Thanks Mariel - that looks like a beautiful setting for a show, and it looks like the audience was sitting very close.
My brother told me that he was only about 15 feet away from where Adam was singing! So yes they were very close.
That's really cool, Dancinqueen. Any hints on what your brother got?
The dining hall served pork for dinner tonight. A small notice was posted by the exit to say that kosher food for Passover will not be served at this location. That made me laugh more than it should have.
Um... I think he bought me a CD because I don't have either of Adam's Cds. he called me before the concert last night and he said if you could have his old CD or his more recent one, which one would you choose? I told him I would rather have "Civilian" I also overheard my mom talking to him saying "so he has a limit on things he signs?" "Well you did get something for Kelsey right?" "Good"
So I think this is good!!! Yay!!! I'll be at dance for awhile, but if anyone else has questions in general about the concert PM me and I'll try and answer them.

Good choice! I like Model Prisoner, but I think Civilian is more cohesive and has more of a direction to it.
I think I like Model Prisoner more.

I think MP kind of lags and gets lost in the middle. It does have some great riffs, though, and I still feel it's a good album, especially when I'm in more of a mellow mood.
I can't stop listening to What I Did for Love.
I just listen to everything on random and I like more MP songs than Civilian ones I think.

I'm torn. There are a couple of songs on each that I think are outstanding, and then others that I like on occasion. I do like the variety on Modle Prisoner...Civilian is a little bit more straightforward.
I'd give the slight edge to MP overall, but there are many songs I like on both CDs.

Kiss today goodbye
And point me toward tomorrow
We did what we had to do
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for love
AHHHHH. I can't stop listening and getting teary-eyed. Clearly, I need a life that doesn't consist of listening to the same song on repeat and writing essays on Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle.
Aw, man SD ... we had that song as part of our field show for marching band like 10 years ago ... now you have it stuck in my head! :)
At least it replaced "Love is my Legs" from DRS cause that's been in my head all week. :)
I like Model Prisoner more. Unfortunately, I broke my copy in half.
I'm in such a lousy mood tonight - sorry!
Turning my mind in a happier direction, one of the things I was interested in when I went to Threepenny was whether it might be something Adam could do - not that it seems very likely that it will run long enough for him to have a chance. But I can really imagine him doing a great job with that music. Gravelly singing is kind of a tradition with the show (Lotte Lenya), and I would love to hear his take on these very cynical yet heartfelt songs. I don't think Alan Cumming really has enough voice for them. I'm not sure about Adam doing the part, especially in the current production. Since Macheath is supposed to be a serious babe magnet, it would certainly be interesting to see him try.
My neighbors have discovered Wicked.
I woke up to them screeching out Defying Gravity.
*shudder*
And, um, yeah, I love What I Did For Love. Adam singing it was like, the highlight of my life. Now all he needs to add to his set list is Tiny Dancer and I can die happy.

Uh, you said Tiny Dancer and I started singing Private Dancer in my head. EEK!
Why Tiny Dancer in particular?
Because Tiny Dancer is an amazing song?
It's my all-time favorite song.
Okay, now I can't get rid of the mental image of Adam singing Private Dancer, and it's creeping me out a bit... *shudder*
I'm not going to argue about it being a great song, since I'm a big Elton John fan, but I'm wondering how you became familiar with it. I guess a lot of younger people first heard it in Almost Famous.
Lexi, I was listening to What I Did for Love this afternoon, and got teary, as well. The verse right before the one you posted is actually what gets me.
Gone, love is never gone.

It's such an emotionally-filled song. It's not so much that I can even relate to it directly, but just the overall outpouring of emotion that gets to me.
The only time I've ever truly cried during a song would be during a performance of L5Y's "Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You" (I was so embarassed!), but I find myself getting teary and choked up over many songs that have that same strong emotional quality.
Exactly. I can relate to isolated lines or verses, but not really directly to all of it. It's just easy to connect with.
Oh, I've loved the song since I was little, Chloe. My parents were Elton fans, so I used to listen to his records all the time.
The best recording I've ever heard of What I Did for Love would have to be from the night they broke the record of most shows on Broadway. It gives me chills.
