Here's a nice surprise: I have tickets to DRS and Landscape of the Body tomorrow. I remembered the latter but the former had totally escaped me. I reached in my ticket envelope to pull out my email and saw a DRS ticket sitting there with tomorrow's date on it.
Yay...
I'll post reviews late Sunday/early Monday... I think I have a ticket to the closing show for Landscape of the Body, actually.
ETA: I had a ticket to the original closing night. Apparently it extended an extra week.

Wish I was seeing DRS tomorrow : You lucky thing
Trying to figure out what the heck to sing for the auditions for Oklahoma on Tuesday. I don't have any money to buy more piano accompaniments, but I really think "Here I Am" would be great (I kinda wanna be Ado Annie). Teehee "Oklahoma" from DRS would be funny, but probably not appropriate
I saw DRS last night. So everyone go to the last page of the slideshow, cause wooo it's me! .
ps. Greg is f*cking awesome.
OMG LIZ. I'VE NEVER SEEN YOU WITH YOUR HAIR DOWN.
That is all.
nerdy freshman and cute junior!

DRS May 17th Matinee
SPOLIERS THROUGHOUT.
My friend (my best friend, Pauline) and I won the lotto for the matinee on Wed. My name was called first and then hers. (I told her that one reason why I keep coming back to do the lotto is because of the lotto guy’s accent. She agreed with me later). We got the tickets then went to China town for a $5 lunch, which was fantastic. (I’ll skip ahead to the interesting part).
We sat on the left side of the theatre if you are looking at the stage. (I recommend the right side; you can see everything better from there). It was the second box, and it was sort of hard to see because of the speakers.
Everything was going great. I tried to give Greg an entrance applause, but it failed. It was just me and my friend had told me before that she would not clap because she didn’t wanted to look foolish. I should tell you know that this was her second Broadway show ever. Her first was Spamalot with my parents and me. GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT was great. I concentrated more on the ensemble because there were two guys that didn’t look familiar. I did notice that Jonathan couldn’t get his bowtie undone fast enough. It was funny.
It was weird not seeing Joe at the Roulette table, but Will Erat was very good. And Rachel! I really liked her. I thought she gave Muriel more character and more life than Joanna did. And I loved Joanna! I couldn’t see her singing WHAT WAS A WOMAN TO DO. The balcony was hidden from view from us. But when Laura came down the aisle, my friend thought that was hysterical. Jason Gillman was in for Norbert, which was sad but he was better than when I saw him last.
Oh, when Jonathan was getting ready to get on the train, for the first time I saw Greg holding a policeman’s hat while reading him the paper. Has he done that before?
You could tell that Lenore and Renee were played by someone else. It says Jennifer Foote played them but I don’t know. She looked different than her picture in the program. I don’t know. She did a great job though.
GREAT BIG STUFF was alright. What can I say? Jason was good but I did miss Norbert. Although, I like how Jason said “I just want somebody to love me..” Like he was completely serious.
CHIMP IN THE SUIT was great. I should tell you here that my best friend is French so watching Greg make fun of the French and watching her reactions were great. She loved it. Lol. Jason should his ass, and Pauline could not believe that. But it was great.
Sara is back now. I do love her singing and definitely her shrieking in OKLAHOMA?, but I will miss Mylinda’s acting. I thought Mylinda had a great drawn out Southern accent, seemed slow but wasn’t. It seemed that Sara speeds up her lines. But that is what I think. Oh, when all the ensemble came out and they get in that long line that puts Jonathan in his seat; Jonathan didn’t get back in time to sit down. That was funny. Right at the end of the song, when they put the big cowboy hat on Jonathan, they put it a bit far. It went right over his eyes and he didn’t bother to change it. It looked hilarious! Then I thought whoever had to put it on John must have had to stand on their tiptoes just to get it on. Right before “freckle on skin” line, Jonathan tried to escape but Sara wouldn’t let him.
Scene right after OKLAHOMA? was great as usual. Best part was when Jonathan was admiring his ass. He kept shaking it and rolling his waist, and making the audience go crazy. (BTW, they weren’t the best audience but it was pretty packed for a matinee.) To see a man like that at his age (and to think him as a proper Englishman), is incredible. Fantastic.
Ruprecht scene was great! When Jonathan introduced Jolene to Freddy, Jason was playing with his bellybutton and had his hands on his hips. Jonathan took it to mean that he was saying hello, so he copied him and also put his hands on his hips and said hello back to him then to Jolene. When Jonathan told Jolene to say hi, Jolene also did the hands-near-bellybutton-and -wave. It was hysterical. I think Jonathan cracked a few grins that he tried to control. He also sang Jason Rock-a-bye-baby and tried to corner him.
Rachel was great. I think she is better in the other songs than this one. Or at least her high notes are better in the others. Tim with the dog bag was great. Pauline thought it was hilarious! Man, I love that guy.
When Rachel was talking to Jason, right when he was about to say “Oh my god, me too,” he snorted. That was funny.
NOTHING IS TOO WONDERFUL TO BE TRUE was good, as usual. Nothing really different or funny went on.
