I am sitting here sobbing!
The courage of that woman! What a beautiful pair of skaters.
Actually... ALL of the stories tonight have really been something special!

Posted: 2/14/06 at 12:26amMe too, Addy. They were phenomenal. I'm convinced that if she hadn't fallen on that throw, they would've won the gold. THAT'S why I watch figure skating. Just increadible.

Such courage! And such grace!
Honestly, I don't know HOW she got through that! I tripped and skinned my knee the other day and have been hobbling around. She fell on the ice, twisted her leg and landed on her knee and then went on to give a breathtaking Olympic performance!
Truly one for the books!

I was so happy for them when they got the Silver Medal...The SILVER Medal! That's extraordinary considering what happened to her.
AND I actually found myself having RESPECT for the judges for the first time ever!

I just have to look at ice and I fall over. These people have my everlasting respect.
As for luge and skeleton...Has anyone screamed all the way down the course, yet?

Posted: 2/19/06 at 12:58pmwhat was up with SHANI DAVIS being so cold during the NBC interview after winning GOLD for the 1500 m speed skate? if he was "at a loss for words", why did he do the interview at all?
re: The Official Torino Winter Olympics Thread#162
Posted: 2/19/06 at 1:18pmI thought that interview was bizarre too. I mean, I guess it's totally possible to be just stuck in your own little dream world, but it just came across as very odd.

I agree. I saw the race and his interview last night, and he gave off an odd vibe. The whole situation seems pretty screwy. I forget all of the specifics with the men's combined, but I just don't understand why he wasn't more up front with his intentions, as far as not participating. Didn't he say he never intended to skate as part of the team, but he didn't actually tell the team that until the day before or of?? Something like that?? While part of me can kind of see where he's coming from, wanting to focus on his own races, it does seem kind of iffy not wanting to contribute to the team. Then the real kicker was not being totally up front from the beginning, before they even got to Torino.
I don't know. He seems like a bit of an odd duck.

Ouch, until that guy fell.

The hostility of the Italian Ice Dancing pair toward each other is rather frightening. And not terribly becoming.
How do they expect to perform together later if they can't even look at eachother?

I'm sitting here in amazement at the two of them! Unbelievable.
I felt so bad for the Canadian couple last night and just a little bit ago when they were interviewed.

I think it's really unsportsmanlike. They should have points deducted for their behavior!
I feel SO badly for the Canadian couple. What an emotional interview!

Posted: 2/20/06 at 10:23pmYes - that was heartbreaking. I couldn't believe how many of these ice dancers fell yesterday! It looked as bad as the figure skaters.

Posted: 2/20/06 at 10:23pmLike the announcer just mentioned, is that something she's going to want her daughter to see 20 years from now? How badly her mother behaved in front of the world?

Posted: 2/20/06 at 10:25pmYou should have seen what the canadian presenter said... something to the effect of grace and humility in sports, shown by the Canadian couple and missing from the Italian couple.

I don't wish them ill, but I really think it's behavior that doesn't fit with the spirit of the Olympics.
