Okay Mamie, this post deserves its own then I may comment on something else.
The biggest part of my visit is to visit my bestestest friend in the world. First off, she's not seeing two shows w/ me in 3 days lol. But that's not even the point (and how dare call rent a waste of time, hrmph!)
See...it's...well before I even get to her, you gotta understand I was at GW for 6 weeks...I made 4 extremely close life-long friends...I rarely talk to them b/c they're two stressed but when we do talk we always say I love you at the end(I joke that I converted them to Judaism) and w/ all of them I share a very deep bond and connection, diff. from any friendships I've ever had(oh and one of them was my roomie btw
But Meera..I mean...we clicked right away, from the first week we'd start having really long discussions instead of doing our hw, and ya know she would tell me more than anyone else and...especially after me having my meltdown, she was the only one who had to see me in that state who as soon as I left called me and still ya know didn't need time to recover from me(another friend of mine, one of the 4 who didn't really see me in that state, called me everyday for 2 weeks to see how I was, god I love them all...) And now we're at a point where...think of a couple or husbands and wives or ya know ppl who share the deepest love possible...take out the "romance" and physical attraction and that's me and Meera. We actually call each other soulmates(the term does not have to mean one romantic lover if you think about it)...
So she obviously knows how important bway is to me...she's very excited to see Wicked well b/c I sang it and made her and others listen to it a lot but I keep telling her how amazing it is and Rent well...we've been trying to get her to NY to see that w/ me to no avail. We'd have these convos that would start w/ so this is my day and an hour later we'd be discussing the purpose of life. when she asked me this, I threw out "measure your life in love." She started thinking about how amazingly profound and true that is and we talked about it and I threw out more Rent themes and when I explained they all came from Rent we both knew she'd love it, so since she can't see the show, she's settling for the movie but it's just...she knows she has to see it w/ me. She can't see it any other way.
I dunno, I mean...if you think about a "soulmate" in a romantic context, someone that amazing would(well in my case better) want to understand and experience things I love and mean a lot to me and that's how it is w/ this, and we're so excited to get Wicked and Rent in 2 days(those were the 2 I talked about and listened to all the time) so...god you all have no idea how excited I am to see her, I haven't seen her since I stayed w/ her back in may for a couple of days.
So I'm sure Damn Yankees is amazing, but I couldn't possibly see it. And even though I will be seeing Rent movie for the 4th time, it's gonna be so special being able to see it and finally share the story and music w/ her.
Ulgh, I wish I was a lesbian!
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