Ok, this is the best part. RUFFHOUSEN MIT SCHUFFHAUSEN was probably the best this time then the others. Jonathan picked up Jason’s leg and took the shoe off. Then he raised the pants leg a little too far. Underneath the pants, it was clear to everyone that there was something else. And Jonathan did not try to cover it up. It was black elastic. Jonathan asked “Is there something you are trying to hide from us?” while he kept pulling it back and letting it hit Jason’s leg. Jason covered his mouth but you could see he was trying to hold it in. (I think it was part of the knee pads he had to wear). When Jonathan took out the feather and tickled his foot, Jason tried his hardest not to let out a laugh. Pauline found that hysterical (mainly cause that is the only place you can tickle her). Well, Jonathan got the stick and did the whip stuff and the audience was laughing and Jason was trying to keep it in. Then it got to the part when he had to leave. He did the violin thing, then stopped looked out at the audience with such an evil look on his face, but smiling, hair messed up. Then stood up straight and pretended someone was looking for him off stage so went to see what they wanted. Still looked out at the audience again and did the arm thing and the hand waving at the end. So funny. Then, when he was saying that he had a villa and he would take Freddy there to really get to work on him, Jonathan slid the stick up Jason’s leg, not forgetting it slid it right up against the crouch. Jason jumped a little.
LIKE ZIS/LIKE ZAT was fantastic. I was really glad to see Rachel sing and dance. Oh, right before hand, when Greg was begging Jonathan not to be left behind, you could see Greg kept his hands far away from the doors when they closed.
When Rachel and Jonathan got to the villa, Jonathan went up the stairs and Rachel said “Gorgeous” and Jonathan had his back to the audience and said “Ja, I work out.” and rubbed his ass again. Good stuff.
THE MORE WE DANCE was fantastic, as usual. Dancing was great. Kiss was really long between Jonathan and Rachel. I think he really meant it when Jonathan said “Yep” in reply to Rachel’s “Was that alright?” It was weird to hear Will Erat as the sailor and not Joe, but he was still great.
LOVE IS MY LOVE was incredible, as Amanda would put it, “eargasmic.” Rachel hitting that high note is just incredible. Pauline even thought so. This time when Jonathan came out, he didn’t come out from the choir, he walked in from the right side of them behind the wall. Maybe cause he didn’t get there in time? I’m not sure. Liz, what did he do when you saw the show?
Greg coming out right when Jonathan and Jason were talking was awesome! Pauline found that hysterical! And I started an applause for him! Yay!
LOVE SNEAKS IN was awesome as usual. And I don’t know who took over for Andrew’s little part as the baggage guy. I want to say Matt Wall but not sure.
SON OF GREAT BIG STUFF was just the same as always. The audience loved when Jason pulled out the candlestick.
RECKONING was hysterical! Pauline turned to me as soon as she saw Rachel come and run off.
DIRTY ROTTEN NUMBER was great. Used low notes instead of high notes at the end. I think they have changed that for good, although, it doesn’t sound as good. Pauline also found it hysterical when Rachel came out as Paula. I thought it was hilarious when Rachel said “I cleared over $5 million last year…” then Jonathan yelled out “What?!?!” going to miss that man.
A lot of the balcony gave them a standing ovation for the last three actors (I stood up near the beginning). Orchestra didn’t really stand at all. Sad. I think I saw Alan Thicke in the audience. It looked like he signed a playbill then had one of the ushers give it back to the person.
Anyway, stage door. Pauline and I were like the first out. Greg, before when I emailed him, said he couldn’t do a backstage tour because he had a parent meeting at his son’s school. But we waited for him to come out anyway. While we were waiting, people were coming out of the stage door and I wasn’t really looking; I was reading the playbill and Pauline was reading the pamphlet in Japanese (she’s taking that at school). Anyway, I don’t think a lot of people were watching the stage door, because all of a sudden, I hear people saying “Gene Wilder’s over there.” Seriously, everyone turned their heads and we saw Gene Wilder just walk down the street. Turns out that he came out of the stage door. Replacement? I doubt it. He is in his 70s. Sad. So, he came and left. Then we both went back to reading our stuff and then Greg came out. I told Pauline that I knew him and she didn’t believe me, but she only told me that later. Anyway, he went to the right side first then walked over to the left. He saw me, called out my name and gave me a big hug. I felt so special. We chatted and he signed then left. We heard Jonathan was going to come out so we left. Later, Pauline told me she didn’t believe me but when he called out my name and gave me a hug, she couldn’t believe it. Haha. Showed her. She also said that if you imagine Jonathan in his costume and wig from Pirates From the Caribbean, it is so much funnier. I think that is one reason why she decided to come: she loves the Pirates movie and of course, Jonathan was in it. But overall, she did really like it.
I think that is about it. Good performance by all, missed Norbert. But hope to see it with him and Jonathan before they go (still haven’t seen them together). Long enough post?
Now it's your turn Liz.

