Quick Snaps: What was the "Great Compromise"? Who helped insitute it? and Why?
Broadway Legend Joined: 4/17/05
Aaah!
Something to do with either the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence-- Constitution. To keep the large and small states happy. One legislative house represented by population, another fixed. And... some old, dead, white men. Because people where fighting.
-Pant, gasp-
There were two "Great Compromises" in American History
The one you recall, is about the represtation of states for dividing the houses of government. The small states wanted equal representation while the large states wanted rep based on population. The compromise as set forth by the Constitutional Congress in 1786 was to do both.
The other great compromise was in 1850, the north wanted any new states to oppose slavery so they could vote top ban the practice. The slave owning states in the south wanted the new states to all at least accept they could keep slavery. Henry Clay proposed the "Great Compromise" which was that any new slave state had to also be admitted with a state that was against slavery to keep the balance.
Very nice work, for being put entirly on the spot Snaps, I'd possibly give it a B or B-, if I was in a good mood.

My mind... It's been boggled.
Thanks for you generosity, Penguin. I wish you'd be the one grading the tests. ^^
I somehow doubt that, I was known as quite the strict grader back in the day. It's more that the posters have me all happy. And I recoginze a nobel attempt in a difficult environment.
I nicely boggled mind is good for you at times.
Mine stays at about boggle and a half.

Well, while a B or a B- isn't ideal, it's better than what I've been scoring on the practice exams. Eesh. In any case, thanks for not making me look even more foolish.
My mind is just... boggled beyond boggling. Six boggles, at least, with increasing boggles whenver I notice my text book sitting on top of the printer.
Which reminds me: Does anyone else think that six is a very under-used number? I mean, as far as single-digit numbers go, six sort of gets left out in the cold. Six and eight. I mean, one is one. It's the beginning and the best. Two is a pair. Three's company, as well as magic. Four is a group, two pairs, or a car on a roller coaster. Five is a hand or a foot. Seven is lucky. Nine is easy, multiplication-wise. Then you've got ten, which isnt' really a one-digit number at all, but it's special because it's an even ten.
I feel sort of bad for them.
Don't be down on yourself about it Snaps. I think you did a nice job. Just keep trying and it will pick up.
Amazingly enough I have thought just that about the numbers although, six does have the top spot on a die so there is that. Eight has nothing, just two fours sad and alone.

My pity now shifts from six to eight. Pobrecito...
Cam, I wouldn't call this an intellectual conversation. I'd call this an 'Andrew can't focus during Health so he daydreams, and Penguin shares in his weirdness' conversation.
Here have a seat and relax then cam.

Sit, relax, laugh, Cam. Whatever it is that's got you upset, I'm sure it'll get better.
