It was very early on. Some gorgeous Italian woman was walking towards the camera. Both my husband and I recognized it right away. Fellini is actually what brought us together. Our very first heated debate was over which Fellini film was best, and we still disagree on that to this day.
I am going to watch the opening ceremonies again, and I will make note of it for you.
BTW, Marian is 10" tall.

Oh, thanks so much for measuring, hon, really!
AS for what's the best Fellini film-we touched on this on a thread I posted one night when Roma was supposed to be on tv but it was the wrong Roma. anyway, I haven't see all his films. But out of the ones I did see, I think Roma is my favorite. But I can never remember-the scene of the nuns and priests fashion show in a church-that's one of my favorite Fellini scenes of all time-but I never can remember if it's in roma or Satyricon.

I don't want to get yelled at for thread-jacking so I'll look for your Fellini thread and bump it way up.
Back to the Olympics opening ceremonies...
So beautiful and SO POLITICAL.
Gotta love that.
(Also, no one does fireworks as well as the Italians. It's a fact.)

didn't they play the amarcord theme tonite?
btw ... what music was that NBC was playing during their "dramatic" intro to the broadcast? it was beautiful, and i'd love to know what it was.

I fell asleep.
Was Carla Fracci, the most famous Italian Ballerina since the Romantic Era in the ceremonies?
re: The Official Torino Winter Olympics Thread#108

I didn't see Carla Fracci. The ceremonies were more focused on those who could perform during the ceremony, i.e. younger performers i.e. supermodels & ballet dancers.
I bet Roberto Bolle got a role because he's gained a little more visibility as a UNICEF spokesperson. I just wish he was shirtless & less Cirque du Soleil like he is in this video clip:

Aww, too bad.
Carla is to ballet what Sophia Loren is to films.
I loved Carla as Caroline and the Sylph and of course Giselle.

You gotta say age has been kind to Sophia Loren
Mama Mia that's a some spicy meatball
re: The Official Torino Winter Olympics Thread#111
Posted: 2/11/06 at 10:34amI don't think the world thinks as highly of ballet dancers as you and I, Glebb :) Supermodels & movie stars (a la Sophia Loren) are much more popular than ballet dancers

Yes Sophia is stunning still!
mint0621, are you familiar with Federico Bonelli?
He trained in Turin and is now a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet. He's an Italian stunner.

Glebb, I'm a dying American ballet dancer fan :) I grew up on Baryshnikov (although Russian, but danced mainly in the US) and the new generation of dancers, i.e. Angel Corella, Malakhov, & Carrenos. Love me some Rasta Thomas as well.
As for overseas dancers, I looove Roberto Bolle and Adam Cooper (mostly because they are so hot!). Technically though, I favor the American dancers....I'm not familiar with Federico Bonelli, who is he? Any photos?
re: The Official Torino Winter Olympics Thread#114
Posted: 2/11/06 at 10:44amI only have a head shot of Bonelli in my Birmingham Royal Ballet program from when I was involved in a gala there a little more than two years ago. I met Federico and he was a very polite, beautiful person. He danced the Prince from Ashton's Cinderella for the gala. Gorgeous.

The Men's Luge singles is coming up today. I know the defending gold medalist Armin Zoeggeler(also won silver in 199
from ITALY is the favorite, but I'm also pulling for a German Named Georg Hackl, who can win his 6th straight medal in the event! Silver in 1988, Gold in 1992, 1994 and 1998 and Silver in 2002. So I hope he can complete his trip to the Olympics with a medal!
