Did anyone see the Met Opera production of The Ring? They have a new Doco out in theatres on Monday night "Wagners Dream " that looks amazing.
Hoping some one here might have seen the operas or planning on seeing this new film.

We were there last night for Rheingold, and we go back Monday, Wednesday and then next Saturday for Gotterdamerung.
I'm enjoying the physical production ("La Machine") and the singers are fantastic, especially Bryn Terfel.
Mostly it's wonderful just to drink in that glorious music.

Posted: 5/6/12 at 12:25pmI've never been to an opera, but what the met is able to achieve in terms of theatrics has always fascinated me. I think you'll be able to find me at one of the showings in the city tomorrow night. Thanks for posting this!

I really want to see the movie but it's only showing tomorrow night, which is the second night of my Ring Cycle.
And in case anyone has never seen this (or if you feel like laughing again), here is Anna Russell's recap of the Ring in 29 minutes:

"He put her on a rock and nagged her into a coma" LOL
Thanks for the link Pal Joey, hope the second opera is as good as the first/.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 12:41pmI swear, if a single old bitch asks me to remove my horned helmet, I will rape and pillage till Deborah Voight comes home.

You're joking, but the other night at Rheingold, there were three separate groups, each of which decided to attend wearing identical horned headpieces.
As Anna Russell says, "And at these prices!"

At Siegfried last Monday there was a patron wearing a horned headpiece that had a purple blinking light inside of each horn.
It was hilarious.

Just the title of this thread put me to sleep.
Just kidding; saw Lyric Opera of Chicago's Ring and loved all 72 hours of it.
Yes, they also had die hard fans in costume.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 2:37pmI was going to try to be there tonight. But since Jonas Kaufmann won't be there, neither will I.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 4:44pmI know Jonas Kauffman is opera's version of porn, but come on, tonight has Bryn Terfel, Stephanie Blythe and Deborah Voigt!

PJ, I should have clarified that I saw it last year with all three of them, plus Kaufmann. Terfel and Blythe are incredible for sure. I'm not crazy about LePage's production (or Voigt's Brunnhilde) so I decided not to go out of my way this year to see it again once Kaufmann cancelled. So, my Met season ends on Friday with VEC MAKROPULOS.
(Also, don't forget the amazing Eva Marie Westbroek! I can't wait to see her in Francesca di Rimini next season)
