that's why good musicals can be better than good plays
currently, my show isn't going well. I can write the "book" just not the music...
nia, are you given any sort of guidelines, or is it just "wrote somethnig, 10 pages or less"

gnite ellie - and when you get a chance do explain what a "spaghetti hoop head" is....
nia - when you say prompt ideas - what do you mean?
bso - maybe you need a composer partner...?
Fredi, I just had a random thought...please excuse.
You mentioned a while ago that you hoped "Door Wall" makes it into the movie.
Can you tell us anything about that song? Where was it in the show, and what was it about?

Sorry, should've been more specific. Prompt needs to result in ten pages or less of fiction. There are no other guidelines.
nia, what are your strengths? are you drawn to writing a particular genre?

wow ntg - you've been reading back...
DOOR/WALL was a short song that was really Mark and Roger angst over thier greatest enemies (or obstacles...)
Roger - the door (he can't leave...)
Mark - the wall (like a blank page - no footage to show...)
it was sorta "artsy" and didn't really help drive the plot but i always liked it melodically (and metophorically) and I belive it could work better in the film than it did in the show...

ya,
i need a composer partner...
anyone up for it?
LOL

I like the sound of Door/Wall... strenghtens the character's motivations. If they needed to add something for time or to re-emphasize Mark and Roger's purposes, it would've been good.

nia -
you know that expression - "truth is stranger than fiction"?
it's true...
use people, anecdotes, locations, etc... that you know well and build on them...
i do it all the time - everything i write has a piece of my life - someone i know... stories i've been told, etc...
with names changed to protect the guilty...
Thank you!
I *love* Open Road. (Yes, I've heard NYTW...I got overly curious.) I think it's a gorgeous melody and it definitely stuck with me after I heard it. That I think could definitely work in the movie if they want to show Roger's journey.
(Plus I really want to hear Adam sing it...)

wow - open road... i forgot all about that...

actually, i need a bunch of composers to add different sounds (because there are different shows in my one show) - that'll add to the cleverness of it....
fredi-
semi-random question. i know we asked you about your attitudes towards bootlegs earlier in the thread. but what's your opinion of fans having recordings of workshop versions of shows, once it's long past the time they have happenned (like the NYTW version of RENT).
I really want to learn the piano part of it. But it's one of those things where I evaluate whether or not I'll ever actually be able to perform it anywhere, and decide that it's not worth the time. ::sigh::

That's a thought, Fredi... keep going... give me a basis... name three random things, quick. Any three you can think of.

the original recording is a bootleg...
there are no authorized releases of the workshop..
a goat
cheese
a canoe
Oh, that's dangerous, som. I tried to do a whole stor on ff.net like that...didn't work too well. And once I ended up writing an entire story about broccoli that way too...

NTG, I loved the BSTOOPED diet or whatever that one was called. It amused me.
Anyway, the three objects works for me because I rarely end up using them, they just give me a place to start thinking.
'Oh, that's dangerous, som. I tried to do a whole stor on ff.net like that...didn't work too well. And once I ended up writing an entire story about broccoli that way too... '
Haha and with your writing skills I bet it was a very exciting and well written story about broccoli...

my first film script happened because I couldn't remember where I parked my car one night...
i thought - what would happen if someone was USING my car without my permission and parking is somewhere else when they're done..?
::hides from som::
Don't remind me...

Fredi, I get you... I think I can work off that concept... anyone wanna read it when it's done?
NTG, it was funny!
i'd love to read it when you're done
