i wouldn't really want him to put out his own work; i prefer when performers re-invent musical numbers a la patti's recent cd.
I obviously have no reason to think it might be any one thing or another or that he has any interest in this, but I would be VERY curious (if he even can write) music, what his writing would be like.

im going to guess his music would be depressing and full of angst. he doesnt come across like that in person, but i have a hunch that the music may be different.
I'm into angst, though.

Cerveris' angst is too much to handle. I'm surprised the guy hasn't just called it a day.
Angst is so hot.

Oh, I've totally been curious as to what Raul's own original music would sound like for some time. Since he's supposedly said he has no natural musical talent, though, perhaps a book of poetry or something would be more appropriate.

He should be a nude model. No joke.
Mmm, angsty poems.

Now that's talent!
Raul is my new favorite person. He was perfection. And he is SO gorgeous and he's magnetic on stage.
I just bought the OBC of tick,tick...BOOM last night (along with the revival OBC of Sweeney Todd). I have never really heard Raul sing before, expect on a clip from Cabaret. All I can say is - wow. He has an amazing voice.
I would love to catch him in Company, seeing as how I'll be missing Panaro's performance.

Ahah, nude model... I like that idea.
I was actually thinking of songs that he could cover on an album the other day. I think he should definitly record "Lonely House" (a song he sang on the second Seth's Chatterbox), because that is the only song I don't have on iTunes that he's sung, well, that and it's beautiful .

In Michael's defense, his album was recorded right after a breakup. He talks about getting sh*t faced with a bottle of Jack and recording songs in Europe as therapy. His more recent music isn't quite so angsty.
Man, if Raul ever did a show at Joe's Pub I wouldn't know what to do with myself. And there are a ton of things I would love to hear him sing. Mostly Sondheim.
Ooh, there we go...Michael and Raul could do a cabaret together. They are both Sondheim nuts, so why not?!
I love Raul's voice, I do, but I cannot sit through "Lonely House." I nearly always fast-forward through that part. He sounds really strained and it doesn't seem to be a song that suits his voice at all. It's honestly my least favorite thing I've ever heard him sing.
I haven't listened to much of Michael's music... I think that I was a tad disappointed in what I heard because he has such a fabulous rock voice (see his and Adam Pascal's hilarious "Under Pressure" cover), so I was surprised ha his original music is so mellow. I'm such a sucker for angst, though. And if Michael and Raul did a cabaret together, I would definitely travel he seven hours to get there.
I'm glad you liked him, aspiringactress!
I actually like Heroes (that's what it's called, right?) better than Lonely House. Lonely House just feels like "LOOK AT MY VIBRATO!" the entire time. It's not pretty and it sounds like it's hurting him.
Defying Gravity was the best of the night.

From the chatterbox, I'm partial to Heroes as well. Great song, and his vocal and acting colors were fabulous. I just love the musicality of it so much.
Lonely House is a beautiful song, and I get where Raul was trying to go with it. It's another one of those great acting pieces, but the song was really to show off more of a legit voice. And for that song, stylistically the vibrato is supposed to be there.
And for Defying Gravity...cute cute cute. But, uh...I'm really surprised that was "his" key. I adored every second of it cause he's so endearing. But it was definately my least favorite of the three.
I don't doubt that it's a beautiful song (at all!), but his rendition was, to me, decidedly not. I agree with Em that it sounds like it's painful for him to sing, there anyway. I'm sure it's so tough to sing something like that with basically no warm-up, though.
I adore Heroes and Defying Gravity, though.
Well, I don't love Defying Gravity because it's a showcase of vocal prowess.
I love it because it's hilarious.
Okay, Raul fans... I have a question for you all.
I just got the ttb OBC (which I love). However, I was wondering if there's any other recordings of Raul that I should get, and which do you suggest?
He's got a terrific voice and I'd like to hear more of it. :)

Do you have Taboo? Because Raul is lust-worthy on Taboo...
Taboo, for the sake of his voice and because the score is wooonderful.
Ah I'll get that one!
Thanks!
I was tempted to get the Rocky Horror revival cast recording, because he plays Riff Raff, but I don't like Daphne Ruben-Vega's voice... so I'm still on the fence about that one.
