Once again please excuse my spelling, I know there are some errors here
I have always had a suspision that the Civilian that we have now isnt the original CD that was intended to follow Model Prisoner. Just because it took so long. And because all the songs that he sang at the shows like Mesmerized, Hiding her Eyes from Me, and Apology he said were going to be on the "new" record(i think).
He always said to that a new record was in the works, then 9/11 happened, the record took forever to come out and when it did he said that alot of the songs were in response to 9/11.
So with all of my Blues Clues Sleuth skills I think that there is almost 12 songs laying around on the cutting room floor!
(btw, don't you love that he still says record?)

Oh, okay, I see. Does that mean that I get to blame Sh-K-Boom for overproducing Civilian?
That makes sense, mesmerized, although I don't know if there are necessarily 12 missing songs. I suppose the logical thing he could have done was add some of those songs to Civilian anyway, although maybe he felt they didn't have a place on it.
Yes blame Sh-K-Boom.
Mesmerized not have a place? How dare you...hehe
If we could only be inside that mans brain for one day.
Maybe 9/11 made some of those songs feel irrelevant to him. He talks about how affected he was so often that I think he must have just needed to start over.

I really think Civilian would have sounded so much better with more of a stripped down sound. Not an acoustic sound, but just less background noise, especially less noise overpowering the vocals. Even I'm With You sounds overproduced to me in comparison to what I heard live, which was much better.
Yes Chloe I agree, that was my point. Why do I have such a hard time getting my point across in typing. I type for like a paragraph then someone sums it up in 6 words....
oy
Yeah I said OY, what?
The first time I heard I'm With You, it was just guitar and piano. And it was so gorgeous. Not that the recorded version isn't, but I always prefered it (and Beautiful Song) that way.
I'm assuming some of the floater songs made it onto Civilian. A lot of them are very clearly post-9/11, but some of them could have been written at any time, too.
I agree Lexi. When I heard some of the songs live, epsecially Beautiful Song I could hear more of the words since the song on the album had so many distractions, to me. Lots of crazy musical effects & stuff like that throw me off.

Yeah, the first time I heard it was on a clip of him performing it on The View. I was kind of disappointed with the album version, truth be told. (But we still love love love you, Adam!)

He said that was the exact reason he did the stripped down versions when he performed them for the public the first time. In retrospect, as much as I enjoy the CD and as much as some of the songs do benefit from having a bigger, more varied sound, I'm sort of like "... then why didn't you record them that way?"

Yeah, Adam, why DIDN'T you record them that way? I demand an answer via your MySpace blog by 8 PM tomorrow.
I like most of the production except for some of those computer effects, and I agree that the vocals could be mixed more up front. This was obviously what Adam wanted, though, since he coproduced the album. Maybe he just got carried away with all the stuff he was able to do. I also disagree about "I'm With You." I love the vocal harmonies on the CD version and always miss them in live performances.

Really, I wouldn't have felt more than a twinge of disappointment to find out that Adam wasn't going to sign last Saturday. Unfortunately, the issue evolved into a lot more than just him not signing autographs. Yes, some of us are obviously big fans, but I understand and accept the fact that he probably won't sign every single night for varying reasons. What bothered me was how his security and the theatre security handled the situation.
Wow, well I think that it is said when there will be a signing or Q&A it's just that in every city there are some people that are in the right place at the right time and get to meet him then everybody else wants the same. Understandably I might add.
I think (hope) that what happened with the misinformation at the last show was an exception not a rule and it had nothing to do with Adam not bieng "kind"
In my opinion anyway
nga, in Adam's defense, he is MORE than kind and gracious on the vast majority of occasions. It's extremely rare lately that he won't sign autographs and pose for pictures with every single last person who asks. In my personal experience, he has been more than kind, and displayed his apprecation much more than any actor should be "expected" to. Also, while I think sometimes the "needs to catch a flight" thing IS used as an excuse, more often than not, it's true. He and his family were moving to LA the day after Rent 10, and he did have like a 6 a.m. flight out, or something. Honestly, forget about the fans who didn't get to see him (this is coming from one who was very disappointed, yet), but he couldn't even go to the party with his friends and costars. Nobody was using it as an excuse Saturday night, either; he really was going home early in the morning. But, the bottom line to me is that... yeah, this is home base, but he signed and posed for pictures at three of the four shows, at least once hanging around later than security and the venue would have liked, and was unable to do it at one because of a flight so he could get home to his family. I'm sorry, but reality sometimes takes precedence over PR, and I don't blame what happened on Saturday on him in any way, shape or form; he is the farthest thing from unkind to his fans, and he only gets nicer every time I see him.

