Hey guys. What's shaking?
Fat man in a G-string.
could anybody PLEASE tell me...
WHY WAS THERE A BLIZZARD TODAY?
not a REAL blizzard, of course. but, i looked outside of the classroom around 9:30, and it was SNOWING LIKE CRAZY. and it's APRIL!
and wierd thing was, that it just...went away! and now it's spring again.
mother nature is having WAY too many mood swings, haha
Cat, first of all, that is a fat man in a G string AFTER he jumped out of a box.
And second of all, you dun stole dat from da Sherie thread biotch!
totally not mary! that picture started here, with the first thread. don't have the link for it, but it totally was there before the sherie thread.
jamie, that is really weird. nothing like that here in PA.
hey rya, haven't seen you here for a while.
Thank you for that...icon, Blu. I am now traumatized.
Hey Dre. Sorry I have have been so busy. I have to get my second book ready for my editor by Tuesday. That means going over 152,000 words (345 pages on works). So, thats been occupying me. Hopefully, the book will be out in a month or two or so Plus, I need to design a flash site for my books. Mister Ryan shall be busy for the next week or two. Plus, I need to upgrade NLBOnline but I am waiting for Norbert to email me details. Arrrghhh...No rest for the weary.
Nope I did indeed steal it from sherie thread...Fat man in a g-string was a resident of Greg thread, BUT fat man in a G-string after jumping out of a box, although only subtly different, is indeed an original occupant of the long suffering Sherie thread.
Thus, concludes Catherine's history lesson of the day. Stay tuned tomorrow for an indepth analysis of the noble, nomadic vikings of the Hanlon thread.
We're vikings now?
I want a helmet.
I dunno I'm still not convinced you even know who Hanlon is as of yet...
Okay, I'm well rested now
(I started earlier but paused for dinner)
Now this is mainly copied from a response I made to my friend who gave more of a summary of the evening, so I'm editing it to try to get that in there, but it may seem pretty unorganized because of that. Sorry.
So, the only time I've seen Adam Pascal sing live was from the balcony of Aida years ago and the one time at the Elvis Costello concert. So I was very excited.
When he came out and smiled and said hi to the crowd, I even said out loud "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god." Like, this was really happening. It just hit me. Most of you should know I'm a bit more composed ordinarily, so this really was a big deal.
I mean, as a performer, he just has an amazing charisma, stage presence, everything. His smile melt the room, and the honesty and realness in him came out, and really the whole night I just thought that I can't believe I'm really there, seeing this. For those of you not too familiar with him but who should be, if you watch his interviews and just see him, he's always extremely honest and real...doesn't put on a perfect actor image, when he talks you know you're getting truthful answers, so that's something I really admire about him.
His rendition of Maybe This Time from Cabaret was fantastic! As the first Broadway music I ever heard in my life, the songs from Cabaret hold a special place in my heart, and boy did Adam deliver! As he went into the verses, he kept going higher and you could see the feeling in the song in his face. It was just great.
And Maria...fortunately, no mention of disliking West Side Story(in other concerts I read about, he explained why he made his own rendition, he heard Billy Porter make one and that inspired him, but he doesn't necessarily like the musical...you guys know my feelings about WSS so that would have upset me but he didn't say anything about WSS so I was happy), but...an amazing song and an amazing performance. His high note at the end was gorgeous, and the passion with which he sang the "Marias" in the middle, even in the jazz version was just...amazing.
Umm, he didn't understand the excitement of him taking off his jacket...
One Song Glory was his first encore...which of course, just...wow...I noticed he flipped pages on a stand so he had words handy. Heh. Some things don't change. (I think it's on the Rent...documentary? that he talks about the staging of One Song Glory in Rent being based on the fact that he always had to end up back on the table so he could read the lyrics posted on the side for him. I'm glad he was able to make it a bit more his own, while totally staying true to the song and the character.
And I really loved What I Did For Love, his final encore, from A Chorus Line. It's a great song, and throw in his voice and passion, and I think just the meaning...it was a great way to end the concert.
