Did you know he was going to be there or was it a surprise?

I'm sure it meant a lot to him to be able to have a normal conversation with his fans. Without pictures being taken and things like that. That way you and he were on the same level and he didn't have to "stick out" like a star. Or something.

It's late. I know what I'm trying to say but can't say it.

Yea, I think that's why he was so willing to talk and didn't just say "thank you," but actually continued the conversation by asking questions. Contact like that definately gives you a better connection and feels more special than handing a pen back and forth.

I felt a little awkward though, not saying anything.

ETA: It was a surprise that he was there! It makes sense though, since his wife works for Friends in Deed. She was there with him. I think wqr first spotted him and was like, "turn around. look that way." When I saw him, I literally jumped a little.

No, it was a TOTAL surprise. I was upstairs and Alix called me. I saw her over the balcony, and she was trying to tell me he was there, but all I heard was "..... is here!" so I went downstairs. She and skittles were still whispering about him, and pointed him out, but I still didn't know WHO I was looking at from the back. Then he turned around and saw me staring, just as I was finally realizing who they were so excited about!

I get what you're saying, g. And I honestly hope that's what I'm starting to be able to give off -- not just wanting tangible things from them. And we were just talking to him like a normal person, but people *did* start to hover waiting to ask for autographs. He just seemed to really care about connecting with us, especially after skittles mentioned TTB.

What a wonderful surprise!

Aw. I'm sure he's used to the staring. And I'm sure he didn't mind signing autographs for people. But I do think he appreciated just being able to chat with you girls.

What did you guys talk about?

Oh, and it does make sense now that I think about it. Friends in Deed.

He babbled about Sondheim some, which was cute -- he said they're not sure if he's going to play an instrument in Company yet, but that he knows how to play both piano and guitar. He said his parents used not to like Sondheim very much, until he started doing his stuff often.

Skittles said something about The Normal Heart, and I smiled and was like "THAT was the first thing I ever saw you in," since he had asked her if Chitty was the first thing she saw him in a bit before. He was like "it's kinda different from Chitty, huh?!"

How sweet!

I think he should play guitar!

I'm SO anxious to see him in Company! It's kind of silly how excited I am.

He blows me away how sweet he is. It's almost like I forget how kind he can be. I really hope I get to see him next weekend at some point. I never got to thank him for signing my book!

I forgot the way his eyes get when he's really passionate about something. He was sitting down, so I was looking down at him, and he kept looking from one of us to the other. They're just such an unusual color, I couldn't stop looking at them.

They are!

His eyes are so unique in the way that they hold your attention. It's impossible to look away. It also can feel kind of invading, though. Not many people look that deeply and intensely into another's eyes during conversation.

I'm glad you had such a great chat with him. What a sweet, sweet man. :)

Heh, that was a nice surprise and just soo funny. I knew Alix was a big Raul fan and OS told me a couple minutes earlier she was, so the 3 of us(and possibly Liotte?) were kinda in a circle standing and chatting in the back of the theatre and in the back of my head I thought hmm maybe famous/cool ppl will be here tonight. And then there's Raul walking right toward us, and I mean I was suprised but not quite...I don't wanna say struck...like there's prob more ppl I would be excited about but I knew Alix and OS would flip so I did say ya know turn around look over there to no avail, Alix I had to push in diff. directions twice and she kinda jumped and OS it took longer but she kinda shrieked, then we called Deb and yeah.

He did seem really sweet, and I'm really at a point now where I wouldn't say autographs mean nothing, but if I have the chance to get a good conversation in it's just so much more...valuable to me. It was a treat to hear him talk so passionately about TTB and I would be soo excited if a concert came out.

And Alix, don't feel bad that you didn't talk much. See at least Em knows I'm quite a babbler and from the moment I walked over to him, me being a pit geek, I immediately wanted to ask about Company and intstruments, but I def kept trying but just more talking was going on so I had a wait a good 5 minutes to get that question out. And then he had to mention Sweeney which of course I had to squeal and just talk about amazing musicians.

But that was very sweet of him to talk to us and such and exhibit such passion in discussions.

I babbled like a complete fool. Emcee said I just sounded nervous (well, DUH!) but I when I rewind it in my head, it's just a lot. I think I offended his friend. I told him I listened to ttB on the way there and cried (but I didn't realize I'd said that until 3 hours later). He actually said that I should go to Cincinatti to see him in Company since I've only seen him in Chitty. We talked about how our parents aren't Sondheim fans, and Sweeny Todd. It was lovely. SO much better than a stagedoor (which we also talked about) *does happy dance*

Oh, and I was sitting in the same aisle as him, so I kept glancing over like an idiot. And before the movie started, he greeted and hugged Al Larson, who was sitting in the row behind me. Ironically, I was wearing a striped button-down, which I rarely do, and he wasn't.

TTB concert- I couldn't even express how excited I was when he mentioned that, I just too overwhelmed at the idea. I hope it works out, that would be amazing.

Ugh, I'm so blonde. Alix literally turned me into the right direction and pointed him out. And I didn't shriek! That makes me sound like the Adam fangirls. I squealed. a complex fellow

I know what you mean about it being better than a stage door. I had that same experience at the Brilliant Mistake benefit. It's so much more personal!

Anyway, I really overslept. I'm so late! Ah!
