I always wanted to be like the other posters and start an official thread. Latkes are a wonderful treat eaten at Chanukah. I make mine from scratch and grate the potato and onion by hand. Believe me, it is hard on the knuckles. Latkes are also good made with sweet potatoes. The are traditionall served with applesauce or sour cream. Yum!

Potato latkes are one of the great pleasures of life! I've never had sweet potato latkes, but I'll bet they're terrific!

I make kasha varnishkes quite often and it is my favorite side dish. My mother always made it when I was a child. It is actually buckwheat which is a very healthy but tasty grain.

Aww, my grandma always used to make "kasha and bows" when I was little. Good stuff.

Oh, I cannot wait for Chanukah!

Every year I forget about latkes.

Then Chanukah comes and I think, "Ooo, Latkes!"

Then the cycle begins again.

"Now what is it I love about Chanukah?"

...

...

...

"Ooo, latkes!"

Crispy, fluffy Latkes w sour cream- DEE lish!
My fav food tho is kishka. Basically bread crumbs ( some times cornflake crumbs) with spices and fat and stuffed into a casing and cooked in the oven. Disgusting sounding isn't it? But I love it w gravy!

Sweet potato latkes can be made the same way as regular ones but leave out the onion and add a dash of cinnamon.
