It would, but it's so unrealisitc.
Oh, look... I see PM's.
TGIF, nice response.
Thanks! I...oh forget it..
*goes outside again*
Yes. This elicits absolutely NO understandable response from me, either.
I can see you all are stressing about this, but really, Adam would be foolish NOT to check this out if he got a call - check out the script, what the director has to say, who else they are casting. For all we know, he may only be willing to do it with a lot of the other original cast, or if certain parts of the story/script remain intact, or if changes are made to accommodate older characters.
I can say this as someone who works in the film industry (lowly crew position, but I hear a lot - though not about this particular project, I hasten to add.)
I'm more confused than "stressed." It just makes no sense, after all of the times he's said he wouldn't do it. *shrug*
I guess we can just wait... see if this is even true.
He said he wouldn't go back on stage with it, but this is really different. Aside from the chance to leave a lasting visual record of his performance, a major role in a major movie will sell more CD's than touring in clubs for ten years would. It can make such a huge difference in a performer's visibility.
Having said that, I have a feeling he is ambivalent about getting that much exposure and wouldn't do the movie if he didn't think it was going to be good.
And it may very well come to that; exposure. But... it just never really seemed like he cared all that much. We'll see, I guess. I'm still not sure I even believe the fact that he's in LA discussing this, but that's another story.
"It just makes no sense, after all of the times he's said he wouldn't do it. *shrug*"
I know he has said he wouldn't go back to the Broadway Cast of RENT unless somehow the OBC magically came together, but has he said it specifically in reference to the movie project? That probably merits a different consideration entirely.
It probably does warrant different consideration. Maybe. But then again, it's still RENT. I don't know. I give up.
Well, the interview where he stated specifically "not unless the OBC came back together," at least the one I remember, was the one from sometime back in 2000 or 2001 - definitely before the NYTW Reunion. I know he has also reiterated since then that he wouldn't go back to the Broadway RENT cast, but I don't recall him speaking about the RENT movie in particular. There's no way to know if that story posted about him being in LA is necessarily true, all I'm saying is if he is offered the role in future, it's not that impossible that he would consider it.
I still can't quite see the whole OBC coming back for it, just for the reason that I *still* don't think Daphne can pull off being 19 on screen, among other things. Not everyone can act for the screen and/or look good on camera, etc. So aiming for the whole OBC doesn't seem like something that would even be in the works.

*puts hand over mouth*
I'm going to play nice....
edit: that sounded like I was mad at you, amasis... came out wrong. I'll explain later.
Just saw a post on the IMDb saying Adam would be auditioning for Rent from someone claiming to have an in at the casting department. No way of knowing if this is the same person who posted here, of course.
This just keeps getting more and more interesting....

What is this rumor about him in LA? I didn't hear.
Anyway, I think I've said this ten billion times, but I can't resist ten billion and one.
Adam's career would be HUGELY boosted if he did a high-profile movie like this, he really can't afford to pass it up if he gets the chance. But the OBC did say they would feel wierd if it wasn't the whole gang, so it's possible they might not do it unless they could get a group. There is the undeniable fact that it's harder to pull off younger on screen than on stage, and Daphne couldn't.
I would love to see it because they are THE originals and they're great on the recording, but I don't see it happening. And to audiences who don't know or care about Rent, it doesn't matter if they created the roles, they'll just see 'too old'. The producers have to know that and will be keeping it in mind. The most likely thing, I think, is that they might all have little cameo roles.
hmmmm.
Yes I am more confused/shocked/surprised then stressing. I wont lose any sleep over this. Somehow the idea seems far fetched. But this is just me talking here.
Chloe - I agree. You can say anything on the internet. Until it comes from a verified source, you have to treat it with a healthy level of skepticism. And even IF it's true he's in LA, being in talks is still nowhere close to having it as a done deal. We'll just have to wait and see for a more trustworthy source to cover it.

insomniak, it's on the main board. Someone posted that Cybele told them that Adam's in LA right now talking to the directors.
*shrug*
And this is my undeniable (and I know it's bad...) elitism kicking in here, but I just... I don't want to lose him. Please don't flame me. I know it would be a good boost for his career. I'm just being stupid.
Hey all Just wanted to put my 2 cents in--
Yay for the OBC. They all should be included even if not in their 1996 roles. I would die a happy woman then.
Today I listened to me Rent CD's straight through, the first time in quite a while. It made me happy . Haha I sound like I'm in first grade or something. Anyways, now I'm listening to 'Will I?' on repeat, because I love that song to death. Gives me chills down my spine. It was also great to hear Adam sing Glory again

yes... skepticism. That's it.....
I should keep my mouth shut, I think.

If no one else will listen to what you want to say, I will, Emcee.
And I will believe it when I see it.
Noday, I love doing that. Rent doesn't get the heavy rotation that it used to a year ago, but I came back to it recently and it was like talking to an old friend. It always is like that when I go back and listen after being away for a while. It's a good feeling.
Ok no one flame me for this...
But the post on the main board does not read like the most reliable source...
I agree. RENT's not on the rotation like it was awhile ago. Now it's everything else. But I listened to RENT for the first time in months the night of the concert, and it just felt SO good! It was so refreshing, and it sounded so new! So, I'll probably listen to it again in a few weeks and have the same feeling.
I really don't like the idea of a RENT movie. I mean, it's SO great on stage, and I don't want the magic of it to be lost when it makes the change to screen. I really don't know how they'll do it. It might take a miracle...
Did you read the screenplay that was floating around the main board a while ago? If they use that script I have no issue with it...

I did and the song order was terrible, as were the cuts. They went into greater character detail, but at a price I wouldn't like to pay.
Diva, it may or may not be good. There is just no way to know and I'm going to give it a fair chance.
I will give it a chance, too, but I don't know. I hope they don't kill it. I did like that screenplay that was on the main board, but the cuts were pretty bad. The rest was okay.
*sigh* Well, if Adam's in it, or any of the OBC, actually, I'll be happy. As long as no teeney bopper pop stars are in it, I'm fine.
