exactly. I mean, I like Johnny Depp and think that he is an amazing actor but I am going to wait to see this movie before I have an opinion whether or not it is going to be nominated. Also, I don't listen to critics anyway. Generally, the movies they hate, I end up liking. I just think people need to make their own opinions and stop going on what others say (that goes with theatre as well). And people need to start seeing things with an open mind and not already having pre-conceived opinions before even watching a movie (or show in that matter).
We'll have a better idea on Monday when the Golden Globes, the New York Film Critics, and AFI nominations are announced. But, if I were to place bets:
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Kinsey
Million Dollar Baby
Sideways
possible upsets (* for the more likely upsets):
The Incredibles*
Ray*
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind*
Bad Education*
F9/11
Passion of the Christ
Spanglish
Closer*
A Very Long Engagment
Collateral
POTO
I would love to see Bad Education get a best picture nomination, and I would LOVE it if Gael Garcia Bernal got a nomination for actor for it. They could probably submit him in supporting for Bad Education and lead actor for Motorcycle Diaries. If he scored a double nomination, popcultureboy would be very happy.
But if the Jesus Movie gets so much as a single nomination, I will be most upset.
We're also forgetting one of the best-reviewed films of the year - Hero. It should definitely snatch up a few design noms, at least.
One of these films will be Best Picture. Most likely only 4 of these films will be nominated for Best Picture with a 5th not on the list (Finding Neverland). I'm putting an asterik by the 4 I think will be nominated, with two by who I think will win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Isn't BAD EDUCATION only eligible for best foreign picture?
no--ANY full length film can be eligible for Best Picture in a given year. It doesn't matter if it is a foreign film, documentary, or animated feature. Not sure if shorts are eligible.
I don't think Hero's eligible, it was up for Foreign Film a couple years ago.
