My parents are broadminded in some ways (the more important ways, thankfully), but so narrow-minded in others. Bah, life sucks.

Hi, Nia! Our avatars look pretty.

I don't have to, you're very obvious. And I really did not know.

Chloe, how goes work? Anything new?

My parents are kinda homophobic too...which is why I don't tell them anything. >_> I don't exactly know how they would react...so I'm just keeping it. There hasn't been anything to make me tell them, and plus, I'm going to college in a month..so meh.

Fine, then my mistake.

I wonder when this trailer will start appearing in movie theatres, as opposed to the old one.

ETA - again, jean claude - we keep posting at the same time. Where are you off to school, if you don't mind?

My parents voted Kerry wholeheartedly but do not like to think about bad things like those gay people.

*sigh*

jeanclaude, I take it you're gay?

Ellie, very pretty indeed. Prettiest around.

Is that where you're originally from, jeanclaude?

My father voted for Bush the first time around - I think he changed his mind last time, though. And they claim they've nothing against it, but it's obvious that they don't mean that.

Lol yes...I am..

Edit: I'm from here..Califoria. My parents are hispanic/latino though. My mom was born in Mexico and my dad from Salvador...both are English speaking now though, and work in financial services...so they are a bit more 'americanized' than other hispanics, but...meh. Mentality doesn't change for many other things...

Edit: And that's not what you asked, is it? Or is it? Did you ask if I'm from California or from Riverside..cause the first one, I am, I am not from Riverside...lol Updated On: 8/25/05 at 09:49 PM

My parents- "well, I don't think we should kill them, but I don't want to see it or hear about it"

Keep those queers closeted. Sunday in the Park

Do you like living in California, jean?

My parents are very tolerant towards minorities, which is good. Don't how they'd react if I was gay, though!

I think everyone should have hot avatars of men wearing dark clothes and eyeliner. Who's with me?

I was sure from your name that you were French or French-Canadian. I hope your parents turn out to be more broad-minded than you expect if you ever do talk with them about it. Sometimes it makes a difference when it's their own child.

Definetly does... I once asked if I could go to a GSA meeting because my friends were starting it at my school. My mom freaked out and thought I was gay.

jean, best to do it when you don't have to live there, in case they don't take it too well. Good luck.

Ellie, yes! We were going to do that a few days ago but forgot.

Today my mother used the words "weird" and "gross." I could kick her.

jeanclaude, maybe at college you'll find a delicious boyfriend who'll help you come out to your parents if that's what you so choose. I'd imagine it helps when you've got someone to support you.

You saw the Rent tour with your Mom on your birthday, didn't you, Nia? What did she think of Angel etc.? Are your parents homophobic views due to religious beliefs?

For using those words, or for what they were used in relation to, Emcee?

Go GSA! The one at my school is actually really, really big. Half the kids at school participate in the National Day of Silence.
My parents are pretty tolerant. My dad makes rude jokes about it sometimes, but I always shut him up.

Ellie, my mom was raised very religiously and that is part of what bothers her- it's 'unnatural'. She's also had zero expousure to it in real-life situations and believes that all gay men are annoying flamer types who just make out. Had she ever any gay friends, I think she'd realize that they're just normal people.

My dad's really resistant to anything not white-bread America.

As for Rent, my mom liked the overall message and a few of the songs, but a lot of individual parts bothered her, like La Vie Boheme and all of the homosexuality.

ETA- The Day of Silence is ridiculous. It doesn't do anything. I can't think of anyone who became more aware of anything because a couple of kids thought it was cool to not talk for a day. Shouldn't they be doing the opposite? Speaking up so that people become more familiar with it rather than creating some exclusive little silent group? That is one thing that turns people off to the 'whole gay thing'.

How many parents do you have, theatrebabe??

My parents (and me!) were raised Catholic, but are kind of pick 'n' choose about what they believe in. Oh well, Moms suck sometimes.

Wow, I thought my parents were bad. I'm starting to realize how lucky I am. My mom actually thought that Angel/Collins is the best love story in RENT.

I think there are plenty of very tolerant, open-minded religious people, but you would never know it nowadays. The religious right has co-opted all the attention.
