty much for a fact that he's not.

Heh, that too. Of course, the movie soooo counts.
I love that he loves Cabaret so much. Some day, I will tell him how much the show meant to me, when I don't risk being cut off by a 12 year old with a Rent bible.

for some reason I thought that said a 12 year old with RENT rabies.....I need more caffeine! My rent bible hasn't left the house since I got it. It's too damn heavy to lug around all the time.
I got a *coughvideocough* of his performance of Cabaret, and really need to watch it. I'm so upset I was on my broadway strike out when he was in it. I have absolutely fallen in love with the whole story, and I think he would've been great in it.

Haha, the last one is... flattering.
btw, I love the hair.
Cabaret was the first show I fell for after Aida, and I fell for it damned hard. The experience was totally different from Aida because Cabaret has so many layers to delve into, etc.
