Having seen most of these movies already ; I feel i can safely say the oscar race will be a tight one between "Million Dollar Baby" and "Aviator"
Chances are slim, but I'll be praying for CLOSER.
Iris,
You and Dame agree on so many things!
You two must be awfully close friends.

Closer is a great film. I think it will pick up alot of the other awards. like best director and screenplay.
I'll consider it a crime if Mike Nichols doesn't win.
Do you think Scorcese has a chance? I haven't seen The Aviator, but I think he really deserves a win.
Well, Phantom of the Opera isn't out yet and the older people in the commitee like musicals so.....it might still be in the running. It is not even out yet, so we will see what happens.
Phantom is very mediocre. And I have seen it. it would be a disgrace if it wins anything. ( except possibly Minnie Driver)
My predictions for the nominees:
The Aviator - saw it yesterday at a press screening. Truly, the best film of the year.
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
The Phantom of the Opera
Sideways
I am amazed you put Phantom on your list. I found it to be boring and heartless. So manufactured and phony. I am curious; did you actually see it? or just going by the media?
This is what I think WILL get nom.
Phantom of the Opera
Finding Neverland
The Aviator
Closer
and then not sure for the 5th spot
Theaternut;
Not sure if you were refering to me. but I did not put Phantom on my list. i didn't care for it. However; boring it is not.
If it was directed to me, I haven't seen it yet I am just saying that older people on the commitee like musicals so that might give it a push right there. I am seeing it in 2 weeks so I can give an accurate opinion then. I love the show so more than likely I will like the movie.
Hands down... AVIATOR. And Martin Scorcese will finally receive an Oscar and long overdue acknowledgement for Best Director.
I am just curious; how many of you have seen all these movies you are comparing to eackh other? I have because I am fortunate to go to screenings and get screeners... but alot of these movies have not even been released yet. So I am wondering how some of you come to your conclusions???
Aviator. I've seen it. And it's BRILLIANT!
Ok. But which other movies have you seen that makes you say "Hands down Aviator."?
Along with what Dame has said: I'm in Ohio, we're not an early release area, I'll be able to give my two cents once things like 'Kinsey' and 'Sideways' and what not get rolled out to these parts.
You will ove Sideways.
k. But which other movies have you seen that maks you say "Hands down Aviator."?
The only possible Oscar worthy movie that I haven't seen yet is Million Dollar Baby. But knowing what I know, and having read what I've read about it (not to mention having seen a 10-minute preview reel), I can't imagine it even coming close to beating out The Aviator for Best Picture. Beside it being an absoulutely Brilliant film, and Martin Scorcese's best work in years, it's the perfect movie for the Academy to finally recognize Scorcese for. If there ever was an "Academy" movie, The Aviator is it.
Well; we will just have to wait and see. I do think you are wrong. Just curious; what did you think of Phantom?
Haven't seen Phantom. And don't consider it Oscar worthy. Nothing by Joel Schulmacher ever is.
Well; we agree on that one. However; Warners pr people would heavily disagree with us. I did see it. And I was un moved.
I'm sure Warners will be promoting it to the high heavens. And I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if it ended up getting nominated. But if I was betting, I'd have to say I don't think it will. And if by some chance it does get nominated, it surely isn't going to win.
