Only thing I can think of is that someone was offended that I called those states "bigot".
Truth hurts I guess.

McCaskill wins!
Tester looks like he will. So, it's up to Virginia. "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus????"

NYTimes.com gives Webb a lead of nearly 6000, with 99.8% of precincts reporting. I think he has it!

Party on - I'm certainly glad for some future gridlock. American politicians of both stripes have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're power-hungry vampires. The trajectory of our head-long push into world affairs needs to have the brakes put on - and this is the only solution.
Meanwhile, the thing that I care passionately about - gay rights - gets trounced. We're obviously not ready to accept that which is real, as we continue to be guided by mythological nonsense.
Party it up, those who think you've won some sort of contest. And mourn, those who think that the devil has had his say.
I'm going to go about my business, living my life the best I can in SPITE of what I'm dealt, and hope I'm dead before all of this comes crashing down upon your fearful, ignorant heads.

Well, the good news is that Arizona looks to be the lone state NOT to pass a ban in this election. That gives me hope.
I think at this point, it doesn't matter that much whether there are 10 states or 30 states that passed bans. I believe the advances in other states will bring the reality we all know to the forefront. The battle will eventually end up in a Supreme Court or a future Congress--because I believe it IS a federal issue and I believe in one swipe, all of these DOMAs and state constitutional amendments will be destroyed. We just have to keep moving forward--even the tiny steps of Vermont or NJ.

That's certainly the progressive thought, Jerby, and I applaud you for it. But GOD DAMN IT, I'm TIRED of having to deal with this crap. MY life is NOT on hold while the rest of the world tries to decide whether it's worth living by their standards.
All I know is I hope and pray that this outcome puts the brakes on what I consider to be a hugely detrimental push by our country. Who knows how long it might take to heal the wounds that have been created.
Just put the brakes on things, that's all I'm hoping for. Well, that and for these religious freaks to go back to their churches and leave the rest of humanity alone!

geez DG, what a way to bring us down.
If you truly believe that we will be no better off with the Dems in power,(which is what I am reading in your post; if this is incorrect I apologize)then why push people to vote, as your avatar pleads?
I was disappointed in some aspects of this election (specifically that my state of CA voted in Arnold AGAIN), but I see hope for a change in war policy at the very least.

Justme - if one post from one lonely person brings you down, then you weren't UP to begin with.
I've stated pretty clearly that I hope the Dem win of the House (at least) can bring us some gridlock, and that the downhill slide we've been on can be slowed.
But I'll be DAMNED, as a middle-aged gay TAX PAYER, if I'm going to stand and wave a flag while I have my existence further questioned by anyone in this country!

Well, the great thing is that we won't be seeing any Amendments to ban gay marriage for at least 2 years. We won't have any extremely conservative (maybe even conservative) Supreme Court Justices getting in.
We may see true Election Reform. We will surely see investigations into the last 6 years and justice coming to fruition. We are going to see change--and I pray change for the better. The Dems HAVE to--else they deserve to crumble if they merely repeat the crap we've been enduring. They better show they are better and they better not let hubris reign.
Judging from some of the interviews of Democratic winners, I get the feeling the Dems may actually show how it's done (working together to get things done).

Jerby - that's a noble thought - and I wouldn't want to take ANYTHING away from that emotion - but this dance has been going on a LONG time, and these are still the same dancers.
Maybe it all just boils down to me being born in Missouri.
SHOW ME!
At least there hasn't been a validation of all that's gone on so far. I'm afraid THAT would completely send be to the top of the post office!

Good grief, I'm only pointing out what a downer your post was. Nothing against your politics or anything else for that matter.
You think you are the only one pissed off by the votes against Gay marriage? I'm just as pissed as you, it effects me as well, and I'm also pissed off by a couple of CA measures that effect my ability to maintain a decent state of living in the Bay area as well.
But I am trying to balance that out with the elation I feel at the abortion ban measure failing, and the Prop 85 (parental consent) measure failing as well. The Dems in power in the White House and hopefully the Senate.

Some people often wonder if the President was female would things be different? Better?
I think the same question applies to our likely first female Speaker of the House. Perhaps?
Does anyone know if this will be the largest number of female Senators? It may be--and in the same vein as above, maybe that will prove to be a great thing.
Maybe I'm just a lil giddy.

Well, justme, the thread is called 'election results', and I was giving my response to them. If you want to have a little rally around your hopefulness, go start an appropriately titled thread.
In the meantime, get OFF MY ASS about what I have to say here - it's the point of the thread!

Oh, I'm pretty angry - but that's just from my middle-aged gay point of view. As far as my perspective as a member of this society as a whole, I'm thrilled that we at least get some parity in place. One party rule shouldn't be desired by anyone.

"Voters in seven U.S. states rejected gay wedlock by limiting marriage to unions between a man and a woman in one of the few bright spots for conservative Republicans in otherwise disappointing elections on Tuesday." - Reuters
THIS is the reason that, although I can truly feel happy about the demise of the one party rule we've been under, I can't just kick up my heels and do a victory dance.
Justme, please tell me you at least have a clue where I'm coming from.

Of course I do. I'm with you all the way on this. I am just as angry as you are about the results around passing measures trying to control our personal lives.
I just thought referring to the posters in this thread as fearful and ignorant was a bit harsh, and tried to point out the other side of the coin, which was only that there was some good out of the election tonight.
I am certainly not one to have a rally of hopefulness; hell no!
I just stopped posting because I saw you getting angrier with me and I didn't understand why, as I still feel we are on the same side of this election and it's results.
