I'm sorry!! I was sure there would be hugs... I'm not responsible for his actions.
Mano IS pretty reserved. Maybe he didn't feel comfortable with you guys yet. When I went with my sister, he gave me a hug, and only gave her a handshake.
I really thought he'd give you some! I'm REALLy sorry, I really had no reason to assume that

Posted: 3/25/06 at 1:11amMy one month Sweeney anniversary was the 22nd...and I had on my Sweeney shirt...and didn't even realize till that night, that it'd been a month and I was wearing the shirt on that day. Spooooooky.

From the "Thoughts from My Shows This Past Week" thread:
Also was anyone from this board at Sweeney Wednesday night? I was sitting by someone(fourth row center) who was talking about Manoel at intermission and it sounded very likely that that person could have been from here. Just curious.
Anyone?

#3738The Land of Mano, home of WASMRNC
Posted: 3/25/06 at 1:26amI don't think it was anyone from this thread. They would've talked about it if they'd seen Sweeney this past Wednesday.

I completely skipped over this part, but...
There were a ton of school groups there tonight, and they must've filled the seats that normally would've been rush. They said they didn't have anything for rush, so we got SRO.
I loved the show SO MUCH MORE this time than I did the first time, and I think a really big part of it has to do with being closer and being able to better pick up on detail and facial expression. It was a lot more affecting this time around. I think I'm also getting in on the Sondheim "thing." Finally.

If you people honestly think that you're a 'bad fan' for only having see the show eighteen times and not nineteen, you need to get a grip on reality.
Emcee, I'm sure you did enjoy it now that you know who Mano is.
Does anyone ever see shows for the SHOW anymore and not for the actor?

Posted: 3/25/06 at 11:18amIf the Sweeney cast was different, I'm positive I'd still see it. I really want to see Tarzan and I dislike Jen Gambatese.

nia, you would think by now, you'd know it's stupid to bring outside problems onto the boards. But clearly, nothing goes through you. Did I not explain why I liked it better? Or why I didn't love it the first time? Both to you and many, many times on the boards?
But it's per usual for you not to take anything I say as much but a lie.

insomniak, you clrearly don't know me, nor do you know the people on this board, so don't assume your comments apply to everyone. I won't speak for anyone else; they can defend themselves. But your pointed "seen the show 19 times" seems directed at me (since I'm the only here who can make such a claim) so I respond to that.
Whether there's people who enjoy this show because a particular actor, I'm sure that's true. And arguments could be made to justify why there's nothing wrong with that. But don't assume that because I've seen a particular show multiple times, that I'm a spazzy fangirl. And because I enjoy posting on this thread doesn't mean that I only enjoy this show because of one actor. Those who know me, know that I am an avid theater, and yes, Sondheim enthusiast, and have been for years. And my love for this show has everything to do with the conceit, the direction, and the source material. My admiration for the cast (and it's everyone in the cast) is a part of that.
I'm 26 years old, and I'm a graduate student at Columbia University. I enjoy engaging in intelligent discourse about shows I love. The same way I re-read a book or treatise 20 times in order to fully grasp what I want to discuss, I enjoy seeing "Sweeney Todd" multiple times. Not because I think Mano's cute (which, let's face it, he is), but because EVERY TIME I see the show I notice something different. I enjoy the thrill of being in the audience. You need only search for my posts in threads about Sweeney Todd to see why. And, yes, I have enjoyed the opportunity to speak to Manoel, given his enormous generosity in sharing about his acting process (and with whom I share a passion for scholarly research). And I've only grown to admire him more. If he thought I,or emcee, or fantabulous, or gypsy, were spazzy, silly fangirls, he would'not have been so open, and generous with us. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that, despite the sillyness of this thread, we have nothing but pure admiration for him.
I also like being silly every now and again. Letting go, and just having a laugh. Which is why I enjoy this thread, and the people who are a part of it. Everyone needs to let go, and be silly every now and then. And this thread allows for that.
