Well, I think some of those secrets are pretty clever. Many are incredibly mean, yes. But others are just goofy.
And now I'm really looking forward to Liz's submission! LOL

Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:09pmI enjoy them, generally. Sometimes people cross lines in terms of what's tactful to say, but other times it's really cool to see that you're not alone in unpopular opinions you may hold.

Ah yes, 'Chica. Bathing... and the drugs. What fun.
And I think if you mean to say something hurtful, then it WILL be hurtful. Doesn't matter who says what, but what is said, if intended to hut, will hurt. Some people just can't face the fact that they themselves are hurting people instead of just giving their own opinions, and don't want to be thought of as, well... "Donna Lynne Champions of EVIL". er...
But these aren't being sent to actors, the mean ones. They're not being said to anyone's faces. In this case, it is just meant as an opinion share-fest. Let people say what they want; after all, better said on lj than to peoples faces.

The secret communities can be mean, but, for the most part, they're fun.
#3104The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:25pmWould you go up to Idina Menzel and say "you breathy piece of s**t" or whatever mean secrets about her are saying? Nope. So... internet secret-post it! It's more expressive.

You're right...but still, it doesn't seem right. Maybe that's just me.
I'll try and give it a chance, if for no other reason than to see Liz's picture get posted
#3106The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:32pmThat's a good reason. And I'm sorry if my opinions on mean-opinions seem mean. I'm just... not the nicest of people, and almost any kind of expression and opinion flies with me as apropriate.

I have no problem with people expressing their opinions, but it seems they do it in such an immature way on that site. That's what irks me. Honestly, I don't care *that* much.
Yayy Mano

Gypsy - some members of BWW, myself included, are easily wary of the LJ secret communities because about a month ago a BWW member was the subject of a secret. We never found out who did it and although the community was not intended to provide a place for people to bash each other, because the mod had no idea what it was, things like that get posted.

Well, there's all kinds of maturity levels. You just have to grit your teeth and ignore the crazies.
And sorry, Fantab, if things got personal with you and that lj thing. I'm just... not a bww community-er, i guess?

Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:44pmYikes! Due to some morbid curiousity.. who was that secret about? What did it say?

I didn't know that! That sucks
We have a Sweeney Todd LJ community, and people there are really mature (for the most part, anyway). Not that kind of stuff at all.
#3113The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:48pmIt was just a weird...and kind of pathetic way for someone to say how they feel.
#3114The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:53pmThe incident that Fantab is talking about was one of the worst things that I've ever seen on lj.
#3115The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 8:57pmEven worse than that girl who pretended she committed suicide to see if her friends would miss her?
#3116The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 9:09pmI'm SO out of the LJ loop. I hate nastiness.

HAHAHA, Liz, that "secret" was awesome.
Meh to LJ and Myspace... I have accounts for both. Heh.

It was about me. I don't care, you can talk about it. It was nasty, but it was also laughable how cowardly the person was -- that they had to make a cute little picture rather than confronting me about it.
There's just a fine line, you know?

Wow- that's surprising. I really thought it was going to be about someone who is...less nice. I'm sorry, Emcee
#3120The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 9:45pmwow, emcee, that really sucks. Cowards are the worst.
#3121The Land of Mano, where the violins roam freely
Posted: 3/22/06 at 9:47pmIt was really cowardly.

I was hurt, and worried that there might have been truth to it, but after that went away, I got to the point where I could just laugh at it, and honestly, at the person's way of handling their problem with me. Thing is, as someone quite wise told me, that on the internet, you can not only say stupid sh*t, but you can say it without consequence.
Obviously I'd pissed somebody off. And whatever, it happens. But like, deal with ME, you know?

agreed. To go around your back is just petty, immature, and annoying.
Maybe we should send Mano to chop their head off with his lightsaber.
(see? The thread just got silly again!)

I have no idea what happened...but don't want to press the matteer if it's still touchy, whatever it was, I'm sorry to hear that people can be so immature.
In lighter news...
I sent Mano a t shirt (which was actually made for someone about 40000 lbs) and it said on the front "mankind 10 minutes before the invention of the violin" and a pic of a bunch of cavemen, and on the back, it was a pic of a really good looking, well groom man, and it said "mankind 10 minutes after the invention of the violin." And a letter just telling him how much I admire his work.
I got confirmation on the package being delivered and told him to keep an eye out for it...he said:
"Yes! I did get it, that is incredibly nice of you. Your letter was so sweet, and the T shirt was hysterical, though i do look like I'm drowning in it. Really very kind thank you. Did you get the headshot? I think you asked for one, but I get confused.
m "
Aaand I love him.