I think the fact of the matter is that he was probably tired, with his family, and didn't feel like signing autographs for the huge group of young fans. And honestly, I'm cool with that, even if that means he wasn't entirely kind in doing so... but then don't initiate some policy where a select few can go backstage while the others are sent to wait upstairs.
There are two things going on here, though; security and stuff lying and creating confusion, which is not Adam's fault, and then the simple fact that sometimes he does have flights to catch. He's got a career in the bicoastal industry. It happens; it's not a gesture of unkindness, but just a fact of life. An autogaph is not an inherent right you get just because you support him; no matter how many concerts you go to or how many CD's you buy. I mean, I own two and purchased three copies of Civilian; I don't get three autographs or to have Adam's babies in exchange.
There have been more and more instances where he seems to be going against the will of security, and more power to him for that; but if you're saying that catching flights is bad PR, well, that's not his security guard's doing when it's the honest truth.
Anyway, back to the music. I miss the harmonies in I'm With You, but not necessarily all the extra sound effects and instruments.
nga8, Adam wasn't the only person to not go to the after-party at Rent 10; Taye, Idina and Jesse, so don't place all the blame and negativity on Adam and his "bad PR". He was moving the next morning; he had way more of a legitimate excuse for not being there than the other cast members. I just think it's really petty and selfish to be annoyed that HE didn't show up, especially while not faulting any other cast members for the same behavior.
The event wasn't about you getting an autograph and a picture with Adam Pascal, it was about celebrating the 10th anniversary of Rent. Go to a meet and greet if that's what you want, not an event like that. He had no obligation to go to the party and were he at the party, he had no obligation to sign anything. Even Anthony was refusing to take pictures with people that night. It's a privaledge, not a right.
ANYWAY, I had said the other night after the concert that I really like the stripped-down version of Model Prisoner better than the original.

I think what you're saying is that his security guard is a prick... which couldn't be more true, but Adam probably needs someone like that to move the line along, so to speak, while Adam is busy trying to accomodate everyone.
I really, really loved the stripped down arrangement of Every Time Around, which seems to have vanished from the tour setlist.
Hey, Adam -- put it back in! :)

it seems to me that people deal best when they are simply told the truth, right from the start.............
Yes, exactly, and sometimes the truth is that he can't, for whatever reason, accommodate every single fan's wish. It's unfortunate that the Queens Theatre (and his own security, to a lesser extent) f*cked up and lied, but that's not really Adam's fault. I mean, he should tell his own security guard to stop lying, but I doubt he had much to do with the lies of the Queens Theatre workers.

I'm under the impression that what happened in Queens was an issue mostly of miscommunication; a handful of people heard from somewhere that he was scheduled to do an official meet and greet after the show; I have no idea if it ever was true and if that ever was the plan, but that doesn't really matter. They just didn't do a good job of conveying what was going on. I don't blame HIM for letting people assume he was going to be there; nowhere in the information about the party after the show did it indicate he'd be present -- I honestly assumed he wouldn't, because... well, why would he? But yes, all could have been much easier without whatever communication glitches there were.

That's a nice sentiment, but when applied to your arguments about Rent 10, it doesn't work. I was never told that Idina, Taye and Jesse wouldn't be at the Rent 10 afterparty. I dealt. Like I said, why fault HIM when others do the same? Yes, it's the Adam thread and we're talking about Adam, but you're not posting in the Idina thread about how rude and bad it was that she wasn't at the after party. It was 6 months ago. Get over it. The instance we're talking about was only 3 days ago.
Yikes, it's so easy for things to get heated up here in cyberspace. I'll bet that if we were all in a room together these sorts of discussions would have a much gentler tone. Could we all try to give each other a little more benefit of the doubt?
The bottom line is that I don't imagine Adam had a clue as to what was going on. He had probably never said he was appearing at the party, spent some time with family members, was asked by the guard if he could sign for a few fans, said yes, saw the fans, and then left.

If you were over it, you wouldn't have brought it up in the first place. Don't blame me for being mean when I just reacted to what you clearly stated in your posts. And it is much easier to run away and accuse me of being hostile or whatever rather than reacting to the points I made proving your "argument" wrong, isn't it?
