By the way, another Oscar snub this year was Michael Keaton.

 

On the other side of the coin,Lily Tomlin got dissed so there is plenty of angst to go around.

Michael Keaton's not a very good actor.   He's the weak link in Spotlight, imo.

Well, it is the most acclaimed movie of the year, by far. It would have been weird if it wasn't nominated.

 

Increase the number of slots for acting awards. It is only a stopgap until someone complains about not enough winners. If the awards stopped tomorrow who would care?

 

It's one of the most watched shows in the world, so I'm guessing a few people.

 

 

If Will Smith had been nominated would she still be boycotting? I somehow doubt it.

 

Of course not. She's boycotting because of the lack of non-white nominees. Will Smith is non-white. If he'd been nominated, there would have been a non-white nominee, and therefore no reason for the boycott.

Janet Hubert has an agenda.  The boycott makes little sense to me.  Spike Lee & Mrs. Will Smith are well-heeled now. I'm left wondering if either would have called for a boycott 20 yrs ago when they were still on the up as the kids say these days.

 

ETA: Funny that no one pointed out that I originally wrote Spike Jones.  First applauding The Revenant and now this.  Guess I'm a blunt instrument after all.

Probably not.Lee is a tad ungreatful. The academy gives him an honorary Oscar and he gives them the finger.

 

Somehow, from him, it is not that surprising.

I don't blame him.  Chi-Raq is remarkable on several levels and could have been nominated for lots of things, including performances.  It just doesn't make sense.

 

And more people remember the refusers when it comes to long-term, like when Sawsheen Littlefeather RSVPed regrets only for Marlon.

It's a bit over-long but I think it's because it has ambitions.  I mean, I knew it was Lysistrata set in contemporary Chicago, I just wasn't expecting verse.

I think with a possibiliy of 10 Best Picture nominees, nominating only eight and leaving out Straight Outta Compton sent an unsettling message.  While Will Smith was largely considered a likely nominee, so was Idris Elba but you don't hear his family griping about it.  It is, after all, a movies award contest, not the cure for cancer.

Yes, Mr. Roxy, that is so clearly what should be assumed the second a woman makes a claim of her own--that she is her husband's mouthpiece. Because it wouldn't make sense to assume she felt compelled to speak her mind in defense of her husband and her community, now *that* would be just nuts.

Does Miss Pickett-Smith suggest who should be Miss Columbia'd for her husband or others she feels should be nominated instead?  That would be brave, If not, shes yelling at the wind.