.. "tried to give Greg an entrance applause, but it failed. It was just me and my friend had told me before that she would not clap because she didn’t wanted to look foolish."
I gave him an enterance applause, just me, I was clapping so hard I didn't relize that I was the only one clapping. It was so embarrassing, everyone was looking at me.. (put paper bag over face) ok, that's better.

Andd. The last time I saw Jason he snorted on the train scene.
It was funny... I guess.
I would perfer Norbert. Obviously.

I just got home. DRS this afternoon was good as usual. Norbert was out, but Jason did a good job (the audience warmed up to him as the show went on definately). Still, I would think that's really hard trying to fill in for that part. One funny moment- Jason almost humped Jonathan off the bed at the beginning of Ruprecht. Jonathan was holding onto the floor for dear life and trying to hold himself up.
I had one of the rear mezz seats and moved all the way down to front mezz row A at intermission, the mezz was that empty. It made me sad. But I do like being able to see things...
I also saw Landscape of the Body. It was great. You could feel the audience giving a "WTF???" in unison at intermission, but the show resolves itself in the end. Sherie just commands the audience's attention- and the minimalist orchestrations were georgeous (I'd heard previous versions only had a piano).
So yeah, a good (but long) day of theatre. Tomorrow night a friend and I are going to see Patti LuPone at the Beaumont. Woo-Hoo!
Wow! So nice to see 3 people saw DRS this week! I am interested in seeing Liz's review now.
I happened to see Da Vinci Code today. Overall, it was an excellent adaptation and film with a few minor changes to make it interesting. I didn't care for Tom Hanks as Robert langdon but everyone else was perfect. I thoroughly recommend it.
Jean Reno and Paul Bettany are incredible in that movie. love them! oh and Sir Ian McKellan (sp).
Tom Hanks......nah.
I was a bit annoyed they changed Langdon's personality to conform more to Tom Hank's mannerisms but overall, he did a solid job. I did like it how they allowed for Angels and Demons to take place, except now I see it more as a sequel than a prequel.