Then he did a brief Q&A after. When we went in, we were told we could put a question into a box. I was tempted, but couldn't think of anything good that didn't have to do with desserts. So he came back out with one of the coordinators who asked the questions. Let's see, he was asked what he does to warm up his voice(drinks a lot of water and demonstrated some of his warm-ups...mee mee mee mee mee mee mee mee mee), is he anything like Roger in Rent (no...only similarity is their passion for music), his feelings on the movie (he was very etchy about the idea but loved how it turned out and talked very strongly about how the most successful works are not necessarily the most profitable), what his shoe size is(10) and boxers or briefs(boxer briefs)...was a little perplexed at the questions, knowing their hidden meaning...haha...and what advice he would give aspiring actors(audition well. I laughed b/c I know he's said in the past and he said last night he's not a good auditioner but you could be extremely talented but you won't get anywhere if you don't audition well, and vice-versa. See this is what I mean by the honesty...he started to say the one thing I would say and I was expecting...go to college, be yourself, follow your heart, etc...but he says audition well.
So then he sat down at a table for the meet and greet, we were told he'd be there for an hour. We were hoping to try to be last, though that didn't work out as he was starting to rush, but anyway...
My friend who has met him a lot was freaking out. I know she gets nervous, but I never saw her like that. My other 2 friends were also nervous, in a more quiet way, so I kept trying to calm her down. I also kept running over to see how the signing was going...he was asking everyone their names, taking pictures, and signing whatever. This made my friend laugh b/c he didn't know her name and wondered how he'd go about asking. I said maybe he'll ask how to spell your name, but she said he's probably not that quick logical thinking like me. Oh well, poor Adam.
Unfortunately, when we were like 5 ppl away(after hearing there was 15 minutes left, we got on the line) I started getting nervous, which apparently I was supposed to be the not nervous one so that wasn't a good sign.
Anyway, I knew this would happen. My friend who he knows by now went first and he was so warm and inviting--he was like Hey!! You drove all the way up to see me?? I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt that he's directionally confused and doesn't think we live in Florida...we drove down, not up.
But he asked her how she was, and seemed genuinely appreciative that we made the drive. Made it a point to really thank us, and was really concerned if we enjoyed ourselves and such, since we made the drive. We assured him it was well worth it
He talked to my friend a bit more...she was on cloud 9, but didn't ask her name. It's really funny. On everyone else's including mine, he wrote "To [insert name], much love, Adam Pascal. On hers he just wrote All my love, Adam Pascal. We laughed b/c we knew he was too embarassed to ask her name, but she was fine w/ it b/c she was special enough to get something different. (Yes Traci there are people who rival me with their specialness...hrmph).
So I got to the table I suppose more nervous than I expected. I wasn't expecting him to remember/recognize me from the Costello concert but when I got there he was like Hi! How ARE you? And then told me he's sorry, he forgot my name(which I'm pretty sure I never told him), and I was just pretty shocked/taken aback that I very weirdly said, kind of shaking and muttering...You...remember...me...from...the...Costello...concert? And he took a minute and then said yes, of course! I'm thinking maybe he recognized my face but not especially like where. He was so sweet, and showing any sign of knowing he's seen me/met before just made my night, but also put me into that shaking/muttering state. Ulgh, again, for anyone who knows me well enough/has seen me in person, if you saw me there shaking and talking like that, you would be laughing your asses off.
Anyway, that was so unbelievable and his smile, and he's so sweet and I'm sorry this is getting to be very badly constructed sentences with bad grammar, but that's my state right now.
Oh, then well I'll show you guys which picture I printed for him, it's my absolute favorite picture of him...and he saw it and kind of commented on it, like...I was still in a weird state so I can't remember his tone but he said something like ohh, an old headshot? I think the tone was a bit of surprise just b/c it was random and prob the only pic of that he signed of the night. I was still in a just...nervous/shaky/surreal state so I had to take a moment, and then was like ohh yeah, it's..my favorite picture of you. My cheeks must have been pretty red when I said that...But my friend thinks his reaction to that was something like in his head..."god, I'm so beautiful." There's a running joke about him thinking that...at symphony space, he mentioned how he couldn't help watching himself the whole time, and Anthony replied well of course, you'd love to date yourself, so Adam said why yes, I'm quite handsome. So I wouldn't be surprised if that is what he thought.
