I believe Toronto is the 3rd largest(english speaking)theatre city. Am I correct? I forget where I heard that from.
I mean, why not come to Toronto.

*hugs the Canadians*
Good night, everyone. (Yeah, I skipped the Anthony signing to study, I'm going to bed before midnight - anyone get the feeling I'm stressed out about my midterm? )
I'm not sure where we rank in size, but I do know we're pretty big. I've only heard of three cities that have original casts, Broadway, London, and Canadian (which is Toronto). A lot of shows start here before they move to New York (LOTR, Mamma Mia).

Aww, I can relate a little, living in Ohio is like living in Canada. Until recently no one ever came here, but now Raul is making an appearence, so I guess I shouldn't complain. I'll join your Canada campaigne!!!

Okay, so I just watched the DVD, and all I wanted to say is, don't shoot me for saying this, but I understand where Chris is coming from in the cutting of Halloween (not so much Goodbye Love or April's suicide.)
I was watching it, and I could understand why he cut it, because you just come from Angel's funeral, and you're feeling a lot of emotion, and then it just cuts to Mark. It's much more powerful coming from the song and then just seeing that rose being placed on Angel's grave. Having Halloween in between kind of takes away from that, although I think that they should have found some way to put it in.
Oh, and I loved the commentary. :)
Also, I LOVED the alternate ending, and how it both worked and didn't work. It would have been a suitable ending, but I can see how stupid and or nitpicky people would have either been confused as to whether Angel was still alive, or why he was coming back out.
Oh, and one more thing. While I might sort of agree that Halloween wouldn't have completely worked, I think that Chris Columbus overanalyzes things to the extreme. He put absolutely way to much thought into each and everything in the movie. That shouldn't be a bad thing, but considering everything he put too much thought into ended up being a decision that most of the fans hated, it is.

I understand where he's coming from about Halloween, too. I understand where he's coming from about Goodbye Love, even, but understanding isn't agreeing. I'm up in arms about the suicide still, though.
I wasn't particularly upset with Chris until I got the DVD, and found out some of his "reasonings".

I felt that Anthony was trying to be nice about the cutting of Goodbye Love, and he was much more upset about it then he let on.
The suicide excuse was ridiculous. That's the thing that annoyed me the most about the movie. And in the commentary, he would just not stop overanalyzing. He even thought that it would take away from the movie because Adam wasn't looking into Rosario's eyes! The excuse for not enough Taye is also ridiculous. If Goodbye Love had been in the movie, he wouldn't have had fans complain about it "ruining the pacing". He seemed surpised that people were upset about these things.
Oh, also, another interesting note on something different. I freeze framed every scene of Mark's movie (Sad, yes). And some of the scenes were interesting. There was Angel in a different wig, Mimi in a different stripper costume (and not the weird pink one either), Idina in a really ugly see through shirt, and what looked like Adam (you couldn't see his face, and he had a hat on but it might have been him) kissing someone with blonde hair. It was really random, and I was confused about that one.

I dunno. I really tried to accept what he did, and just take those as his choices. But the suicide thing.. I guess I would've felt better about a REAL explanation. Not "I couldn't fit it."
Katt, those are from wardrobe tests.
A lot of those shots are from the wardrobe tests.
I tried for 10 minutes to freeze the frame of the baby-Anthony picture in Marks movie.
And the commentary was so great, I love all their hair comments. And Anthony during Sante Fe...hilarious.

I know they are. I just thought it was interesting seeing them.
Everytime I watch that Santa Fe scene, that Britney Spears video will be playing in my mind. Hehehe. It's really sad that I know which music video it is.
I'm really irked about the whole suicide thing though. I really don't buy that reasoning.

Anthony talking about the "disappearing girl" in the Santa Fe scene was hilarious. He so got that (and The Cliff) from here.
I didn't buy the suicide excuse either, and even if I know understand where he was coming from with Halloween, and even Mimi's part of Goodbye Love, I really wanted Mark and Roger's fight in the movie. I still maintain that it was needed.
We're actually not supposed to be talking about specifics here. Not everyone has the DVD. I do, but I figured I'd return the favour from the Without You discussions.

Sorry. You are, of course, right.
I wonder why -- even in the deleted scene -- the lines "For someone who's always been let down, who's heading out of town?" and "for someone who longs for a community of his own, who's with his camera, alone?" are missing. I think "I hate the fall" is also not there.
I know. Grrr. You're going to start of a rant Em.

I hate the fall isn't there.
And there are still some deleted scenes that I would like to see. The suicide for one.

Thank you! I was barely resisting the urge to not mention that.
I wasn't particularly upset with Chris until I got the DVD, and found out some of his "reasonings".
Same here. While I can understand why Halloween was cut, I can't bring myself to agree with his reasons for cutting Goodbye Love, and I seriously wanted to throw something at my TV when he gave his reason for not including the suicide and when he made his "I wish there were more Taye" comment. And all of the "look at this perfect camera angle!" stuff really started to grate - it's a movie where you had the luxury of multiple takes, every damn camera angle should be perfect!
The missing lines in Goodbye Love threw me for a loop, too. I wonder what sort of "explanation" Chris would give for that.

Good morning, everyone!
I'll say it one last time: Columbus was apparently hired to do the commentary so he could kiss his own ass along with the collective ass of the crew. I never really loved the man's personality -- or at least what we saw of it -- in the first place.
I'm now done with complaining about Columbus. I suppose it's better that I'm bitching about the commentary rather than most of the actual movie.
Good morning!
So...I mostly watched ice skating last night, but I did watch the deleted scenes. 'Goodbye Love' made me cry.
...Sasha Cohen is amazing....
Morning Elphie! Goodbye Love made me cry, too.
I agree with a lot of the DVD discussion... Chris's justifications of his cuts weren't very satisfying. Goodbye Love NEEDED to be there. I do sort of believe him on the suicide, though... they fit a lot into One Song Glory as it is, and if it's that graphic a scene it might take you out of the song more than it should. I did really, really disagree with him when he said that he didn't think that it affected Roger's characterization whether April had killed herself or died of AIDS. I think that it's essential to understanding where Roger's coming from, and I really wanted it there, but I'm inclined to believe him that it wouldn't fit in properly. A better director would've been able to foresee these things and make it work (not that that's a particular slam on Chris, because I think he did a fairly good job).
Morning, everyone.
