I'm going back tomorrow too, and I should really be reading right now. The book doesn't even have sparknotes. Damn IB making us read books that don't have sparknotes.

And I have practice tomorrow, which means running many miles. In the snow. Bleh. Oh well.

Siamese, that's a cool story about the origin of your username. In case anyone's interested in where mine comes from, I've been buying Billboard magazine every week for about 2 and a half years (randomly picked it up at a newsstand during lunch break on a boring day at my summer job, enjoyed all of the pretty charts and articles, and got hooked on tracking where my favorite artists were on the charts each week). The day I bought Adam's CDs, the cashier at Tower Records said "you're the Billboard girl, aren't you? I see you come in and buy that magazine every Friday." I thought it had a nice ring to it, and the rest is history.

"I meant to say that BG, you look beautiful as well -- really mature! I still look 12. Oh well! "

Awww, thanks. It's funny that you mention that - when I put this pic up at another board I post at, the general consensus was that I looked about 5-10 years older than my actual age and that it was my hairstyle that made me look older. The funny thing is that up until I was about 16, people always thought I looked younger than I actually was.

"So, really, I don't have to worry about grades at all, but I still would have this awkward feeling if I were forced to go the teacher and say that I didn't do the assigned work."

Ah, senioritis. I didn't really get to experience that, because I was one of those people who freaked out about "bad" grades, plus I was taking 2 AP courses and 2 college courses during my second semester of senior year.

"Heh, I always say that to myself as I type posts. I have the tendency to slip into passive voice about, oh, 75% of the time when writing casual conversation-ish posts like these."

Heh. I feel funny writing in the passive voice even when I'm just on the board because I can practically hear all of my high school English teachers yelling about why it should be avoided.

*hugs those who are homework-stressed and/or seeking refuge*

Lucky elphie!

This IB sounds insane! And I thought that I'm working crazy amounts, but pages and pages and pages - wow! I guess we have different types of work.

We should start a club. Or run a study for our Group Four projects.

Honestly? This thread has made me realize that I don't have it that bad with regards to schoolwork. Thank God for the SAT, because I really haven't taken a completely full load at any time in high school.

The Group Four project is making want to kill myself. No one else does any work, and our recorder hasn't shown up in over a month.

Also, I haven't learned a thing in HL Bio. I think that's a problem.

I haven't learned a thing in SL bio. Don't feel too bad. Actually, it's AP bio too because they COMBINED our "easy" class with the "hard" one. I did NOT sign up for hardass science!

We haven't actually started the group four projects yet, but we're well into our history IAs.

I'm going back to work rather than school tomorrow, and have somehow gotten myself into the position of having to do two jobs on a couple of days. Not thinking about it too much seems the best way to handle it.

Mandi, sorry about the Anthony threads. I don't know what possessed me to post on that new one, other than that I'm not in the greatest mood.

We haven't started our History IA's, and I'm NOT looking forward to them.

Em...a Group Four project is...BS. Especially when no one else does work. But, it's like...a really big science project? The students have to do all of the research and collect all of the data on their own. *shrug*

Mandi, you MUST read

www.ibscrewed.net

Best thing ever.

History IAs are bizarre. You have to basically make a list of facts and then analyze them like... three months later.

What are your HL classes? I'm doing art (MUCH harder than it sounds!), English and History of the Americas. And then there's bio, which is basically HL under another name.

Nia, ibscrewed is amazing. I lurk there. :) My friend posted something about our TOK teacher on there and he found it. That was fun.

My HL classes are English, History of the Americas and Bio. And my SL classes are French, Psychology and Math Studies, which is the easiest class ever.

I had a B- in math studies last quarter. My teacher likes to make things harder than they need to be and I just generally suck at math.

My grades are sooo bad this time around... I don't think the English paper I wrote today is good at all, my spanish is a B- and unless I miraculously get two more studio art projects done in the next two weeks, I'm F*CKed over bad in art.

Do you know if IB actually does any good with getting into college/getting money?

Yikes, reading about what the IBers have to go through is making me feel like I had it easy in high school, and that's saying A LOT.

*wonders if there are any other Mets fans in the thread*

I've always wondered HOW you're graded in an art class? In so many ways, "good" art is in the eye of the beholder. So they can't grade you on how much they LIKE your work -- how does that go?

A work of art is an invitation to love.

Nia, depending on where you're going, yes. I know you mentioned that you're not looking into the upper tier of schools -- in that case, it probably won't help you get in as much as save you money (if you've earned enough college credit through the IB program).

If you are at least somewhat considering a school with selective admissions, yes, it definitely helps. The admissions departments of said schools claim that they look for students who have challenged themselves by taking a harder courseload throughout high school.

Hope this helps.

Edit: BG, I can't say I'm a Mets fan (my entire mom's side of the family lives in Manhattan and are crazy Yankee fans), but I don't cheer against them. Kind of going against my Yankee fandom, I know, but I can't root against New York teams! Updated On: 1/2/06 at 10:57 PM

I had a 91 in Math Studies...but that didn't help much. My average was barely an 80.

This is only the second year my school has had it, so I'm not entirely sure. I know one senior got a full scholarship to Georgetown, and I know of a few people that have gotten full scholarships to SUNY schools.
