I can't go to the site because it freezes my AOL. I don't know why some sites do that. Broadway.com is another one.
I'm doing fine, thanks :)
eew...why does it do that?
No idea, but it's certainly a pain in the ass.
Bizt, it default redirected me to the hotels.ca home page. What hotel are you looking at? In NYC? I thought you were staying with relatives!
Also, if you're looking for good hotel reviews, check out www.tripadvisor.com. I live and die on there. (That's what I was surfing last night. Seriously.)
i am still hoping to....but my aunt may be going out of town that weekend.
it's the americana inn.
Haven't heard of it. Of course, I don't spend a lot of time in hotels in NYC
I remember researching the Americana because it was fairly cheap. This is what tripadvisor travellers had to say about it:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d121981-Reviews-Americana_Inn-New_York_City_New_York.html
It doesn't seem horrible, but 38th Street is a bit of a walk from the Times Square area (I mean, it's walkable, but if you're in a rush to get to theatres, restaurants, etc., I'd recommend staying between 42-52St between 5-8th Avenues)
i don't mind the walking.
playing on tripadvisor.
hmm...think i'll get killed if i stay in a hostel?
Yes. Eww. Hostel.
What's your budget?
(And it's not so much the walking--NYC's probably the best city to walk in--I just mean if you're going to be in a rush, dropping off your shopping, getting changed, etc. before you go back out, it's better to be within a couple of blocks of Times Square. It's not so much the distance, but the pedestrian and vehicle congestion that's a pain.)
my goal is to spend as little as possible.
and the ped. traffic in NY doesn't bother me that much.
eh....not booking anything today though.
annoying thing is that i can't book a flight+hotel package
Are you a rushy person? If you're not a rushy person, you might be okay. I'm really anal because I'm always running late, so pushing through people to book it to the Gershwin (which I had to do twice--ick) kind of sucked.
Well, where do you think you're going to sight-see the most? How much is the Americana costing?
If you're looking for cheap but reasonable, I'd recommend the Comfort Inn or Super 8 Times Square. Both are on 46th Avenue between 5th Ave and 6th/Broadway, literally a 3 minute leisure walk to Times Square. If it's low-season, you should be able to get a room for around $100, and it includes free internet in the lobby and continental breakfast.
sightseeing isn't really the goal this trip, since i was just in NY in Sept for a week and a half. and since it's just me, i don't have to rush that much.
the americana would be 70/night. depending on how much my flight ends up costing, i may decide to stay someplace nicer.
but HOPEFULLY i can stay with my aunt, at least for a couple of nights.
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting you've been to NYC before so you've done the sightseenig jaunt. (Why do I keep thinking this is your first time....*slowly going senile*)
70/night is alright. Is it shared bathrooms? The one hotel I would absolutely stay away from is the Pennsylvania Hotel in lower-midtown. The tripadvisor.com reviews are frightening and horrendous. (I think someone compared it to a French prison from the 1800s.)
How much is your flight looking like it'll cost? Didn't you say you found it for $200 on cheaptickets a while ago?
I see our little travel agent is hard at work..

I like the Westin. But it is waaay expensive. Meh, I wasn't paying.
Sometimes my parents get these bizarre urges to stay in a hotel in Manhattan and like...see shows and stuff. I'm like, you live 15 minutes away. Can't you just drive the hell in? Weird people.

Shub, I like the sound of your parents!
Not from what you said - I listen to them at night, from a shadowy crevice.
No kidding Shub! Geez! What's they're justification?? Hotels in NYC are expensive, no matter what!
Ellie, where's the Westin? Is it east midtown, or am I on crack again?
Cam, I've got a small bead of sweat trickling down my temple just thinking about NYC hotels.
AND I get to have MORE fun because I get to pick the hotel we stay in London from May 21-26!
tiffy, i was BORN in NY....grew up going there every summer.
then i went twice last year...did the tourist thing in Jan. (stayed at the Waldorf....was so nice)
ideally, this trip is about seeing some shows, unwinding from grad school apps, and acing the interview to get myself into grad school...
plus figuring out where i want to live in the event that i get into/end up going to NYU
plus, you know....freakish amounts of shopping
Of course. Shopping is good. I just recently became girly and can't get enough of it.
Shopping makes me squee...
I have such a love for jackets, purses and shoes.
and hats
and scarves.
Sorry to threadjack, but I'm deeply concerned. My friend just told me that his little brother is working as an intern at a music company, and John Stamos came in today to record a demo for Get Shorty: The Musical, which is aiming for Broadway. Horrifying. Apparently, Amy Spanger is the co-star. Updated On: 1/21/05 at 07:55 PM
