Night, Allie!

The four novels I had to read were... *struggles to remember* Jude the Obscure (which I loved), Wuthering Heights (which was fun to laugh at), Billy Budd (which sucked so badly--DON'T EVER READ IT), and Crime and Punishment. It was a little tough to finish everything on time, but MOST of them were good reads. L<3ve

But if you have less than that, then feel lucky. XD

ICK. I had to watch the movie of Billy Budd and I wanted to hurt someone. Anyone but Billy, though. The actor playing him was pretty hot in a queer, elfish way, but that character.... *TWITCH*

What's it about?
#9854

L<3ve

Ick Billy Budd is probably my least favorite story ever, I could not even finish the comic book
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Who decided to make a COMIC BOOK??
#9856

L<3ve

WHAT'S IT ABOUT????
#9858

L<3ve

I hated it so much that I don't really remember.

A sailor, I think.

It was some weird Illustrated Classics thing, it was bad and boring, like the movie, play and book.

Luckily school has not started back yet for me, my Columbia classes are soon (I think) but Union still has until Sept 7th. Yay for some time with no papers!

Since I may be pulling an all-nighter to get this crap done: Is it possible to actually sleep on the Amtrak? That's how we're getting up there tomorrow.

Melville's obsession with Sailing/whaling.
Budd is a kid on a ship, the ship has troubles, pirates attack and there is mutiny but it is not exciting. There is a lot of talking but no character development. It is bad, much like Moby Dick is bad. And I love classic literature, give me Dickens, Shakespeare, Twain, Milton or even Hardy over the disaster that is Melville though.

Billy Budd is so BASIC. It's "Billy is good and Claggart is evil". SO. FRUSTRATING.
#9864

L<3ve

Oooh, that sounds exciting...not. Ditto the Melville thing. I just remembered that wonderful website called SparkNotes. My life has suddenly become easier!

Basic and ridiculous, blech

Dude.

It's a 100 page book, right? I read fifty pages of Billy Budd before I realized I didn't absorb a single word.

So I didn't read the rest. ^_^ I cliffnoted it. And it STILL sucked.

I love Hardy, by the way. GIVE ME MISERY IN JUDE THE OBSCURE. It made me happy in a sick sort of way.

I like Jude and Love Far from the Madding Crowd but my displeasure in reading Tess moves Hardy down for me.

Didn't read Tess. I'll remind myself not to...

But I love Jude to death. I just wanna give the poor guy a hug and say it'll be alright, but we all know it won't be, so you know. XD

hee. Raúl.

I was bored, and I'm not feeling very well so I don't want to do my work, so I pulled up the bookmark with my post from the film set and just re-read it. I do that sometimes. Now Halloween is playing on my shuffle. This was always the song that made me cry after that night.

Weird? I think so.
