See... I feel kind of mixed on this issue of 'gay politicians voting anti-gay'. First of all, any gay politician that chooses to vote anti-gay is doing it to protect their career. Putting your career above your personal beliefs and the rights of others is extremely selfish; however, I'm trying to put myself in the place of these closet-gay politicians because as a closet gay myself... I would never want to be forced out of the closet because right now I'm not ready to come out. At the same time, are these politicians in the closet to protect their careers or because they're not emotionally ready to come out... And, I wanna know what gay politicians don't have the gull to support their own people. I'm just mixed.

Allthatjazz22, you are just a teenager. You need to look at the big picture here. These are grown men/adults who have chosen to go into politics.BIG DIFFERENCE.I do not in any way shape or form support outing gay people. However, if they are gay and closeted and enforcing anti gay laws, they need to be exposed. It's nothing more than hypocrisy. If you are a closeted gay man opposed to gay rights, than I would not suggest you go into politics. If you are outed and taking away rights for gay people when you are in fact gay, I feel no sympathy at all. These people are scum bags. Larry Craig is a perfect example of this. He still refuses to admit he is gay. I suggest you read up on Roy Cohn.

These closeted gays are looking out for themselves and NO ONE ELSE! I will not support someone who goes into public service and then looks out for them self only.

Posted: 5/24/09 at 2:34pm^ I definitely agree with you and I said all of that in my post, I'm just against de-closeting people... but you're right, I do have a bias.

Posted: 5/24/09 at 2:47pmI am not for outing anyone but we're fighting for our lives and our civil rights now and these people are keeping us from our right to be happy and to lead lives without fear of what will happen if I get sick, if I fall in love with someone who's not a citizen (a VERY REAL and heartbreaking problem for myself and so many others) if one of a million things happens to me? These people are so scared of who they are that they're ruining my life and the lives of millions of others. I fully support this film and think that these hypocrites lives being "ruined" to spare the lives and civil rights of millions today and countless millions in the years to come is completely worth it.

Absolutely right on. Think of the millions of innocent people who lives are ruined by the policies. Number one on my mind--the brave, stunning men and women whose lives are ruined by the ban on gays in the military.
I have no pity for the politicians and officials who have hurt these people for their own selfishness and cowardice.

I am very torn on how I feel about this issue as well. I'm completely out an proud, and very active in gay rights, but I'm staunch against outing anyone for any reason. I will see the film, and make myself more informed on the issue.
I did like what the man said about tyranny.

Posted: 5/24/09 at 8:13pmAll of them were surprisingly harsh on the filmmakers (you can tell none of them has seen the film). I loved how Hasselblech went on about how gay politicians "might be doing what's best for the country" by voting anti-gay, yet she never explained how. She is such a mindless bitch.

Posted: 5/24/09 at 10:40pmThis is a tough time for the country, for the world. If someone is using his/her power to hurt people then out them. Out all of them from Karl Rove to Matt Drudge to Greta van Susteren, etc.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 8:18pmI'm not usually a fan of outing people, but I'm not torn on this issue. What they're doing is disgusting and have therefor forfeit their right to come out on their own terms.

I don't really like the idea of outing anyone,(though I do think everyone is gay and enjoy speculating about it) but the more visibility we have, the better chances we have of being seen as everyone else. Besides celebrities, politicians are the most visible.
In theory, I don't think a politician's sexuality should be an issue in one way or another. Unless their voting is in direct opposition to the majority of the people in his or her district, then it should not matter. They are elected to represent the people of a certain area. It doesn't matter if they are for or against something. It should be the "will of the people." Now, I am not stupid. I know that isn't what happens and they usually represent lobbyists and and their own best interests.
I guess this was a long post to say that I am just not sure how I feel about the issue.
