This thread is about steam room activities.
Namo, stop being an ass. You can state your opinions without citing specific sources or experience, but no one else can? Is what I'm saying so out there and unlikely? Why aren't people allowed to have discussions on this board without you telling us all how wrong we are and how right you are? I think you'd do much better with a blog. You wouldn't have to deal with anyone else. Start a weblog and pontificate all you'd like. I'm sure millions of people would be better for it.

CK - you don't have to try THAT hard to look uninterested
Steam room,
NYC feels like one today.
And this topic makes me sweat.
I'll buy that, Rath. But I *still* maintain that an affair with SuziQ, who wants to be the trophy wife, is potentially more destructive to the marriage.
Then again, I suppose it could also be said that the marriage is probably already in trouble, if the guys is looking for "something on the side", be it at the gym, from a prostitute, or with SuziQ at work.
My point is still that guys at the gym and prostitutes aren't looking to become the newer model of the "Mrs."

Touchy touchy Rath.
When you wrote, "I think the point LF is trying to make is that it's much more likely that men who are making a habit of hooking up in steam rooms are more likely to bring home an STD to their wife..." your phrase "more than likely" implies that this is IN FACT a statistic. Not that it is your opinion.
If it IS your opinion, what is it based on? Please, tell us how you came to be SO informed about what STDs a man might get by engaging sexually with a man in a steam room? What do you imagine HAPPENS in the steam rooms? What do you supposed the breakdown is in the wide ranging continuum of sexual behaviors that can and do happen in steam rooms among men of all sexual classification categories and what percentage of the sexual behaviors pose little or no risk of disease transmission? What so you suppose the prevelance of sexually transmitted infections exist in men who go in steam rooms? What do you suppose the incidence is (actual transmissions that occur there)?
Frankly Rath, I'm tired of judgmental people using their Pat Roberstonian "gut instincts" and spreading misinformation about disease prevention based on what they imagine in their fevered little brains goes on and how it is often punished by disease.
And wording it so it sounds like a statistical analysis.

I'm not seeing what the big deal is. If you "make a habit" of hooking up in steam rooms- or, to broaden the statement, if you make a habit of hooking up in general, you're going to have a greater number of sexual partners than if you just have an affair with one person from the office. If you have more sexual partners, you're more likely to catch an STD. It's not about homophobia. And I'm sure I could dig up the statistics on that.
Let's all go to our corners and spread love not war.
Just my two cents.
And always wear a condom when making love.

BUT BE FOREWARNED. If you go to your corners and spread love in a steam room, Rath and Littlefish say you'll catch something.
Plum, there has to be the presence of disease for disease to spread. And there are a LOT of sexual things that can be done that are really no risk for disease.
But apparently the epidemiological geniuses in this thread think disease goes hand-in-hand with locations and not behaviors.
That puppet makes me gag.
Alright... let's just say that bacteria enjoys warm wet environments. You're more likely to get sick if you're in a warm, wet place. Take that as you will.
Namo, you would seem to be the touchy one. And I don't think using the words "more likely" makes it seem like I'm citing statistics. If that is how you understand statistics to work, then yes, you are going to come away from many discussions with misinformation. And I didn't say locations - if you read my post more carefully, you will see I'm talking about behavior. That was my entire point - unless people only hook up in steam rooms with the same person. I don't believe that's what this conversation was about.
And frankly, I'm tired of judgemental people judging me and deciding what my politics are when really, they would be VERY surprised. But you know all, don't you, Namo? We all bow to you. Really. We do.

Naturally, Rath, you didn't answer any of my questions about what thoughts in your imagination about what people DO in steam rooms has lead you to your specious conclusions.
But they are specious.
Namo, I do not live in a vacuum. Do you think I don't read, don't pay attention to the rest of the world? Reading this board alone can be pretty informative. I have a brain, and it is functional. Just because I didn't quote a CDC statistic does not mean I'm unaware of what goes on in the world. iflit used the word "probably" in her post - why didn't you ask her for statistics? Why is that different? Do you actually believe you are doing this board a service with your interrogations, that only target whomever you feel like targeting that day, week, month? Go ahead and say I have a persecution complex now, as you always do in order to cover up your own issues.
This is where life experience matters more than some sort of statistical data.
Cause you ain't never gonna get everyone to talk truthfully about behavior such as this. But I will endeavor to do so, as I'm not in any way embarrassed by this.
I have hooked up A LOT in steam rooms. The number is pretty freaking high. And the overwhelming (99.9%) of activity I've both witnessed and participated in is what is considered very low risk. As I have not been canonized a saint, I have indeed induldged in higher risk behaviors without the benefit of a condom. But never, ever in a steam room (and, oddly enough, never, ever in a chemically altered state). Fact is, unlike an actual bathhouse which is designed as a place for sexual liasons, a steam room at the gym is still verboten. People walk in and out all the time. So doing any of the more complicated acts that require a dismount is tricky. Not that it never happens...but it's far rarer than you think.

Robbie, you just stop that logic nonsense right now. You're getting in the way of some perfectly good straw men. Updated On: 6/7/05 at 05:54 PM
Off to the gym now - will let you know how it turns out!
robbie, I want the breakdown of that 99.9%. Are you SURE that's the right number? Go back to your records and triple-check. Otherwise, it is not an acceptable statement to make. People are going to come away dangerously misinformed.

Thank you Robbie, that's exactly what I was getting at. The REALITY of situations versus what happens in the imaginations of people who have never set foot in a men's only steam room.
Sure, a person can IMAGINE all sorts of things. And CONCLUDE all sorts of things happening as a result.
But they would most likely be wrong.
Oh, and Rath, you wouldn't find any information of this sort on CDC web sites. Don't know if you know this or not, but when George W. Bush became President he had all mention of condoms as a prevention tool removed from the site.

You see, Rath, you can be as much of a wise ass about this as you want. But what Robbie has done is illustrate MY point with his personal story. Face it, sister, you won't EVER understand sex between men, and that's fine. But you don't need to layer YOUR patina of disease over it so that you can tsk-tsk about what it is that people do and where.
Namo, I am sorry that you can't have a discussion without twisting everything around. I was not tsk-tsk'ing anything. And I'm tired as sh*t of having to defend every single goddamn thing I say from you. Why are you the freakin' board police? Why are you so superior from the rest of us? If you know EVERYTHING, why are you WASTING YOUR TIME ON A MESSAGE BOARD??? Do you really think you're making that huge of an impact here? How many people do you think read this board anyway?
