He does push his glasses up all the time, though I suppose it could fit the character of Mark.
Here's my theory about Matt. Him and Cary did the show together for years, and they both had to have been getting bored. I think Matt was just trying to get Cary to laugh. Trying to make it interesting again.
But when Cary um...left, and Matt got paired with Jay, Josh, and then Will...it might have felt different, and new, and exciting again. Or something.
I don't know what I'm talking about...but really, he was good when I saw him on Saturday. I mean, he did act like a horny teenager once or twice...but overall, I thought he was good.
I saw a boot with him and Cary, and yeah...no. He's completely different.
i've never really thought he was annoying, but maybe thats just because I've never seen any other Mark's performance.
Matt was really good when I saw him...who knows, I think he's one of thise love-hate preformers.
Every time Matt comes back after a break, everyone always says 'that's the Matt I loved and knew from the Benny days'. Someone also mentioned that perhaps Matt was a little intimidated by Will Chase - Matt's been playing Mark against all his buddies lately, so maybe someone new coming in made him feel the need to not fool around. The interesting thing will be when Tim Howar comes in, will Matt go back to his antics?
I saw Matt on the Benny Tour. I saw Cary too, I believe it was one of his first shows as the full time Roger on the tour. They were great...though it was my first exposure to Rent, so I probably wasn't the best judge, but still.
And even if he does go back to his antics...it'll only be for like 2 months.
Matt's been with the show since... forever. I think he's getting bored with it.
I hope they bring in someone good once Matt leaves
I'd love for them to put an unknown in the role.
Of course.
I'm kinda nervous cause I'm about to go audition for LSOH at my theatre group. Wish me luck!
have fun, moonlight! I know it's something I couldn't do.
Good luck, moonlite!
I'm off to dance class, actually.

"But when Cary um...left"
Hahah. Seriously, does anyone know if there's truth behind the Cary rehab rumors? I'm curious because I saw him JUST before he left.
I have to work on my debate cases for tomorrow and I want to cry. I just want to slaaaack.
I dunno. I've heard different things from different people. *shrug*
I wish that we knew more about why Cary left. I really liked him when I saw him. I'm on my way out, I'm seeing WIW.
Will do.
Backtracking to the Matt Caplan discussion:
While, IMO, no one compares to Anthony as Mark, I've heard a lot of good things about Matt, and I'm curious to see if he really is that good. Mark is pretty much my favorite character, so to see a good actor playing him would really make the experience that much better. Then again, if Matt is really bored with the part, seeing someone who just got into the role might be better. Matt's not leaving anytime soon, right? At least not before I see Rent on March 12?
I think he's leaving in early March...so maybe. I don't know the exact date though.
The only thing that I really didn't like was how he played Mark during the fight in Goodbye Love. I just...didn't really like it. Like I said though, other than that I thought he was fine. Things could change once Tim starts though.
aaaargh, Matt Caplan. That's all.
I've heard like 189409384098 things about Cary. I believe some more than others, of course.
*raises eyebrow* I was sort of out of the whole Cary loop. I know nothing other than he was here, now he's not.
I really want to know what happend with Cary.. it's just one of those things that you dont know so it bothers you cause you might not ever know exactly. I really wanted to see him before he left, that was my rent goal and it just never happend cause he..never came back. I think Matt Caplan is supposed to leave March 19, I read that somewhere. I might be wrong.

"*raises eyebrow* I was sort of out of the whole Cary loop. I know nothing other than he was here, now he's not."
The only reason why I don't feel bad posting this online is because I've read it on other message boards (among other places), so it's not exactly as if I'm unveiling some huge secret. The only rumor I heard about him (regarding leaving the show... the slut rumors are a different story) was that he was sent to rehab because his heroin addiction became out of control. Let's just hope he didn't chose for his life to imitate his art!
The "official" reason given by Cary Shields's website is that he's on a "hiatus from Rent to work on his CD."
