#2775The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely

This isn't going to sound like much of a comfort, but I could swear that it's almost a mother's duty to be a damper in her child's life some of the time. One of my older friends told me this a while ago when I was talking about my overprotective mother and I think it's, in a way, very true. Don't let her get to you.
Look on the bright side... despite it all, you still saw an amazing show! There's no way in hell that my mom would even allow me to fly somewhere to see a specific performer -- she'd tell me that I was a little too "into the Broadway thing." It's neat that you even went, regardless of your mom's complaints. Just try to tune her out. :)

Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:13pmAt first my mom told me she thought it was nice that I was "cultured" and enjoyed the theatre..now not so much. [Oo I just found girlscout cookies!]

I feel like sometimes my mom sees it as her duty not to let me have too much flighty fun because she wants me to stay grounded, but she also just doesn't know when to keep things to herself; she's far too opinionated for her own good. I mean, unfortunately the same can be said for me, but I try not to let that part of me get so out of hand as to ruin things for people.
She always asks what I think would happen if I didn't come to school in New York. Sometimes, I think she wishes I didn't. All of this wouldn't be.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:17pmBut it doesn't matter if she thinks you shouldn't have went to school in New York. If you're happy with that decision, and I'm sure you are because you wouldn't have had the experiences that you had, than that's all that really matters. It's YOUR life, not hers.

OUI!!!!!!!! Dans la premiere...uh...file? Ok I just made that up. (it's fila in Spanish)
mai dix!!!!
My mom doesn't mind that I enjoy the theater. She's just a little weirded out at the fact that some actors ARE approachable. That you CAN get to know them a bit, and keep in touch, and that doesn't necessarily make you a stalker.
Sweeney Todd is my first ever experience where it's gotten to the point that some of the actors recognize me, or know who I am. So this whole thing's new to her, and she reacts in an overprotective way.

My mom loves that I love theater - she's the one who introduced me to it. But, now she's starting to be wary of Mano's niceness. I just...won't tell her some stuff

So the mail came.
I FINALLY GOT A HEADSHOT BACK FROM MANO!
It's gorgeous, too.
The note reads...
"To Carole Ann --
Thanks for being so patient and for the support. I MISS CALIFORNIA!!
Love,
Manoel Felciano"
I just had to share.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:21pmMy mom sorta thinks it's just... interesting. She's been to stage doors and sees how it is, and sort of excepts that lines are blurry, but the first time I really fell into getting to know an actor, she was freaked out as all hell, because she didn't understand why it would make sense. She was just looking out for me, I know. My mom loves to make fun of people, but sometimes she makes light of too much. When I told her about Adam finally warming up, and I was so thrilled, she was like "well, you practically STALK him."

Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:21pmWait, Fantab, why exactly is she wary of Mano's niceness?

lol, I'd ask Mano for a headshot, but, again...it'd be weird.
My mom is also weary of Mano's niceness. I totally get why, too. It's a complete misunderstanding, but I can see why it could seem...weird.

Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:29pmIn a "what does he want with you?" kind of way -- since they don't seem to get anything tangible of being so nice. But they get support, which they seriously need. That's what I'd tell my mom if she'd listen. :-p
#2793The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:31pmExactly, Em. It's the "Why is a guy in his 30s being so nice to you?"

Ah, ok, that's what I figured.
That attitude is so... mother-like, though. Just ignore it!
#2796The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:34pmYes, exactly. And Mano, in particular, is really nice, open and approachable. Which, from a distance might seem odd. But it's actually a VERY saavy way to kick start your career. Keep your fans happy. And Mano does exactly that. I just hope he stays like this even after he becomes hugely famous (which is very likely, especially since he's almost guaranteed a Tony Award)
#2797The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:35pmI feel a little selfish thinking that, but I hope he stays that way, too. They don't easily forget the people who put them where they are, though.
#2798The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:38pmI hope so!! I'll still support him, no matter what. But it would be nice if he remembered those of us who were there from the get-go (or in Gypsy's case, back when he was just a pit singer!!!)
#2799The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/20/06 at 9:58pmWell I didn't really know who he was at the time! Guy with the cool jacket. Sweater story, which I've already said a zillion times and will never say again.
