Oh, I'm such an eBay addict. Every DVD I've bought in the past few months came from eBay.

I've only ever bought one thing, and it wasn't even an auction.

Too bad about the Golden Globes, though as *awards* no one takes them very seriously. The Hollywood Foreign Press consists of a bunch of waiters and would-be actresses from foreign countries who occasionlly send in a story to their small-town home papers. I exaggerate, but as a group of journalists they are kind of a joke. They've managed to turn the awards, probably their only event, into quite a PR thing though. People enjoy going to them because of the relaxed atmosphere, and big stars are nominated so they'll show up and bring the show more publicity. One hand washes the other, as is the case with a lot of awards.

I think what might have hurt RENT the most with the Golden Globes are the generally bad reviews in LA, unlike a lot of other places where they were split down the middle.

No one takes them very seriously, but of the big ones, that was their chance. That movie probably isn't Oscar material, alas.

You're right, and from a PR standpoint it would have been very helpful. The combination of no big names, bad LA reviews and perhaps Chris Columbus reputation in Hollywood did them in.

ETA: Hello Dance - those pants are always referred to as being vinyl, but I don't know if that's accurate or not. Updated On: 12/13/05 at 01:54 PM

According to JHartnow, the Mimi pants are silver hologram blue lurex.

Sounds expensive.

It's disappointing I know, Emcee, but I'm looking forward somewhat confidantly to the day when RENT is a considered a classic. I'm remembering that It's a Wonderful Life received indifferent reviews and was something of a box office flop on its initial release, and that the work of genius Night of the Hunter killed the directing career of Charles Laughton.

I'm upset too. When I think about it I suppose it wasn't worthy of winning some awards but I dunno w/ the musical/comedy category it just seems like...no complete comedies ever win or are recognized, usually it's comedy w/ some drama--As Good As It Gets, Lost in Translation to name a few...which is why I always thought most musicals secure nominations like Phantom did last year. Was kinda hoping the same would happen to Rent.

Honestly of those nominated I've seen P&P, I will see Producers, are all of these worthy you guys think above it? Did I underestimate the category this year?

Everyone I know who saw Rent liked it.

Just in case someone involved with the movie should be lurking, I want you to know. And that statistic includes me, and I am a bitcH of a critic.

I don't even know what lurex IS.

I wanted Adam to get something. I know it was unlikely, but this was his chance.

Me too, Emcee. I want him to be recognized period. The whole thing is "Rosario this, Rosario that". She did a very good job, but I hate that no one bothers to look at the rest of the cast because they haven't done movies in the past.

I'm afraid he won't get any jobs at all now.

And what's worse is that not only is she EVERYWHERE, but she directly overshadows him because they're a romantic pair.

I like her. A lot. But I just want Adam to get some love!

He'll do something. Broadway still loves him.

OMG. But I have to say, the one kissing scene that really grabbed me was with no tongue at all. There's a scene of LVB when the camera is panning across the table at all the characters, and Roger and Mimi are kissing...their lips are barely touching and they're not even moving...it's the gentlest, most romantic kiss I can ever recall seeing!
{swoon}

Adam's way too yummy. I wonder what it's like for Cybele and Jason Lewis to watch their SO's get so romantic on screen!

And a lot of dreams.

Ideal Chess cast:

The Russian- Raul
The American- Adam
Florence- Julia

Too lazy to cast Svetlana, whose songs I never listen to anyway. The arbiter can be played by pretty much anyone. Thoughts on Molokov?
