They Can't Take That Away From Me (Girl Crazy)
Who Can I Turn To - When Nobody Needs Me (Roar of the Greasepaint)
I Won't Dance (Roberta)
Talk Amongst Yourselves (Taboo)
Not While I'm Around (Sweeney Todd)
It's Not Where You Start (See Saw)
As Long As He Needs Me (Oliver)
American Tune (sung a cappella)
It was a more subdued concert compared to the Zipper shows he did last year, but I expected that with it being more Broadway themed and being held at Town Hall. My favs were I Am What I Am, I Won't Dance, As Long As He Needs Me, American Tune, Who Can I Turn To and Talk Amongst Yourselves. When I saw Talk listed I got a little nervous for him, but he did an absolutely beautiful job with it. Made a comment prior to singing it that he was singing a song from Taboo that wasn't his in the show, cause he's tired of singing those songs. Silly boy. I could see why he'd be tired of singing them, but I'll never be tired of hearing him sing them. He also said he called Liz up and asked if he could sing it. She replied that she didn't care what he sang, so he said o.k. then I will. Then he told us she said that she hoped he didn't think that just because he was going to sing her song, she was going to come see the show, cause she wasn't. Those of you that don't know Euan, it probably sounds like a mean conversation, but they're friends and it was all said jokingly. He told us that she couldn't come to the show, since she's in a show now called Bingo. He said they even play Bingo during the show, he thought. He started yelling out numbers and realized he was doing the British version of it, without the letters first and then faux mockingly started saying things like B8 - I19- O68.
Prior to him singing As Long As He Needs Me, he said that he's always wanted to sing it, but never has. Then he said he's spent alot of time coming to terms with who he is and he's comfortable in his own skin so he decided to do it. Beautiful rendition. When he finished, he commented that his grandmother was probably turning over in her grave, but she was of a different time. At that, the audience laughed with him, with being the operative word there. I almost got in a fight with the man in front of us at that point. More on that later.
American Tune was... glorious. I can't think of another word to describe it. Prior to singing that, he told us how he wanted to sing it, but it wasn't a song from a musical and how he so wanted to fit it in. Having a mtg. to go over his material with the Siegel's he mentioned wanting to do it. Barbara piped up that Mandy Patinkin had actually sung that song in Yiddish at some point in time, somewhere, soooooooooo. Because of that, he was able to keep it on the list. The Mandy comment had elicted more laughter from the audience. After he sang it, he thanked Mandy for having sung it somewhere and Barbara for knowing that.
Now for the guy in front of us. We had seen him and this woman outside prior to the concert, asking if anyone had tickets to sell. I've seen them before at events, and I think there have been threads on the two of them on the main board. Well, they managed to get tickets and plopped their butts in the two empty seats in front of us. I don't think they were in the right seats, cause I had seen them get thrown out of seats further up, earlier in the evening. Anyway, when we were all laughing at the rolling over in the grave comment, he turned to the woman and said "that's funny?", "what's so funny?" Then turns back to me and said "that's not funny". I said, "yeah, it is." I'm thinking to myself, um, hello? Did you even hear what he said prior to singing the song and listen to the words of the song? Did you miss when he said she was of a different time?"
When Euan told the story of American Tune and Mandy Patinkin and we laughed when he thanked Mandy and Barbara, again he turned to me and said "this isn't funny". I was like "if you don't get it, you shouldn't be here". To her credit, the woman with him kept hitting his arm and shushing him when he started both times. Luckily it was all done in whispers. I had visions of me decking the guy and getting thrown out.
They had an intermission after Euan. I was outside with some friends, and I was almost tempted not to go back in, cause I had a feeling since he was done, he wasn't going to stick around. I really wanted to just say hi and see how things have been, since it's been so long since he's been around. Then I was feeling guilty and also thought that maybe he might come out at the end with Eden. Alas, that didn't happen. He was gone by the time it was over.
A bunch of us were standing outside afterwards, just chatting since some of us hadn't seen each other in ages. After a bit, the group started to break up and go our separate ways. There were four of us walking in the same direction, and came upon a couple people we were acquainted with and stopped to talk. Turns out they were standing in front of the place where a bunch of the people involved with putting on the concert went. Voila! The Scottish boy was inside, also. Went inside and saw some other people we knew and chatted with them a bit. Saw and spoke with Euan who seemed happy that we had come to the concert. Then he went outside with a couple friends, we chatted some more to a couple other people and then made our way back outside to go home. Had a few more words with Euan, said good-bye and went on our merry way. Basically, a damn good night.
Whew! Sorry this is so long. If anyone reads the whole thing, thanks!
Again, thanks for indulging me!

Yay, a trip! What are you doing there?

Being Catholic for four days. It'll be fun! But it's kind of bad timing, because it's the very end of the marking period.
Is is weird that my dad and I were dueting on "Tango:Maureen" in the car this afternoon?

Hehe, no, that's fun! My dad said he'll see the movie because I've been talking about for almost a year, but I can't see him learning any of the songs. We do a mean rendition of the Beatles' "When I'm 64", though!
Ooh, fun! The Beatles are awesome. Have you seen the OT video yet?
