Ashley, I wasn't trying to make a defintive statement about how "Ragtime has no memorable songs." I remember my parents and I feeling that way when we left the theater. However, to be honest, I didn't feel Rent was so great the first time I saw it, either (I remember initially liking Light My Candle and "that living in America song," but not much more). I'll try to give the recording another try after I'm done overplaying the Aida soundtrack.
And I am going to threadjack because I had the best night that I have had in a long long time tonight! We had our Young Dems dinner tonight and I went. I saww a bunch of county officials, state reps and a congresswomen and talked to them, but the great thing was, they all remembered me and were wondering how I was and what i was doing during the primary season. It is great to have people wanting to know and caring and trying to recruit me. I actually have respect as an 18 year old!
But then something really cool happened. The guy I volunteered for in 2004 (and did a ton for) and I were talking and he told me that one of the secretaries at his office (he is a lawyer) will be on maturity leave over the summer and that they would be looking for someone to take her place, and asked if I was interested. I am looking for an office job and have worked with the people at the firm before and love them, so I told him of course I would be and he said that I can pretty much have it seeing that he would be one of my references.
But there was more! I talked ot a women running for Congress in a heavily contested primary and she got my contact information and before she left she made an effort to come up to me and said she would call me this week and she may have a political job (the other job I am looking for). Both of these jobs (especially the law office one) would pay very well.
Then we went out to a bar afterwards and I found out that the guy volunteered for may find a way to run again, and if he does I will work with him. People were also talking about how people have been asking about me within the party. I am so excited about this for the first time in months. These are the people that inspired me to go into politics in the first place and the fact that they have all this faith in me is great! I won't give up on my theater dreams, but I just feel so great right now!
I know the whole over the moon song is refrences to maureen and stuff, like the bulldog is benny. Can someone explain about Elsye (cow), Cyberland, Dish, Spoon, etc and who/what they refer too?
--------------------------------------------------------------- I like to think the dish and the spoon are Mark and Roger. Becuase they were evicted from the table...and eloped...at least in fanfictions. -------------------------------------------------------------
LOL, you're right about the fanfictions! Hence the gay subtext I was referring to in my one post that no one replied to *sniff* Maybe I'll bump it back.
I wonder if maybe even Jonathan Larson himself liked the idea of Mark and Roger together at times? Even tho they were supposed to be the straight ones in the film...who says they couldn't secretly be bi!
"There was this one time an alarm went off - it was in the middle of '24.' That's just wrong. Everyone knows everyone was watching '24' at that time."

My parents found out what I was doing online when I was ten and were NOT happy. I wasn't really doing anything too bad, but I found a group of people online that I really liked and we would all be in a private chatroom like every day. It scared my parents that I was talking to people I didn't know online. They still don't like it.
