Raul is definitely Jack -- as soon as I saw the movie, I thought he'd be so right for it. There was talk of a musical back then, too. I don't know if Mano has enough of the brooding thing to pull Ennis off, though -- Raul is definitely brooding, but he seems more suited to Jack than Ennis.

I agree. Raul is definitely Jack. And I do think Mano can pull off brooding. It'd be a different kind of brooding, though, since in the musical version, the character would be forced to convey certain emotions through song (which is not allowed for Ennis in the film). Which is actually why a musical version of the story probably wouldn't work...

But it's my fantasy, damnit! And these 2 were born to play gay cowboys (eating pudding)