I'll try to take a picture of my autographed photo to post it.
And then he thanked us again for coming. Oh, I think I mustered in a "you-were-great-BTW" at the end. One of these days I gotta remember to say that first...
Oh, and finally just a few comments on the "special" audience. I mean, the expected...big Rent fans, screaming, etc. But first...Maybe This Time was the third song he sung and these 3 girls in front of us were talking the whole time! I'm the kind of person who gets very distracted by these things and I was getting really pissed. I even leaned over to ask them to be quieter during songs. I think that did something, they weren't completely silent, but didn't talk as much after that.
Someone screamed out for him to sing "Suddenly Seymore." Random much.
Ohh, gotta insert again. He did some joking/talking between his songs. But one of his lines was amazing, he commented that at this college, there was a lot of barbed wire. Then he asked if that was to keep the students in or the Hisidic Jews out? (He's Jewish). Now I live in a county where there's a town right nearby that is all Hisidic Jews, plus I'm Jewish myself, so I was laughing hysterically.
But after that, this woman 2 seats down from me said "good thing there aren't any Jewish people here." Now, this is a Catholic school? So maybe that's why she said that? But still, Adam's Jewish!! I mean...I just looked at her and said...yes there are...and she got this nervous look on her face and said were you offended by the joke and I said no I laughed the hardest and she laughed and said oh good...but I don't know. Even if it is a Catholic school, it was open to the public...and to think/assume there's no Jews there just seems very odd to me.
Umm, in the beginning he talked about how one of the reasons for doing this tour is so he could integrate all of his music--his own music, covers, and musical theatre--mentioned how he always tried to get away from his musical theatre roots but has grown up.
He commented that everyone here is girls...or gay guys, right?
And he got really personal with some things. He mentioned writing his second record, "Civilian." He wrote it after the attacks on September 11, but also then his first son was born. So it was a very emotional time for him, but the resulting CD is amazing.
That all aside, it was just...a FANTASTIC night. Adam is just an amazing performer who could take your mind away from everything but him. He's so great.
I'm considering asking Greg what his shoe size is...then asking him if he's ever been asked that before.
Oh, one more thing. I'm assuming Traci's the only one here that knows his albums well enough to care about those songs? If anyone else does or is interested, let me know, I'll list those that he sung as well.
Cat: I am in love with your avatar! Though I hated that movie it was well worth watching for Alan.
I do TOO know who Hanlon. He invented Hanes underwear, right?
I love that movie, such a guilty pleasure, Parker Posey was great in it, too...
Hmm, well he didn't invent them, but I'm sure his butt gives a whole new meaning to them...
I really do know who Hanlon is though.
*drools*
I need to see that show...
Hey Amanda, I saw your boy Gerald in Tomb Raider 2 the other day. I knew he seemed familiar.
hahaha. that is funny.
Hi guys. Is anybody watching the cam? Is it updating for you?
Mamie, I just sent Barb an email asking if the cam is frozen. I had gotten an email from Greg but can't see him.
Malki
My feeling is that it hasn't updated since Jack was in there. Even Jonathan's door has remained closed. That can't be right.
Barb says that it must be a glitch on his end. Either software or the server is overloaded in the theater. Only time will tell.
Thanks Malki.
*tries to hold herself back*
Gerald? Gerald?? GERALD???
Get my name wrong/spell my name wrong. NOT HIS!
Doing so is illegal.
And yeah, that's another crappy movie that it's nice to watch him in. Ending sucks, but the shirtless scene w/ Angelina is fun
Mamie, how are you doing these days?
Hi Amanda. I'm OK. (Been better......definitely been worse!) I'm just awful tired. We have beautiful flowering trees all over the place here, and I'm allergic to all of them! So between that and antihistamines and working too long, I'm just tired.
I hope you (and all here) are well and enjoying this snowy start to spring!
well, how do you spell his name then amanda?
