TGIF--nonono, it's an older Maguire book. Much easier to read than Mirror, Mirror, in my opinion. But maybe that was just because I tried to read Mirror while we were studying that time period in Euro and that made it feel really weird...

Emcee, you do! You'll love it, I promise. I could make a mile long list of books for you, you're getting off lucky.

NTG, let us know when you get it together. What will you be singing for us?

Yes! Ok, I remember hearing about that one. Mirror Mirror was hard to get through, maybe because I kept trying to see some relations to the fairy tale and they weren't there. It was also made to be very historic which was .. well .. interesting. The ending was not what I expected and was disappointed by it.

Confession on the other hand was wonderful! I thought it was the best out of the 3 I read.

anyone read the Da Vinci Code? I read it in about 2 days. Talk about a page turner!

I did, TGIF. Have you read Dan Brown's other novels? I liked Angels and Demons (which is actually a DaVinci Code prequel of sorts) the best. Digital Fortress was great and Deception Point was alright.

I read Angels and Demons. I thought it was really good too. It was surprising as well as expected after reading The Code. Just because I knew going in that the ending would be very unexpected. Da Vince Code was the easiest read for me. I dont know if that means its the best, but it took more for me to pick up the book to read Angels & Demons. I really liked both concepts though. I am not a fan of the Catholic Church (personal reasons/experiences) so things like this always capture my attention.

Also, the character "Teabings" in The Code - my mother kept calling him "Tea bags." Oy.

Angels and demons AND the Da Vinci Code were both great. Though it did get a little boring towards the middle of the da vinci code...They were both still really good! ^__^

Nope, can't say I have. I really do need to read more. Maybe over winter break...

Mitch Albom, TGIF. He also wrote Tuesdays With Morrie.

Emcee, read it. NOW. It's short, it'll take like an hour or two.

Ill keep it in mind. I always wanted to read A Clockwork Orange. It seems like one of those must reads. How was it?

A Clockwork Orange... hm

It's very difficult to start reading because a lot of the language is made-up. A good deal of the book is slang that makes the story hard to follow until you get used to reading it and figure out what it means. The story is on the disturbing side, with a rapist and murderer as the protagonist, but I would advise reading it. It poses a lot of good questions about freedom of choice and what measures are too extreme when reforming a criminal. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Give it a few chapters to warm up.

Yeah, my mother had to read it in HS and she said that her copy of it had its own dictionary in the back with all the slang.

That's useful. Mine didn't, but I figured it out. Also, make sure you've got a newer one. The last chapter was not originally published in the US, but it's since been included.

I only scanned the last 2 pages of the thread... who was reading 'Memoirs of the Geisha' - was it you, insomniak? I thought the details in that were fascinating, but I can't say I'm in love with the book. I'm interested to see how the movie will turn out, though.

Yep, I'm about a third of the way through. I love the style it's written in, though I wish it had more of a clear direction. I think Chiyo/Sayuri's reasons for wanting to become a geisha are a bit thin and obviously contrived by the author. It's definetly interesting to read about geisha in so much detail, though.

NoDayButToday2 says hi A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

she also said to tell you that she's sorry she hasn't been around much, but hasn't forgetten you (and misses you dearly), she's just been swamped with voice lessons and meeting people places etc... She says 'at first I was going mad not knowing what was happening here, but I think I've finally managed to break the habbit and devote more time to my work... haha, makes it soud like I'm in drug rehab or something...' She's quite the popular teacher nowadays... Anyways just thought you might like to hear what she's been up to lately A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

Here in this cold white room tied up to these machines, it's hard to imagine life as it used to be. Laughing, screaming, tumbling queen... Like the most amazing light show you've ever seen. Whirling, swirling, never blue... How could you go and die? What a selfish thing to do... RIP Jason

Angels & Demons, Digital Fortress, and DVC are amazing books. I think I enjoyed Digital Fortress the most, actually...

Ooh, tell NoDay that we miss her!
