A funny comment over at Talkin' Broadway. Perhaps a new character avenue for Raul between Find Me Guilty and Sopranos as mobsters?

Posted: 4/25/06 at 2:33pmThat's how I felt when I saw him for the first time, though I'm sure it's stranger for you since he recognises you and such. It's just so strange to be in a situation where you feel like you 'know' someone and yet- they don't know you.

Did you say anything to him Em? Or did you run away with your tail between your legs?

So, I started reading The Normal Heart today. I was gonna wait till school is over in a week, but I couldn't stand looking at it on my shelf any longer, lol. I am about 2/3 way through it. It is so amazing. I can't even describe it, but reading it has been even more moving than 'watching' it (though that opinion may change if I ever get to see it live). I am just in a world of 'wow'.
In other, less emotional news: CHITTY!!!!!! So, I'm a loser and ordered a Chitty program from the website (I was surprised they are still selling them...) and it came today and it is so beautiful

It was over three hours in production, but it reads pretty quickly. I think reading it is more moving, too, because you can absorb it a little better, rather than it all racing by in front of you, out of your control.
Are you gonna build the model car?

I missed a lot 'watching' it, and I haven't wanted to rewatch it because that would be a huge emotional investment, and I need to give myself the time to watch it and meditate on it. It's not like most shows, I can't just... forget about it when it's over. Which I think is the whole point.
I was honestly contemplating making Chitty... But then I realised I have no glue
. I will someday this summer when I am bored, I'm sure. Hehe, I should make it and have Raul sign it
.

I haven't read it in a long while. If I do, it's a scene here or there in the first act, or if I'm looking for some specific reference -- for many of the same reasons I haven't watched my BBM DVD yet, though, it's been spending a lot of time on my shelf.
I was going to make the car when I got bored, but then I realized I'd probably mess it up. I'm not good at that stuff.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 8:02pmYeah, I would probably mess it up too. Not to mention, it would end up in the trash a few months later- where would I want to stick a model flying car?

Mandi, no, I ran away. He was with some friends, or something, and then when they went away he was just with Michele, and I didn't really feel comfortable bugging him to shake his hand and then go mute.
I kept the car. It's just still inside the book.

Raul looked pretty good in the pictures, he's probably happy to be home.
Yeah, I'll probably just keep it in the book. Unless I get a wave of artistic inspiration or something- hah!

Posted: 4/25/06 at 8:11pmYeah. I really want a cast announced. To see who stays, and also to calm my nerves about Raul not being in it. I mean, it's pretty much for sure he's gonna do it, but I'm still scared he wont.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 8:18pmI think that reading The Normal Heart affected me more, but that was also my first exposure to the material so it's possible that it was mainly that. I know that a lot of people find it overly preachy and exposition-heavy, but I thought that it was a really well-written, extremely moving play. I liked that it was so straightforward and metaphorically in-your-face about the issues. I started sobbing during Bruce's monologue and pretty much didn't stop until a good while after I had finished reading. The dialogue goes by really quickly seeing it performed, and I think that's totally effective and the performances were brilliant, but at the same time it means a lot to look at the words themselves.

I started reading a copy of TNH from my university library and the poor thing was so beat up that I ordered a copy from Amazon. I'm waiting (im)patiently for it now.
I don't know why, but I'm kinda excited to hear that Raúl brought Michele along to Rent. I'm a dork like that.
