Damn, I'd just written a nice long post, when my computer crashed.
First of all, you're welcome, jen, and I'm sorry I didn't see your last post before - didn't scroll down enough.
Emcee, I'm not sure you ever expressed that about the "community of RENT" before, so thanks for that. Even if you hadn't gotten to experience it first hand, all the stuff I've been reading about actors hanging out on the set regardless of whether they're needed is some indication that this isn't just another movie, either.
I hate when that happens!
Anyway, exactly. I keep seeing pictures of them all out, watching everything on the monitors and meeting fans, and I'm happy to see that that's all still going on. It seems really atypical, but speaks volumes for the fact that it's going to work out. I'm not sure how, but it does. I guess it just speaks to the notion that hearts really are pouring into this, in the best possible way, just like they did in the first place. That's just what they need for this to be perfect.
To elaborate the community thing, since it's basically been an abstraction I sort of alluded to when I posted in the first place about going to the set, I'd never seen more than two original cast members together. From what I've seen and heard, since I never saw them live, the sparks they all had together on stage have never been there like they were then with any other cast that came after. It's all still there, and it's a feeling that radiates from just watching them or being around them. That moment where we were standing inside that school with Adam, Anthony, Jesse and Wilson... that's something I never, ever thought I'd do the first time I stepped into the Nederlander. Seeing them all together, and witnessing those proverbial sparks fly almost ten years later was so beautiful. You couldn't help but feel the warm fuzzies. But RENT is really about relationships and community, and to feel that sort of comraderie and love in the place where it's actually supposed to take place was so special.
Anyone here, go immediately to this CB thread and look at Sophie's description of the filming of "Without You." It's so powerful.

Can anyone remind me where Nia went? Thanks!
She'll be back tomorrow. Thespian competition, I believe.

No problem, Ellie!
Thanks so much, Chloe. I just read that to myself, then out loud to etheb because she's sitting here with me. I almost cried. I hope it's as intense as it sounds. God, it needs to be November.
And thanks for your previous post, Emcee, that I didn't see when I was putting up my link. Your description of the OBC "sparks" finally made that whole idea real to me.
Sophie's post is the first description I've read of a real scene, as opposed to a little part of a scene (though this is apparently just a piece of the song). It does sound so intense, and so right.
I agree about without you. I have a feeling that the film is going to turn out to be something much more powerful than i thought. I just really hope that rent's message reaches a wider audience.
*drools at the perfection that this scene sounds like it is*
When Adam acts angry and acts it WELL (NOT like he did in AIDA) - like in Chess, it's great. Watching him do it, when done right... *shrug* I kind of find it a turn-on because he's just so intense. Sadistic, huh?
I'd say more like masochistic, but they kind of go together. :-P
Anger can be pretty sexy, of course, maybe because it feels closely related to passion. I have a private theory about actors and emotions, which I haven't examined too closely, so it may all be bull****. Anyway, I feel that actors can only fully and freely express emotions that they are not hung up about, so if Adam can act anger well, it's because he's basically *not* an angry person. Does that make any sense?
Right, passionate anger when it's not geared at you.
That makes sense. Definitely makes sense. So does the sado=masochistic pairing...
Well this has been a fun night! I'm going to be good to myself and get off before it gets too late... and maybe dream of Without You. Have a good night, and don't forget to put your clocks forward.
Good night! Thanks for keeping me sane while I read about the history of sugar. ha.
bump because we're on the verge of page two.
Oh, and Not Me just came on iTunes. Fitting.
i have a question about the new adam hair... is it a wig? thats what somebody told me and if it is, it sure is a hot wig and i would pay anything to buy it :)
Yeah, it's a wig.
Dead serious.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! that means the long hair is going to be back... oh man i was so happy last night.
does anyone know when in the movie, besides flashbacks, does roger have short hair?
Well, no. It was to be a wig because he still has to shoot the majority of the movie, most of which is stuff that takes place during the time period of the show. The short blonde hair is only for the flashbacks. If you look back a few pages, Chloe and I had a really good discussion about Roger's image, and how that's going to play into the movie.
Alright, I am defiantly an Adam fan but for some reason I did not know (well I didn’t remember) that he was in School Of Rock but I recently got Tivo and it now tells me when Adam is in something and its on demand! *squeee* I’m soooo happy! Sorry I just had to share my happiness with someone and I knew you all would understand!
Well I'm off
*waves excitedly*
yay, you're visiting us!
Tivo = fabulous(ity).
