Posted: 3/19/06 at 5:43pmMaybe he was taking that nap he clearly needed.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:05pmThat's.... weird. I can understand skipping the talkbacks for, like, Chitty, but somehow I thought that he'd be more excited about this. Did she say anything else about how the talkback went?

No, but she said she'd call me later. I'll ask.
And yeah, I would've expected him to do them for this, too.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:12pmWell, in his defense he does have two shows today, and that and a talkback sounds killer.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:30pmYou guys are all so lucky to get to see Raul. Thank you guys for all the amazing reviews, it makes me feel as if I was there, sort of, hehehe. Oh how I wish I was there.

I love how he can be a total diva and we defend it.

Nope, he doesn't.
That would be... something.

I was just about to say something about that Em. Seeing as how I seem to be one of the few who believe that him skipping out of a talkback is a little rude.
No, his belly is not pierced. But thanks to Mandi's photoshop, Raul can have anything pierced.

Hahaha! I wonder if that's like a common misconception now because of our discussion in the thread, and Mandi's photoshopping. Oops.
I agree, Sarah, it really is lame. I'd be disappointed if I were there.
#1339Raul, OUR diva...
Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:40pmI think he should do it because he's such an asset to the show, but he doesn't usually do that stuff, so nothing's really changed. heh.

It's not like the interview happened out of the blue. It was scheduled. Now I'm dredging up other feelings I've felt about not being prepared for scheduled events. (Rent 5th Anniversary).
Just because he usually doesn't do it doesn't make it any better. People are taking the time to listen to him and hear what he has to say. It's a great opportunity to build on his fan base and get feed back, and by not going to any of them his "diva" comes through in a bad way.

I think he's really, truly grateful to be doing the show. He was using such beautiful words, and he's been so excited about this since he got cast.
Chitty had such a big cast that like, it didn't really make a difference that he wasn't around. Most people probably didn't even mind, maybe even notice. I mean, who knows if people even care out there? If the majority of the people seeing this even have any idea who he is. I'm not saying skipping out is right, but we also don't know if he ever was obligated to do it, if the entire cast did except him, if they have the option, etc. I don't know if it's just that he's supposed to be there and he's too much of a princess to do it, or if it's optional and would just be nice. It's possible; I have no idea how these things work.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:48pmAbout Raul missing the talkback....I guess I'm not surprised, seeing as how he seems to not totally care what people think of him. I'm surprised because, at least from what Em said, he was so genuinely excited about this production and working with Doyle and being away from Chitty and NYC. You'd think he would want to talk about it - it's an invitation for gushing about something you completely love doing.

Posted: 3/19/06 at 6:49pmEven if they are optional things, you'd think one would opt to do them, instead of having the reputation of not doing them. I don't know, I just kinda see it as a bit disrespectful. He is part of the cast after all, even if he is the lead, he's not part of his own separate thing.

That's what I was thinking too, Fantab. I'm surprised that he isn't jumping at the opportunity to discuss it.
I asked about how the talkback went otherwise becaue I was curious as to whether any of the other main performers skipped out, too, or whether it was mainly behind the scenes/production people. I guess if either of those were the case, it would somehow seem less lame that he didn't do it.

Right, I agree there -- you'd think he would do it, because he loves this and because he's the lead. I don't think I'm going to be so quick to think this means he's any less psyched about doing the show, because I think that's genuine, but I am a little surprised. Maybe he'll do the other ones, who knows?
This could all be part of whatever was up the other night; maybe something's going on with him.

I guess we'll have to wait to hear from g, but now I'm just very curious as to how the talkback is set up. Is it a Q & A with the audience, or is there a moderator who asks the questions? Who knows, they might have scheduled certain performers to not do certain talkbacks since there are a few. Perhaps Raul was excused from the talkback - if something is up. There could be a ton of possible explanations.
