For who/what they were related to, Chloe. Neither of my parents were raised in particularly religious settings, but they just have... old-fashion, if you will, views.

The Day of Silence has completely lost any meaning it did have; it's all about being a sheep now.

Not at my school, actually. There are a LOT of gay rights activists at my school. You're more likely to get beat up for calling someone a fag than because you are one. I love my school.

My Dad is a lot like your parents Nia. He mainly just likes to be mad about things though, so I think many of his anti-gay rants are just general misanthropy.
Of course don't get me started on the whole religion thing, breaking people from the idea that they should treat people badly because they are religious is what I'm doing with my life.

Em, I am so jealous of the private viewings you are having I'm going crazy here. I wish I had access to information like that.

Sorry, Penguin. Sunday in the Park Unfortunately it's kind of tough to understand the words at some points, but I do like it so far.

personally, I think it's the stupidest thing to hate something just because you religion says that it is wrong.
I'm a Christian...but i LOVE me some gay men!! lol almost all my guy friends are gay and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My school is full of homophobes...critical assholes. I'm so glad I left that place. It was hell disguised as a school.

For a good few years, my high school's administration wouldn't allow a gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender club of any kind; I tend to think it was because of the personal beliefs of the extremely conservative administration and their concern with the school's image, though they tried to blame it on some bizarre loopholes in the system.

(Back to an earlier subject that someone said... I have a picture where I'm wearing eyeliner. : P One for a musical..and one...visiting Alcatrax at San Francisco with my choir...lol. I'm in a cell. : P)

Anyway, yeah I'm hoping I can meet guys at college, cause over here, during high school, there were none that I liked...or that I wanted to do anything with. No romance...But i'm hoping college is better. ^_^ And We'll see about my parents eventually...maybe I'll tell them sometime. I'll see when the time is right..

And back to Rent..Grrr...I had to logout, and the video stopped loading. >_> I have to start all over...Damn.

My school was pretty okay to some extent...I never had any problems. But maybe just cause I'm not the femminine type, so I don't annoy them or something...: P

It is precisely that out of tune, and I can point you to the exact time and place it became exceptable to paint gays with that brush in the name of religion, it wasn't 29 AD. Sunday in the Park

Em, it was difficult to understand the words in the production I saw off-off broad two weeks ago (if you are now talking Merrily)

and the Raul, I want to see Raul play those parts SO badly.

Yeah, I'm talking about Merrily. The dialogue's kind of tough to pick up. I can probably find a libretto someplace, though.

I've tried so desperately to get my brother off of using "gay" as a term for something he dislikes; you know, like a book or his homework or something.

Tune, I'm Christian too. A lot of the pro gay rights people at my school love to bash Christianity but will not hear a word against what they stand for.

Tolerance my ass.

It's not Christianity that's to blame, it's people's insane interpretations of it. Just like Islam is a peaceful religion, but some nutjobs out there still felt the need to crash planes into buildings.

Emcee, your school might be doing you all a favor by prohbiting the self-righteous GSA...

Well yeah, but I actually use gay as a derogative for something like "that's gay.." or "the movie's really gay" or something similar...but I am, so it's not like a think it's bad thing...but maybe being a guy who likes guys, guys just get annoying to anyone who likes them. Hehe. I am one, so I should know. >=D Guys suck. But I couldn't live without them. : )

Ellie, Fuzzels is open minded, I taught him what I could.

Em, I bought the librettos to Sunday, Forum, Company, ALNM, and Sweeny today. Sunday in the Park Kim's didn't have Merrily but I have seen it.
I've given up hope on asking people to stop using "gay" that way, I just hope it will pass. My sister does it all the time.

And Jeanclaude, I know it may not be fair but I am one of those people who sees it as ok for someone who is gay to use the term or the "f term" however they like, but me as the straight white male absolutely NOT.

Ours probably would've made it okay, I think. It had a very well-respected teacher behind it, rather than coming across as being a bunch of rowdy kids. *shrug* Stuff gets out of hand very easily at that place, though.

I guess it really does all depend on the group...

My school's GSA is the most judgemental wannabe-ish group I've ever met.

Jean, that's unusual. Are you ever offended when someone else uses 'gay' instead of 'stupid'? Or have you entirely separated your sexual identity from the slang term?

College is sooooo much better than high school. I hate when 'gay' is used derogatorily.

And I'm glad to hear Fuzzels is open-minded - I plan to abduct him and do dirty things with him.

There were definitely some kids who wanted it as a self-promotion stunt, but I think it had good, awareness-raising intentions.

I guess the reason behind such qualms with the terminology - like gay versus queer, etc etc - may have something to do with the derogatory use. I read a great line in a play the other day, and it went something like "homosexual is not a thing. It's a description."

Fuzzels would not mind that, even though I have tried to keep him pretty sheltered. Sunday in the Park

College is much better than high school, my current school is really weird with all this though. Discussions are hard because most people are so personally connected to their opinions we can't get far. I have been told to stop talking in class because "my voice has been drowning ours out forever" it can be tricky.
