I don't know anyone at my school.
I'm one of the only people at my school who actually enjoy Rent. Everyone else refuses to see it because "there are gay people in it". That really bothers me because there is so much more to Rent than just that.
In high school, I was in choir so all of my friends were musical theater nerds. Most of them love Rent so thankfully, I wasn't alone in my love for it. But, I did have a friend of mine who refuses to see it because he thinks it's just about "Gay people dancing around" (That's him, not me speaking). Got into a whole heated argument over that.
I've gotten a lot of my friends into RENT. I have two friends who share my love of the show as much as I do. It's good having slightly obsessed friends to be able to discuss it with.
I have a few friends that are into Rent, but none who like it quite as much as I do.
Hiya.
I'm sure that there were some people at my high school who were into RENT, but back then all I really knew about the show was that someone from NSYNC was in it, and that made me not want to see it. Then once I got to college, the honor society I was in had free tickets to see it one night, and the rest is history.
How was the show?

Someone once tried to convince me that they saw Anthony Rubin-Vega as their Roger in 1999... I was like, I think you're a little confused there buddy.
*waves*
None of my friends like RENT, but I talk about it anyways.
None of my friends are generally into theatre as much as I am. That's where you guys come in .
Same here, Mel!
Hi, Elphie! How was Cabaret?
My best friend is into Rent - but not quite like I am. I always feel like I have to preface everything I'm saying like, "Adam Pascal...you know, he's the guy who originally played Roger, well he....." After a while I get tired of saying something like that every time I want to mention something Rent related.
Bohemian, if you were asking me, it was great! I just had three complaints: 1) No "Mein Herr." WTF? I love that song. 2) Deborah Gibson's accent had some problems; it kept appearing and disappearing 3) she had a lisp for some strange reason. Other than that, it was great. The Emcee was fantastic, GREAT voice, and looked really hot in that dress.
Deborah was really good other than those two minor issues. Her "Maybe This Time" was very good and "Cabaret" gave me major chills.
So, apparently, according to CapnHook, this was the 1987 version, with the exact same costumes and sets as the 1998 revival version. huh. Also, apparently, the only reason the Emcee was wearing the concentration camp costume in this production was because they gave them that costume, too. It wasn't in the 1987 version.
The theatre was at least half empty, which was really sad. But, it was a Sunday matinee, so I'm assuming it is better at other times.
My best friend is a "renthead" who just heard the OBCR the other day.
Yes, I was asking you! It's weird that Mein Herr wasn't in the show. I really like that song. I'm glad that you had fun!
I rented Cabaret from my library today..I couldn't really get into it. I love the song 'Willkommen' though.
No Mein Herr? wtf?!
I didn't like the movie, I also found Liza's Cabaret too lively. But I love the revival soundtrack. Mein Herr is my favourite Sally song.
I don't get why they would take it out.
The revival soundtrack is really good.
The movie, Mel? It takes a while to get into it. The show is 1000 times better.
OKay, some one needs to reassure me that I am not a bad person. I LOVE the song "Tomorrow Belongs To Me". Especially the second version in the show. It's a gorgeous song, and it just fills you up and seems so uplifting. Too bad I'm Jewish and it's the Nazi anthem. Oops. My mom has already asked me three times today to stop singing it. I feel like a bad Jew. :-/
ETA: I fail at typing.
I HATED the movie. The time I spent working onn the show was the most fun 3 months I've ever had, though.
Mel and Bohemian, it's the same with me. Most of my friends have maybe seen/heard of a few of the bigger shows, but I'm sure they would be like "WTF?" if I mentioned the name of an actor from one of those shows. I'm lucky that my mom, while not particularly knowledgeable about Broadway (I've given up on trying to correct her when she refers to cast recordings as soundtracks), likes seeing shows and really enjoyed RENT.
Elphie, that's interesting that they would use the set and costumes from the '98 revival but do the '87 show.
My parents love theatre..but hate travelling into NYC. I LOVE going into the city.
