Idina did too. But I think they're the two with the most rabid following - not necessarily the most famous, but the two who have drawn the majority of the fans without sanity.
I've always said that I really, truly don't think he's a jerk, or a total asshole like he can come off being; I think a lot of it is the confidence and the little bit of ego, and sometimes people just aren't expecting that. I do really believe that he's a sweet guy - he's never been anything but wonderful to me, anyway. I always assume he won't remember me, but it's all the more unnerving now knowing he definitely does.
And you know, this all circles back to the argument about obligation to sign, etc. They all signed after the Today Show - who knows? Maybe it was just making nice for the cameras, but I also think it was because that was far more controlled than Bryant Park was. It was easier for them to deal with, or at least it looked that way. It was still a lot, and he handled it with poise and his usual outpouring of charm.
I know he gives that vibe sometimes, but I just can't see justification in saying that you get it because he wouldn't sign autographs for literally thousands of screaming (quite frankly very, very obnoxious) fans. If you're ever lucky enough to catch him alone, he's really a great guy. Granted, I don't truly know him, but if I thought he was a jerk, I wouldn't so sincerely say I thought otherwise.
A work of art is an invitation to love.
