if the obc is in the movie, i don't know what i'd do. it is upsetting that jon isn't here to supervise but if the obs is working on it then you know that they now the true value of the project and that they share jon's vision and helped shape the musical while working on it with him so that's comforting. but if they're in it....i would be freaking out throughout the movie, to see the obc sing all the songs...wow, if they do it well i think it can be really great. of course the other option is that it ruins it but it will never ruin the show and i think it has great potential, especially w/ the obc *so excited!*

The thing that people (I don't mean you guys, just in general) seem to be confusing is wanting to see the OBC do Rent *as it was in 1996* as opposed to seeing the OBC do Rent *now*. There's a big difference. I mean, sure, chemistry is chemistry, but things have changed between the folks who were a bit green around the ears and the people they are now. It's not a negative thing, but all of the actors are in different parts in their lives now.

I agree. I hope that they don't just drag up their '96 performances- I want to see that they've grown in their roles; Adam in particular because we know he wasn't a great actor. (Still isn't, but he's gotten better)

I read that post, and a feeling of relief swept over me. If it would make Jon proud, then I'm happy. And I'm glad it won't be a "candy-coated version of the story", and it'll actually be like it is.

I'm still skeptical about some of the casting, and some of the casting that's left to be done, but I guess I'd rather see the core of the OBC together instead of just, like, one or two of them. And if the OBC genuinely thinks this script will stay true to Jon's vision, and isn't just doing it for the international exposure, then I'm somewhat happier.

Oh, I just read your rant, and I agree. Some people will bash a a certain performer when that performer isn't around. But when the person shows up, they're like "OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOU'RE AWESOME", when we all know they've made comments such as "OH, why do you like him/her? (S)he is SO bad!"...... that drives me insane.

You're not crazy-- people can be total assholes and lie about their opinions because that person is around. That drives me crazy!
Example: If Jane (let's just say she's really famous) decided to join the board, all those "Jane haters" would immediately go "OMG, I love you SO much! You're my favorite actress" when there are countless threads of them saying how much they don't like her.
