I know, she really shouldn't have said that. People are so ridiculous sometimes. My other friend refuses to listen to the rent soundtrack because it has gay people in it! I guess that comes with living where I do.

I make it sound like my friends are bad people, and they aren't, but sometimes they can just be really ridiculous. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that I shouldn't like Rent because its a bunch of gay people sitting around giving each other aids...etc. It gets really old trying to defend it too. People should just be more open minded.

Ugh. I hate that some people say things just to sound "cool".

I really can't stand how seemingly out of nowhere it is somehow decided that Opinion A is the "acceptable" or "cool" way of thinking and Opinion B or C or whatever is "wrong." And it's always the people in the Opinion A camp who shout the same thing over and over - who are they trying to convince? The people they're talking at, or themselves?

It also bugs me when people bash something they obviously haven't seen because the subject matter makes them uncomfortable.

I'm back, eating one of the better meals I've made for myself.
It does bother me when people say things to sound cool, but it also depends on age and your friends. I definitely felt more pressure to go along with things even if I didn't agree in high school. I'm a lot more comfortable now voicing my own thoughts and not doing what everyone else is doing. I think it annoys me more now that people are having these opinions but have no idea what they're talking about because they haven't seen the movie.

I didn't really know what to expect ... I only knew bits and pieces of the storyline so I kind of enjoyed just sitting there and enjoying how it played out. When it was over my friends were giggling and whining about it. I didn't bother fighting with them, I didn't have it in me, but I wanted to say "don't you get that the emotion of the movie has nothing to do with the fact there was one sex scene?!?!?" Sigh. I wonder if being single amplified the emotion in the movie whereas they are not??

Well my brother, who's twenty, is mostly the one who makes fun of me about Rent, although I hear it from other people too and he doesn't do it to be cool or whatever. He's just a really conservative person. I keep telling him that he isn't allowed to criticize something he has never seen, but I usually just ignore him. And my friend who made the gay porn comment likes Rent [her best friend love it, and her best friend's sister was actually one of the people who really got me interested in it]. She hasn't seen the movie yet...she wants to wait until the DVD comes out, but its wierd that she would want to see Rent and refuse to see BBM.

My parents are a little conservative too. But my mom has agreed to watch Rent with me when I buy it. I told her I didn't care if she liked it or not, I just wanted her to see it, and then she could maybe understand my obsession a bit more.

Well, BBM is clearly much more explicitly gay.

My little brother wouldn't see Rent because of the gay couple (although he was ALL about the lesbians, which is so hypocritical and way too common), and he ridiculed me for going to see Brokeback Mountain. Despite all my and my parents' efforts, it looks like he's going to turn out to be a bigotted conservative. Where did we go wrong?

My mom is beginning to be a bit more open ended about Rent - agreeing to see it at the 2nd run movie theater (if it happens, we're running out of time) or on DVD. She doesn't have interest in BBM but her excuse is "I don't like watching any kind of sex on TV." I'm happy the movie is getting critical acclaim though because perhaps more people who wouldn't normally have seen it will venture out.

Yeah but my friend knows exactly what Rent is about. I don't know, maybe she just doesn't want to watch a movie that is focused completely on a gay relationship? Who knows. People are so wierd.

And my mom didn't like Rent at first, but she has accepted the fact that I'm never going to stop liking it. She saw the stage version with me, and she watched the first five minutes of the movie before her movie started and told my brother that part of the movie she saw was good, but yeah he's not going to listen. My brother will NEVER watch Rent, ever. She says that its unhealthy to like something that much [probably because I saw the movie five times] but otherwise thinks the music is good and doesn't care that I like it.

*pets squishy pillow* Thanks.

My *headdesk* moments seem to be more in the wake of stupidity-induced frustration. This isn't stupidity, it's just circular, and I feel like I'm running at a wall trying to defend him. I don't want to look like "OMG ADAM CAN DO NO WRONG!" 'cause he does a lot wrong, but please. He's not like a slug or something. He has talent.

My mom saw BBM with me. She had wanted to see it, sort of, but I dragged her along to make sure she really did, even though originally I was like "erm, mom. no."

Might I point out - there are a lot more half naked women than men in this movie!

Haha thats what I heard. Another one of my friends went to see it, and she said it was really awkward seeing Anne Hathaway half naked considering all she had done before were PG movies.

Yeah, I was a little more shocked with her than with Michelle ... I guess since Michelle played "the Capeside slut" or whatever.

Dammit! They just killed off my favorite characters on 24! Nooooooo!

My brother's obsessed with 24; I'm sure I'll hear all about it! Thank God For Adam

It's definitely awkward seeing Anne Hathaway play "do you think I'm too fast?" Lureen.

And I must profess my new appreciation for sheep herders. I mean, how do they get sheep to just not walk away?? Impressive, indeed. I don't even have that much control over my cat and there's only one of him.

Random question ... is there a way to hear "the wicked stage" that was on Thursday night and claims to have Rent stuff on? I couldn't figure it out.
