At home, sometimes they have to close the schools because it's so cold.

I don't remember school being cancelled for the cold, mostly just for the snow. I do remember in 1993 there was a blizzard that I got stuck in, in Kentucky, on the way to Florida. I had to sleep in a highschool gymnasiusm because all the hotels were full. That wasn't fun.

My favorite school closing story: when I was in 8th grade, there was Hurricane Floyd. Every school in the state closed the day of the storm, except us. We closed the NEXT (sunny, gorgeous) day.

School gets closed a lot. I think the best stories are when they decide to close in the middle of the day. There's a lot of confusion and such. It's great.

I wish I could have a snow day once, but that doesn't happen in sunny California. What's the snow like? I've never seen it...sad I know.

Snow in NYC is gross, because it gets slushy and dirty very fast. But in most places, it's very pretty!

That brings back memories of last year, Snowbird. I took the bus for 6 hours to go see the Rent tour when it was in New Brunswick (this was in February). On the way back, we got caught in a storm, and the driver told us we could either stay where we were or travel back with the bus, but he wasn't going any further. I was with a friend, and we knew some people who were at the university in the town we were stuck in, so we just showed up there and hoped to find somebody we knew! We did, and had a fun night of hanging out.

A few years ago, we had a big storm around my brother's birthday (I think he was turning 11 that year). Since we couldn't GO anywhere, he didn't get a present or a cake until the next week. He was so upset that whole day. Thank God For Adam

As much as I hated that snowstorm, I love it because it was an interesting experience to go through. My roommate gave me this motto that I go with now "At least it'll make a good story." It makes me less annoyed when things go wrong.

Snow is pretty until it gets all gunky and dirty and nasty.

It's true! Things that all are always entertaining later on.

Threadjack: Of interest to Miss Emcee - Natasha Richardson will be on The View on Tuesday. She's one of the actresses you love, right?

Snow in NYC also loses it's appeal when it turns yellow from dog pee.

I hate how NYC public schools never ever get closed when there's bad weather. I could probably count on one hand the number of snow days I had from kindergarten through 12th grade. Occasionally, they would open the schools 2 hours later than normal, which was kinda dumb - you still had to go to school anyway, but you didn't have time to actually do anything there.

In NYC, snow stays pretty for about 5 seconds. Then the bus comes down the street and makes it slushy and dirty and I want it to be gone until next winter.

It snowed here in California like 8 years ago, right after we moved from Minesota. I was like "Isnt it sunny here". But now I really miss the snow

But at least snow in NYC is probably beautiful for like five minutes while it's still falling. Thank God For Adam

This campus is really gorgeous when it snows, until we have our traditional massive cadet vs. civillian snowball fight. I love seeing freshly fallen snow when no one's walked through it yet. Updated On: 1/15/06 at 01:51 PM

We got a light dusting of snow here in New Jersey, but it's very icy out. I'm staying inside today with a cup of hot chocolate and my Broadway tunes. Thank God For Adam

Heh, I just woke up from the weirdest dream (I fell asleep again after waking up at 8 AM), too. It was about awkwardly meeting my ex-boyfriend somewhere in town... probably because I just mentioned something about him on the thread before falling asleep again. Ew, bad thoughts!

Em, your dream sounded cute! I'm confused, though... you said the bare bones of the situation could happen in a few weeks. Are you planning on meeting with Adam in Boston now? If you are, lucky!

Living in North Dakota, you'd think I'd get a lot of snow days, but the opposite is the case. Everyone is so used to all the snow that it takes so much snow for school to be canceled. We've had two snow days in the last four years.

I love Natasha Richardson, too! I saw her in Streetcar this summer. She was great.

Nah, I'm working on something that he could potentially be at. I'll PM you.

I don't think I'm going to go to Boston.

I think since I've joined this board, this is the longest this thread has gone without a new posts. Come back everybody!

Okay im back. About the facebook thing...apparently our school does periodic searches on google for the name Episcopal High School so that they can see if the students are doing stuff that uses the Episcopal name.

And about the hurricane thing...we've had so many hurricane scares but we always laughed about it. I remember during Hurricane Ivan last year, the school said that it would be an excused absence if we left school early [which was a very stupid thing to say] and basically the whole high school left. As we were signing out, the dean was standing there grumbling about how we were abusing the system. And then me and my friends had a hurricane party, minus the actual hurricane, which decided to go to Pensacola and destroy our condo on the beach. We actually loved hurricanes because we would always get a day off of school and they would never come. So everyone expected Hurricane Katrina wouldn't really hit us...but of course it did and we didn't have school for a week...and Baton Rouge [where I live] wasn't even hit hard.

And oh yeah, it basically never snows here. To us, if it is in the 50s or 60s, it is cold. It snows and actually sticks on the ground here like once every few years.

[I think we are getting close to having to start a new thread. What was the page count when the last one ended?]

It will be depressing when theres a new anthony thread. But it wont be called Welcome Anthony Rapp, probably something like 'Anthony Rapp is sexy' or 'anthony rapp luv'. Scary though
