I'm a fan from the movie, but I couldn't even bring myself to "moo" at the show.
I don't think it's the screaming that would bother me but more of what they're screaming. Like "I want to have your love child" crap, that would bother me.
CS - Wow...that's fabulous.
Chloe - I guess my problem with these shrill, teenybopper fans is that it seems like they make up the majority of the crowd at many of Adam's concerts. And though, of course, I want his concerts to do well, the fact that the audience is overwhelmed by these types tends to give Adam a skewed snapshot of his fanbase.
Then again, I know he's not a stupid man, and he must know that there are those of us that are more mature and appreciate him not only because RENT, but also for his own music. However, I'm afraid that with the massive of influx of these new "fans," us old ones might get lost in the mix.
Some things that the newer fans do is kinda scary, like the writing on the foreheads thing..
Another thing I dont like abut the whole teenybopper Adam fan thing, is that if you saw me at one of his concerts, I'd probably look like one of those, but I actually do love HIS music, and know that he wasnt just "Roger from Rent". Thats why I try to talk to people when they say they love Rent, to see if they actually know the actors' names or anything about the show not just the movie.
Dancin - I totally understand. I know that there are a lot of younger fans that are completely mature, enjoy Adam's solo work, and can have a coherent conversation about his career, and I too hate that some of you are categorized with the teenyboppers. Not only do you not deserve such a derisive title, but I also know of many older fans who act just like those teenyboppers.
You're right. It's far too easy to generalize. Loads of homework and pulled muscles tend to make me more cynical than usual... I sincerely hope Adam knows there's far more scope to his fanbase than what's screamed into his ears at concerts. Oh well. Goodnight, everyone.
Ariella - Definitely. That's why, even though I make comments about the teenyboppers some times, I'm always keeping in mind fans like Dancin. :) And I understand the homework and sore muscles, I feel the same way (Russian History and Yoga, OY!).
Good night, Ariella.
Adam's myspace is approaching 100,000 views and 12,000 friends. I wonder how many of his albums have sold since the movie came out. We need Billboard Girl to get on this I guess.
Chloe - I'm fairly new to this thread, so please excuse my ignorance. Is BG a whiz when it comes to Adam stats?
She calls herself Billboard Girl because of her fascination with the music business and album charts. I remember her coming up with some sales figures in the past.
Chloe - Aha. Thanks. :)
Sure - well I think I'll go to bed too. Good night -
Goodness, I really don't want to come off as a teeny-bopper-rent-fan. I really liked the movie, and as most of you know, his role in Aida, but I really do think he has passion in all that he does and THAT is what really draws me to him.
Im not going to watch his every move and place myself in pictures with him, but I like to know what he has going on his life and see what new things he's taking on.
Sillyism - You aren't. :)
No worries. Everyone here seems to be mature and respectful fans, and no one's come off as a "Book of Endings"-esque fan.
Oy vey. It's slightly awkward when your grandpa walks into the room and asks what you're doing and you are forced to enter into an explanation of the Offical Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eleven. My grandparents are visiting for a week, so this is bound to be interesting.
The same thing happened to me Ariella when I was on vacation this past summer. It was surprising actually because my grandma seemed to know more about message boards in general than my mom does
I'm trying to add a clip of Adam performing at The Last Ten Years concert, but does ANYONE have any idea in what year this concert took place?
This is gonna be a long evening. My grandpa's a pastor, and currently he's sitting at the piano plunking out hymns. I'll have the Battle Hymn of the Republic stuck in my head all day.
I'm afraid I don't know about the 10 Years Concert. Anyone else?
The Last Ten Years: The Music of Jason Robert Brown - April 15, 2002
Hope that helps, Connie2.
GJ - Thanks. :) And you can call me Connie. *g*
You're welcome, Connie. My name is Rachael, and you can call me that if you want.
Ariella, what denomination is your grandfather in? (Going by Prairie Home Companion it would have to be Lutheran.) I had an uncle who was a Southern Baptist minister.
Rachel - Cool. :)
Chloe - What do you think? Would it be too terrible to post the video from The Last Ten Years concert? I'm not too sure whether it was an open thing that allowed video or not.
I guess I'll let you to shorten it to Rach (like most people do), so the extra "a" doesn't confuse you. :-P
And hi, Chloe.
Rachael - I apologize. :) I've known both Rachel's and Rachael's so I sometimes tend to spell one the other way.
No need to apologize, it's been spelled wrong my entire life. I'm used to it, heh.
I have the clip from The Last Ten Years, it's cute. I just don't remember where I got it... hmm. I'll blame that on the cold medicine I've been on. :-/ Well, anyways, Adam needs to do more JRB songs.
