Sounds like lots of fun, Rach. I should get going, too - I have a midterm today and I'm probably going to wind up studying for it during the class before it at this rate.

Yeah, so my own avatar is starting to creep me out a little, lol. I think I'm going to go find a new picture.
I had so much I wanted to do today, except I set my alarm for 10pm and not 10am. Good thing my friend called to wake me up.
I'm in school..shh i'm bored and we are not doing anything in my research class..*sigh*
Yay! My chocolate finally got here
What's a research class?
Research classes are boring. I had bio research my freshman year.
it's this student research class..you umm research? lol. Only some schools offer it and it's a four year course. Then you get to enter a competition at the end. It's hard to describe.
double post.
oo today at lunch people were giving out hershey kisses to each table. yum
I was asking because I thought it might be that. I did the same, but it was three years. What are you studying?
My high school had Science Research and Social Science Research classes like that. It was basically preparation for entering the Intel competitions and that sort of thing.
Wow, they sound more interesting than my school's research class. we only have it for honors biology, and it's basically just an excuse for them to give you a double period of science. There were no competitions or anything, and it was a one year course.

Yay! Without You just arrived. So... chat or read tonight? Heh.
Read!
Guess who skipped her 12:30 class?
These are usually done through universities, and the teachers in high schools need special training to teach them. You pick a subject and get a "mentor" who does real research and then you work with them (there's a time requirement). You learn to do symposium presentations, poster presentations and you write a big paper for submission to the big competitions.
Well right now we are doing a group project with culturing bacteria..and overall we get to choose any topic we choose that we study over the four years. I am not exactly sure what i'm doing..something with dance and theater (it has to be somewhat scientific) I started researching the physics of dance. Not sure.

Heh, Rachael, I'm not sure if I should take that as a backhanded insult.
I've never taken a research class. Our school is very... basic?
that is exactly what it is Em..and everyone else who tried to explain it
Read SD!
Read, then chat.
I think at my school, the research classes were 3 years - you could start in sophomore year, and there were certain competitions for each year to enter.
We didn't have research classes.
the bell is about to ring..bye!

I feel so out of place among all you fancy prep schoolers! I go to your average high school. There are a few AP classes offered, but not much beyond that in the way of opportunities for "advanced" students.
Nope, you really should read the book
I skipped class, so I should probably do some work (or finish Anthony's book)... yeah.
hah, I went to a totally average boring crappy high school. We just happened to have that cool class. :)
Lexi, don't feel left out. I went to a NYC public high school with not so stellar academics.
