how long until November 16...?
23rd now. :/
it wouldn't be crazy of me to get through customs/passport control as fast as possible, sprint to the subway to get to the cort to check out opening night festivities after a 23 hour flight would it?

oh whoops, I forgot. It still seems far away!
I think -- for better or worse -- it'll fly by.
I don't think I posted this yet...
I read Homecoming on the plane out here....that is one f'd up play, lol. Given the right cast, this could be one interesting show!

*waves to obsessed*
I think that might be a little much Is Company taking place anywhere near you?
yea, tink - it's interesting, to say the least. I have no expectations of what they will do with it, but I can't wait to see it
I totally dropped the ball on seeing Company out here. It closed like a week after I got here . Oh well.

aw, too bad. Hope you're having fun though
It's great.Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been in. Definitely living here at some point--oh and the accents *sigh*.
Anyways I've been in about 5 different book stores here looking for a copy of "The Homecoming" and no one has it .
It's a totally f'ed up play and I love it.
Normally when I read plays I can kinda act them out in my head and picture what's going on on-stage. Ha, not with this one. Same thing with Adam Rapp's Stone Cold Dead Serious.
Ahh, I love Stone Cold Dead Serious.
I love his plays. Red Light Winter's probably my favorite. But I kept thinking about SCDS while reading The Homecoming because I was just like "What the hell just happened?"
So do I. I just read his novel, too. He's brilliant.
Hee, I love Stone Cold Dead Serious. I remember getting my first PM from Anthony when I commented on his thread that I loved it. I think I used the term "comfortingly dysfunctional" to describe it. His characters are just so normal (even if they're in odd circumstances), which in the world of being hit over the head with metaphorical characters representing societal problems is such a relief. It's like playwrights as a whole have forgotten that they're supposed to be showing actual PEOPLE up there.
Ha, I just found out today that my school's doing Our Town for the fall play.
Hi guys! It's been a while since I've been on the boards... About a bazillion pages to go through for this thread alone, but I scanned back through the last few and it looks like everyone who went had an awesome time at the reading (that's great!)
For anyone who's read Adam Rapp's book, did you find the ending a little disappointing? (Not to give anything away, but I couldn't decide if I found it horrendously depressing or a bit disappointing.)
I agree with you skittles, his characters are so real and flawed (and not just in that kooky, 'theatrically-flawed' way). That's why I love his work so much.
obsessed, you're so lucky to be in Sydney! It's SUCH a gorgeous city. Have you been going to the beach?
I just bought the OBCR of "Merrily...". I'm excited!
okay, now that i've rejoined the civilization known as bww...
i'm so excited you guys enjoyed the reading (but i'm still SO sad i couldn't go)!
and i finally ordered "the homecoming", and i'm totally intrigued after reading many of your comments.
ahh, i've missed my multiple daily visits to this thread!!

welcome back, katecabb! How was your trip?
everything was great! i've just been in and out so frequently that i've barely had any time to catch up in the past month! i'm so happy that things are finally a little calm and i can continue to focus the majority of my energy at work on keeping up with all this fun stuff
Jenna, I found the ending a little abrupt, because I had really warmed up to the characters, but not disappointing in the sense that I didn't like how the plot ended up. I found it heartbreaking and sad and vaguely disturbing -- definitely a downer -- but I don't think I'd say it was disappointing, just because I wasn't like, dissatisfied with the ending, or hoping for it to end another way or something.
Really tired. Not articulating well.
Can anyone recommend a Pinter biography?
If you check out the Wikipedia entry on Pinter, there's a long list of references, and I noticed at least one full-on biography. Plus links to a lot of other informative articles and books. It looks like a good place to start.
